That would be interesting to see. Besides, wouldn't this be the first time that Sony is starting it's own cable network in North America?

It would be indeed. That means we could have 3 dedicated anime channels in America. That's something else... I think ADV has started an epidemic.
Well we know Astroboy and Cyborg 009 will be on it but we can only guess what else it might air. The Asian one airs Gundam, Inuyasha, FMA, Kenshin, DBZ, Shaman King, GitS: SAC, and stuff. It probably wouldn't air those here.

Probably only one anime channel, since the other two would probably be dedicated to live-action and the other maybe a movie network(since Sony bought MGM).

Well, we don't know about the FUNi channel yet, and the Anime Network's linear format is only seen by 12 people in the country, so it'll be a while.

I'd die happily if Animax came to NA. Except...assuming that the channel does indeed arrive over here, they're going to have to buy the tv rights since (I think) the individual anime companies own them (?)
TAN on the other hand, isnt even on anyone's channel except for like 2 people. As for Funi's anime channel, I doubt that will happen, especially when (and assuming) that Animax channel arrives here, it just doesn't make sense to invest on a new channel when you can make more money selling to CN, TAN and Animax (again, assuming that it arrives here). Well I'm on a roll, Viz is also researching the possibility of starting an anime channel, well, same as Funi.

Cool that we are now getting Animax. It will probably be like the the Anime Network: Video On Demand at first, then become a digital cable/satellite channel later on.

It sounds interesting and it could make for more competition for Cartoon Network. I would hope they wouldn't go the all anime route since Sony has the rights to a lot of non-anime stuff also, including a good chunk of classic information. (Not that I ever saw the appeal of an "all anime" network anyway. Folks would riot if Cartoon Network decided to declare themselves and "all American cartoons" network, yet somehow an all anime network is ok.)

Well it is an all anime channel is Asia.
I wouldn't be apposed to them airing some classics as well. They sure ain't gonna air on CN (or even Boomerang).

Well it is an all anime channel is Asia.
Which would mean that (if becomes available here) they'd have to buy the tv rights to the titles that they sold the tv rights to...right? <---not sure

That's a good question. All we can really be sure of is Astroboy and Cyborg 009 unless CN and Turner have an iron clad contract for those titles.
I digress my previous statement (past post). Animax in Asia is almost all anime. There apparently is some none anime programing.
Sony has a lot of resources, they could make this be an excellent combonation of high quality animation from Japan, America, and well anywhere.

I wonder if (the channel does indeed come here) they'd show their own version of Rurouni Kenshin, the one that we have heard so many bad things about... (refering to Samurai X, not the ova's, but Sony's dub, for people that don't know)

That would be great! Though I'm not an anime fan, I don't get Animax in the area I live, so it would be great to see it in the States. Plus this will mean new anime that has yet to air on U.S. television.
