I'm thinking about buying a used copy of Morrowind from blockbuster for $15. Only problem is it's not the GOTY version. Should I hold off on buying it? Is the GOTY version a lot better?

I was at EB the other day and all their copies of GOTY edition were $20.
So...yeah, just get that. The amount of extra content would be worth the $5. Granted, with Morrowind, there's a good chance you'll never even see any of that content if you wait until after you beat the regular game's main quest, since that alone is so ridiculously long.
But definitely get some form of the game. It's really quite amazing, as far as I'm concerned.

It's a great game. Hell, even try wandering around the world pointlessly, you can find some interesting things...

Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time. Obviously, I would reccomend it, but it's really not for everyone. The combat is something you probably won't like unless you're used to computer RPGs. Some find it too slow, or too boring. But if the idea of a huge game world that lets you do almost whatever you want sounds at all appealing to you, pick this game up.
The GOTY edition adds a good amount. The GOTY edition is the combination of the two PC expansion packs. One adds a pretty large, snowy island that's home to one of the game's races. It has a decent amount of new creatures, weapons, characters and quests (it also introduces werewolves to the game). The other exapansion pack adds the game world's capital city, with lots of rich nobles and elite warriors. This also adds quests, weapons and characters, but you have to be pretty high level to do some of the quests there.

It sounds like the expansion packs would be worth the extra $10. Besides new game content, is anything fixed or improved upon in the GOTY edition as far as any weaknesses or anything?

I'm not sure about the Xbox version, but the PC version made some changes that I assume are on the Xbox version too. The biggest change is that stamina plays a much, much smaller role in the GOTY edition. In Morrowind, anytime you run or jump, your stamina would go down. In the original version, if your stamina reached zero, you couldn't run or jump, and you would fight very poorly. Now, in the GOTY edition, you can still run and jump when your stamina reaches zero.
This may not sound like much, but originally, you had to sprint awhile, then walk awhile, then sprint awhile, etc. to get around until your level was really high. This change makes travelling much less of a chore, which is nice, since you'll spend a lot of time exploring. This change takes away some of the strategy of saving stamina to fight or run away, but overall it's a very welcome addition.
I think the other changes were minor things like graphical glitches and the like. The stamina thing is the only major change I can think of.

If we're talking about Xbox, the original version had some nasty bugs some players experienced, things many reported would cause a lot of disk read errors later in the game. I'd hope at least some of those were fixed in the GOTY edition, so I'd get that one.

But thanks for the input everyone. I wanted to get the GOTY edition but things didn't quite work out. They had it at EB games, but I had 7 games I wanted to trade in and they'd only give me $28 for them. Not bad, I guess, but I was hoping for more. So I went to blockbuster. They took 6 of them (wouldn't take NFL 2k2) and gave me $54 in store credit. I used that plus $3 to pre-order Halo 2 ($30 since I'd traded in more than 3 games) and picked up used copies of Morrowind and GTA3. So I'm happy.

GOTY version is a ton better. Like about three times as much to do.
