Scroll over to the Comments page of Jerry's site: http://www.cartoonresearch.com/comments.htm

I hope all of you who wanted it got "Cat-Tails for Two" on tape the last time CN showed it. If comments made at our little forum can get cartoons banned or edited, then certainly those made at a site like Jerry's (which has been plugged in major media outlets) can. The first letter, containing those tongue-in-cheek comments about "Cat-Tails for Two," pushed the envelope enough as it is. The second letter (added today), which isn't tongue-in-cheek at all, is even worse, pointing out a stereotype in Speedy that I highly doubt was in the Warner toonsmiths' minds when they created the character. (Just goes to show that if people want to be offended by something, they will be.)

Our efforts to get Speedy back on the air seem like they've taken a giant step back. And, really, nothing has been gained at all. I'm disappointed those two letters wound up prominently displayed at Jerry's site. Usually he shows more judgment than this.....

Guys, the article is going off the scale on my sarcasm-meter. Read it again with that in mind.

Well, I wouldn't call him a fool, necessarily, but I'd call the people who might get the wrong idea fools, and that's what bothers me. That letter is sarcastic, but some CN censor won't get it. So what if Speedy is a stereotype anyway? He's a hero, and according to an article I saw on the internet a while back, most hispanics don't hate him, they kind of like the positive image. I think the first letter on that page is funny, and gets people thinking if they know what they're reading, but the second letter does not help at all. It's that kind of person who needs to be hypnotized by Slowpoke Rodriguez into jumping off a cliff. It's called "looking for things that aren't there."

Its' one thing to not show things like "scrub me up momma with a boogadie beat"(lantz) on the air anymore-and claim it's racist(cause it is)

It's another to ban a little mexican mouse for being what he is-mexican. I can't see how 99.9999% of his cartoons could ever be offensive to anyone

I agree with you, Mike. While the first set of comments was obviously a joke, the new comments posted on Jerry's site could very well be the final nail in Speedy's coffin. For the past few months, "Cat-Tails For Two" was the only Speedy cartoon in the (somewhat) regular rotation on CN, now I doubt we'll even see that one again. :(
