Roy E. Disney was interviewed in a London newspaper and he stated some excellent things...
It turns out that the censored DVD's of Fantasia, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, and Saludas Amigos were NOT authorized by Mr. Disney. It turns out that he wouldn't have let the censored versions be released and he's currently having meetings to fix the censored movies for DVD and VHS.
Here's the article segment pertaining to the cuts:
"One group of Disney films (including Saludos Amigos, Melody Time and Make Mine Music) has recently been cut on video for perceived political correctness, something Roy (Disney)is concerned about. "I was really angry" he said. "Nobody asked me, and I wouldn't have let them do that. We're having meetings now to fix the problem, because this is history. One suggestion is that we release films in two versions - if you want your kids to see Pecos Bill without a cigarette in his hands (give me a break!), you can have it both ways."
I hope that whoever is responsible for this deception gets fired
Thank goodness, I've now regained some respect for Roy Disney, and I'm happier than ever that I didn't buy any of those censored versions. maybe I'll be lucky and they'll re-release that three volume Fantasia set, I'd love to see the uncut Fantasia and the Clair de Lune segment.

Well, THAT's a step in the right direction. I wonder if that internet petition a while ago had something to do with it? I'm glad there's at least one company with their heads screwed on straight...

Good! I'm sure many of us would like to stop boycotting this stuff. I hope they follow through on this. It is good to hear that Roy is aware of this problem.

Hmmm...could be!
Both petitions (one for the other censored versions, and mine for Fantasia) were sent to Roy E. Disney.
Good thing, too. My petition was lost in my old computer.

I couldn't applaud anymore for Roy E. Disney, here's a man that want's to see Walt Disney's legacy in animation left INTACT.....
I have to give the thumbs up to this man for what he believes in saving the animated cartoon that they should be seen the way they were meant to be seen uncut & uncensored.
This could open the gates for other cartoon to see the light of day.Maybe, just Maybe could we see in the future such Disney classics as:SONG OF THE SOUTH, EDUCATION FOR DEATH, CANNIBAL CAPERS, VICTORY THROUGH AIR POWER, and of course the number one sought after Disney cartoon of all time.
"DER FUEHRER'S FACE" ??? Who knows. just who knows..
And a special no thanks to that moronic idiot Disney chairman, MICHAEL EISNER

You'll note that Disney himself did not mention "Fantasia" in the quoted portion of the article. Since he appears to have been the driving force behind the latest DVD version which, while restoring it to its roadshow length, maintained (albeit in a modified form) the excision of the black stereotype character and indeed acknowledged the alteration in the supplementary material, he was undoubtedly aware of it. Since that segment was not even presented unaltered in the supplements, nor was any still or preproduction art, I doubt we'll be seeing the original "original" "Fantasia" any time soon.
That being said, I join in the general approbation and hope that his desires come to fruition.

I recently e-mailed Disney's video division and asked them about "Song of the South." Although they said there was no release date planned for it, they didn't seem like the possibility is out of the question.
Has any letter-writing campaign or online petition ever been launched for this?

I'll stick with Paul- although I'd like to believe that what Mr. Disney states is truth, I'd never count on anything until I see proof of it, especially in light of their recent releases- but just the fact that Roy is bringing attention to this means something will show up out of it.... and at this point, almost anything would be an improvement ;) ....
This brings up an interesting afterthought, however- should Disney renege on this promise, and re-release material with continued editing, it would prevent a great many people from ever trusting content from Disney again......
