I'm very surprised no one has mentioned this show around here, so I'll start a talkback. I won't give too many spoilers in this first post, but I thought the show was pretty standard fare for a Jetix show, and it wasn't spectacular, but not bad either. The theme song sounds a little bit similar to the Teen Titans theme song though, although I did only hear that once. This episode will be repeating tomorrow at 9:00 am ET/PT on ABC Family, then this episode will be repeating Monday to Thursday on Toon Disney at 8:00 pm ET/PT, then again on Saturday at 8:00 pm ET/PT, so you should get at least one more chance to see the episode if you only get ABC Family.

It was decent -- no better or worse than Daigunder, for example. But most of the "decent" stuff seems to not make it through an entire run.
I thought it would be better, since "Jetix Animation" was at the helm and it's a hands-on effort, not just an Americanization of a Japanese anime.
Call me old-school, but I was also expecting more of the "this is how it all started" episode, more than what you get in the opening.
Also, notice how they have no time to mention the full show name in the "stay tuned" and "now back to" bumpers?

Just looked at the voice actors in my EPG, they include Mark Hamill, Wil Wheaton, and Corey Feldman.
I'll have to check it out tommorow because the remnants of Ivan caused my Sattelite to go out for that half hour, luckily I was able to get DinoThunder and G-Revolution in without interruption.

Noticed there wasn`t a talkback for this awesome show.
This was fantastic! A true cartoon specticle! I was really entertained, it reminded me of PPG in the mid 90`s or Dexter back then. It was well paced with just enough plot thrown in what well done action. Nova is now one of my favorite cartoon heroines. Mark Hamil really was sinister as the Skull King.
I look forward too seeing more episodes. Oh and everyone should take note this is the first of Jetix`s original animations airing on US television.
I know SRMTHG is a long name. but theres a reason for this:
Super Robot is what they pilot
The Monkey Team make up the core four
Hyper Force seems to be something only Chiro controls. So you have Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!

I enjoyed it. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Chiro's VA the same as Beast Boy? Interesting to have Beast Boy and Terra's VA's in a romance again.

Ninjajack, your post has been moved here, because SRMTHFG! is a Disney/Jetix Europe co-production, therefore, it qualifies under Disney Animation. The same goes for W.I.T.C.H. when it debuts around the same time as PR: S.P.D., but I'm sure that show will be checked out by many curious Winx Club fans from General Animation.

For the show itself...not bad. The animation is a bit stilted, but I honestly think that this time it's intentional. It looks like they're trying to emulate the style of early anime shows like Astro Boy and the like. limited animation and all. It's not QUITE a parody, but almost.

Wait a sec, you mean "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!" Is the Actual NAME of the show? And since it's airing, it's a fairly recent show, too. My question here is, why did they choose such a title, when sevral shows have poked fun at this type of thing over the years. The Brak Show, The Simpsons, Power Puff Girls, have all toyed with the "Go action team power move ultra team go force mege go!!!" silliness. I actually thought the title was a joke until I read the thread, because of this.

I sorta liked it. The plot went all over the place, though.

Yeah, it seems like all new toon shows start like that nowadays. The TV execs want to get straight to the action.

Yes, I thought Daigunder was decent. But "decent" rarely makes it to the end of its run on ABCFam/Jetix -- see Shinzo, Medabots and Gargoyles.
Oh, and Daigunder was never on Fox Kids. (In the US)

Well, I watched it. It was decent, the voice acting and the animation were great, but it felt like they skipped an episode. What about the BEGINNING? The least they could do is make a pilot episode that starts the whole thing.
Still, it wasn't bad, and the theme song is catchy. The bit with the robot girl surprised me, and the ending was sweet. I thought it was a nice touch that no one could understand the monkeys but Chiro.
Still, they replaced Gargoyles for this?

