View Full Version : Weirdest/Funniest thing you've seen on a rip-off console
The other day I stumbled across a console that called itself "Funstation" (obvious Playstation rip-off) that worked on cartridges. The box featured a very badly drawn Mario riding the flying carpet with Aladdin and Jasmine (Disney version). I swear that you have to see it yourself to notice how hilarious it looked.
But I presume you guys have seen worse, like to share?

Every time I see a N64 contorller pluged into a television, showing a demo-reel of Super Mario Bros. I see a Toei exauative stab another loyal watcher of thier shows in the back.

Proably before the-vast-majority-of-people-who-post-here's-time, but this is arguably the most famous case of making illegal carts for Nintendo:

There are Mexican guys selling "74,000 IN ONE!" gaming "consoles" at this booth in my local mall, and they've been doing it for a while now. It's a popular mall, so I can't see why they haven't been busted yet. They're essentially selling N64 controllers with ROM chips inside, with the stick broken off.
And yes, they show Super Mario Bros. as one of their demos, as well as Contra and Duck Hunt (and a weird 8-bit DDR game they must have made themselves somehow).

I remember seeing the "Game Axe Color" at my local bootleg/import store. It's a portable NES but for some reason it had a screenshot of Tomba on the cover. You'd think they'd at least be able to pick a game from the right console.

I have seen that N64 controller thing too at my mall. The strange thing is that the box art has Star Wars Episode art on it.

They have them at a mall near me too. I also seen a 74,000 in one called "polystation" that was a PSX gutted, should be a crime to turn a PSX into such crap.

I remember that, I actually rented it back in the day (I was like 9 years old, like I knew better at the time). Anyway, we have those N64 controllers that play 100+ games at a kiosk at my mall also. They've been there since at least early summer and I cringe every time I walk buy. I just can't figure out how they haven't been shut down yet. You'd think at the very least the EB Games at the mall would be trying to do something.

You should call Nintendo.
I saw one of those 100+ "N64" games. the funniest thing I saw on it was pretty much Supermario Bros, but the mario sprite was replaced with a non animated (and lifted from the title screen of Pokemon Yellow) Pikachu

I've thought about it and I just might. If people are going to make money off old games I'd much rather it be people selling or trading their own old games, not some guys who are ripping off the work of others to make a quick buck.
Another thing I remember seeing: A game called "Super Mario 14", which was basically Adventure Island 2 for the NES, with the Higgins sprite replaced by a Mario one.
I've seen those N64 controllers with 10,000+ NES ROMs at my mall too... someone really should call Nintendo about that.

The fun thing about these roms is there are no more than 20 or even 25 at the most. The rest are just made up names repeated over and over.

Yeah, it wasn't all that terrific, but it wasn't a rip-off console like what we're talking about.
