I'm pretty sure the GT stands for Grand Tour. I haven't seen the series, but supposedly it's not as good as the other two. Toriyama wasn't involved in it all.

As for Z, I'm not sure. They call Goku and his buddies the Z fighters, but that all I know.

Z=Zen.

GT=Grand Tour.
There ya go.

I don't think there's any *official* words standing in for Z or GT, but "Grand Tour" is a common one for the latter. But so is "Galaxy Tour"... Perhaps the vegetable-naming scheme of Saijins could justify "Green Tour" or "Trek" or "Travels"...And if we take Trunks' marriage into consideration...:D

I don't think the Z has a meaning.

--the Z indicated the Greek letter zeta...sounds big and fancy, but that doesn't really resemble the English z, does it? And the last letter in the Grecian alphabet is omega...so I suppose going with that, the final chapter would be called Dragonball O . As for GT, maybe it's something in Japanese that doesn't translate well to English...which, come to think of it, may go for the Z too. So in short...[shrugs].

.....I like DBZ on my TV. :D

lol! Ow, my head hurts... I always thought the letters, for whatever they stand for, meant different sagas or time lines in Goku's story. It works for me. Short, simple, sticks with you, AND doesn't hurt my head. :)

Ya know I downloaded this movie biography of some sort about Goku's great great great grandson, also named Goku? It was pretty cool, although it felt weird watching a time line in which my strongest anime hero has been long dead. It was interesting though.

Z = the letter Z
GT = Goku's travels.

;)

I think your right. GT has a meaning(Grand Tour is the most common acception of its translation) but I don't think the Z in DBZ has a meaning. But If your telling a newbie to the show what it means say it means Zoinks(got it from a humor section of a dbz fansite). ;)

Z=Typical Japanese weirdness. :) I wouldn't read into it.

Funny I'm pretty sure I heard that it stood for Zen, maybe I'm wrong though.

I'm quite sure the Z stands for zeta. As a matter of fact I remember very old Japanese video games that distinctly said "Dragon Ball Zeta"...

Toei Animation put it on the title to differentiate it from Dragon Ball.

In Akira Toriyama's original comics, Dragon Ball lasted from the first meeting of Goku and Bulma to the finale of DBZ. DBGT was a total shift in the program as Toriyama had nothing to do with its production, and quite frankly, it was used to sell more toys. Most fans (myself) don't consider it part of the true story, and most new fans see Dragon Ball GT as "ooh, more Super Saiyan goodness." And I gave major kudos to FUNimation for giving us Dragon Ball before DBGT.

And for keeping the japanese version's music.:)
