Scary Grandmother's Halloween Spooktacular

8:00 PM

A young girl experiences trick-or-treating and her cousin's pranks. From Mainframe, the makers of Reboot, a full-length feature film about Halloween, and stuff...

Not Mainframe's best, but still enjoyable none-the-less.

At first the style kind of bothered me. All of the 'Big Kid' character models had small dots for eyes...while Hana had HUGE more human eyes, and for some reason it just stuck out to me. On the flip side, I grew used to it and rather enjoyed the style of all the characters by the time the movie had ended.

I loved the Scary Godmother character, very outgoing and likeable, and the Vampires and Bugaboo were rather amusing as well. The werewolf was kind of...annoying, but that was probably the intent. I atleast enjoyed when he kept rambling during his 'death scene'. :p

Since the book is intended for younger children, I'd already assumed the movive would be as well...so no big surprises there.

The Skeleton....uh....um.....well...he was just kind of there.

Animation wise, the blend of Mainframe's inhouse 'celshading' software in combination with drawn flat backgrounds and 3D character was unique. From the numerous things I've read about the series while it was in production, their intent was to make the movie seem like it was directly from the books which it was based on. Looked rather neat, it all pulled together better in spome parts then others.

Anyone notice the kid with the Mike the TV costume in the beginning? That along with Gavin Blair's name in the end is enough to make a ReBoot fan weep. :(

Mediocre, very cliche, but it was for kids. Small kids. Still had its moments, but the style of the books just wasn't cut out for 3-d. The climax was cute, with the rest of it just being random plotless animation.

The skeleton was the best character.

I liked...the dad vampire's design. If that counts for anything. But seriously. this was shot at like the 1 and under demographic. This thing was literally shot in only two places, resulting in the cheapest Canadian CGI animation ever. their budget I'm guessing was 10 bucks and a half eaten pack of Skittles.

I thought the technical side of the animation was on par with Reboot. It was smooth, expressive, and pretty well done. Mainframe is consistent with quality.

As for the story, I don't know if it was too terrible. I can't say I've seen the plot done before, and that's already above average, considering its a holiday special.

For me, I was much more interested in the voice acting, which seemed to be the strongest in this film. For a while I was in another room on the computer and just listened to the movie. Great work in expressions and feel for the film.

This movie-like-thing made me go "...WTF?" It was almost as bad as every episode of Mucha Lucha.

Hana was revoltingly cute.

Making monsters look cute and innocent really pissed me off.