They don't need a full hour of both. The Digimon at 9:30 is only there until Dragon Booster premieres on 10/23. That I can understand, since it's only for a month. What puzzles me is the retention of the full Spidey hour. The buzz for the second movie is long gone.
I would have done this:
9:30 -- Digimon
10:00 -- Digimon
10:30 -- Spidey
11:00 -- X-Men
11:30 -- Gargoyles
until 10/23. Then add Booster and do what they want.

Yeah, we don't need full-hours of all those shows. Why not air all those shows ONCE, and bring in more shows? Do we really need two airings of a show in a row? Someone at Jetix seriously needs to revise this schedule...
Ooookay, this is straying off-topic, so... Back to Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! Did I get the name right? [checks] Wee! I FINALLY got it right!

For all of those who don't know this, they actually did skip an episode. Chiro's Girl is actually episode 2 of this series, and episode 1 is actually airing this weekend. The VA's were great, and I thought it was interesting that they had a lot of WB VA's, but they really should have had an origin episode.
P.S. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! actually isn't an Anime. It is a Jetix made property being co-created by Disney, much like Dragon Boosters next month. Alot of US made cartoons are going to Anime style artistry.

I knew it! It was so obvious! So, I guess Jetix is in the habit of skipping episodes for all their shows, huh? Damn, they really should fire whoever schedules these things!
So, I take it episode one isn't the origin episode?

Yes, I'm sure. They changed the episode numbers on that schedule so nobody wuld question why they were airing the episodes out of order, but if you go to the Disney Jetix schedule, or if you look at the Toon Zone schedules, they both list Chiro's Girl as episode 1002, because it was the second episode made in the series.

It's too soon to tell but I think I'm going to like it. The designs look a little animeish mixed in with Harvey Toons and other cute shows, either there was little CGI or they knew how to make it blend in and it has potential. Too soon really to tell but it might be good.

What they did was change the airing order of the episodes. The original schedule showed "Depths of Fear SUP-1002" airing on September 18 and 19 and "Chiro's Girl SUP-1001" airing on September 25 and 26. This did not make sense, as they would be airing episode two before episode one. They corrected the schedule and switched the airdates, but never changed the episode numbers. "Chiro's Girl" has always been episode one, and "Depths of Fear" has always been episode two. They just mixed up the order in which they would air.
As far as our schedule is concerned, I don't know where you are looking. If you're looking at my weekly schedule posts, I don't list the episode numbers. If you're looking at our schedules page, we have it the correct way: "Chiro's Girl" is 101, and "Depths of Fear" is 102.

I expected it to be really bad, and it turned out average I guess. I don't know, a Power Rangers parody with robot monkies? "Chiro's Girl" turned out rather okay given that it's something of a brainless concept.

It's not US made at all. The entire show is boarded, laid out, directed, and animated in Japan, and merely written in the US. Akin to Big O II. This is why the show has anime-style limited animation/timing.. because it's done no differently than any other anime, except that it then gets sent to Disney instead of to, say, TV Tokyo. Supposedly the studio that animates SRMTHFG is the same studio that animated Akira.

[otaku nitpick]Big O 2 was written in Japan by Chiaki J. Konaka.[/otaku nitpick]
However, it's interesting that Disney is straight up funding a series made in Japan. I wonder if that will lead to them phasing out their TV animation division as well, and just doing everything but script in Japan, Korea and India. It'd seem like a very "Disney" move at this point.
Also, Akira was worked on by a number of studios in Japan, so just on a random pick basis, you'd be likely to get a studio that worked on Akira in some aspect.

Yeah, that is interesting. I thought the inside joke with Greg Cipes and Ashley Johnson was funny. The only problems I see with this episode are that there isn't enough action and the monkeys don't get enough airtime.

You're right. This could've been a season story arc, but they decided to cram it into one episode, and by the time you discover JinMei's secret, you still aren't used to her. Anyway, still a good episode nonetheless.
Also, how was this morning's episode? I missed it.

If they developed a story arc out of Jinmei, it'd be the Judas Contract all over again! :D

Is there even a talkback for the 2nd ep?
So, it only took 1 ep for people to give up on the talkbacks? Is that some sort of record? :D
