The Xbox is out, the Gamecube is coming, and the PS2 is releasing Metal Gear Solid 2 to fight back against the newbies. Big battle, right? Well, it just got a lot more interesting.
Nintendo has a secret launch title... they somehow managed to keep it a complete secret from all the retailers, but all the gaming magazines have had this game for about a month. Now, they've hinted at the secret title before, but I figured it wouldn't be any big deal. Boy, was I wrong... I was floored when I found out. I got this picture from ign.com, and they don't lie. It exists, they have it, and it'll be out this year. The name of the title? Check out this link and look for yourself:

Hmmm. Well, this certainly adds an interesting twist to the console wars!! Unfortunately, its not enough of an incentive to get me to buy the GameCube yet, seeing as I've been playing MGS2 for the the past 5 hours on my PS2. But at least it shows more promise of Nintendo moving toward a more adult oriented audience with some of their releases.

holy poop.
I didn't think that was POSSIBLE!
I probably won't be buying it (not a MGS fan) but it's still sweet that it is coming out on GCN..

Probably THE best game to come out for the PS2 this holiday season... it's a highly cinematic espionage sneaker. It was supposed to be their ace in the hole against the Xbox and Gamecube.
But this move... damn, that's a coup and a half for Nintendo. How they managed to keep this under wraps for so long is beyond me. This really could change the face of the console wars, since often, first impressions are everything.
Again, I'm speechless... if it's available launch day, I'll pick it up in a heartbeat!

Why does the supposed GameCube disc have the DVD logo on it...?

It actually says "DVD-ROM"..which means you can probably put it in your PC and get cool wallpaper and stuff off of it (IE: You could do that with Dreamcast discs)

The Gamecube disks ARE DVDs, just smaller.

GameCube discs may share similar technology but they are not DVDs, this would require Nintendo to pay a licensing fee to the DVD people.

Super Monkey Ball doesn't have the DVD logo. Also notice the logos at the bottom are different, the one on the MGS disc is exactly the same design as PS2s.
The only possible explanation is Bird Boy's, about the wallpaper stuff. The reason is says DVD-ROM though is because its not video or audio, even PS2 games say DVD-ROM though.
I'm just saying I'll believe it when I see it, I wouldn't be surprised to see MGS2 for GameCube..but at launch? By the way, where is this article on IGN?

The picture was printed with a batch of pictures commemorating the release of the PS2 Metal Gear Solid.
You know, I'm starting to think this is a hoax myself... I was informed of this by a drooling fan-boy games counter worker who filled in a LOT of details that he swore he knew but I can't find anywhere else. And since I was at work (technically) at the time, I didn't have time to do the research. (yeah yeah, excuses excuses. :p )
The reason I took it as fact was because, if it WAS a hoax, it would get IGN into muchas trouble with Konami. Large companies don't take kindly to hoaxes with their products, and they would stop giving them review copies on time. I figured, they wouldn't do something THAT stupid, would they?
But I checked my copy of Rogue Leader, and it doesn't have the DVD logo either. Maybe they really are that stupid... I thought IGN was one of the few sites with scruples. Damn.

Yeah but IGN doesn't have an article up this or anything...Not in their GC, PS2, or even Insider section so I really wouldn't blame them as much as some idiot who posted it to their server (maybe a stupid writer or intern) who thought it'd be funny to make it look official.
Also, about the DVD...if you look above the DVD logo and the ratings there a black box with a circle, I think thats the Nintendo seal which is supposed to be an oval...and it doesn't really matter anyways though, because thats the same exact spot the PSX logo is supposed to go...and everything else is layed out exactly like a PS2 disc also.
I have heard something else about the GC being in the manual or something? That may just be rumors. I'm kinda pitiful in that I haven't picked up the hottest game of the year yet, I decided to use my cyber loot to get 007 & Tricky instead :p

Or maybe they were hacked and haven't realized it yet.

That would definitely be just a rumor - I've got the game, and the manual in front of me. There's nothing about the GC in it.

Okay, the PS2 q&a page hinted to the fact that they put it up there... the headline was "man, are you people gullible" or something to that effect.
I detest hoaxes... even the ones I don't fall for.

Nah, big news like that you get excited about.
I have a PS2 already so not having MGS2 for the Cube doesn't bother me, I'll probably pick it up for or after Christmas anyways (Especially since I heard Halo is coming out for PC).
