The phrase "rumor is..." usually means not true as far as I'm concerned. Talking about nameless sources doesn't help either.

I hope it's true, and it might be true, but I doubt it.

Rumours prove to be true just as often as they prove to be false.

I really hope this is true, though. I honestly think Futurama deserves a new season more than Family Guy, since it actually has important plot elements still left unexplored.

I doubt this is true.

But if it is Williams Street hand is behind it.

I read that one of the main reasons the show was stopped was because they were just too dam good at making the show, they were so far ahead in production compared with air time that they stopped making it so the airing show could catch up with production. This caused a huge problem for the team because they all had to part their ways and usually when this happens in production, with a team as good as they were, they can never get back together again, (they all take on other projects). If it is true and if the original team are in place then it would be very cool, but as I work in the animation industry, usually when they cancel a show they don't start it up again... but hey I hope they do!!!

You know, I'm really not sure the show needs any more seasons. I'm very curious about the plot elements they haven't introduced yet, but I seem to remember season 4 being the weakest season. It was good enough that I would still watch, but many of the episodes just didn't match the quality of much of the first three seasons.

If, by some miracle of financing, the show came back, I would still watch with excitement and curiosity. But sometimes less is more, and I'm not convinced the semi-early end of Futurama is a bad thing.

It's not exactly a "rumor". It's an uncertain statement by the show's creator.

http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/1-003675-1/

That's an Entertainment Weekly interview. ...with typos, I think.

EW: Any chance of a Family Guy-like resuscitation?

MG: Our Adult Swim rerun rations ("ratings"?) are fantastic, and David X. Cohen and I are throwing around ideas of how to keep it alive. It's a very ambitious and expansive (could be "expensive") show, which has been a sticking point.

EW: Do you have unfinished business?

MG: All science-fiction epics have an underlying theme that things are not what they seem, and we haven't revealed all of the secrets embedded in the show. We even have characters we created at the begining of the series that we haven't gotten around to introducing yet!

Wrong, Shnay...Season 4 was the best; there was so much character development in it. I don't think I want a season 5 though; they ended the mystery of Leela's parents in 4 prematurely because they knew the series would be canned, and with it no longer there, the show wouldn't have as many mysteries planned from the beginning.

How could anyone NOT want more Futurama?

More Futurama is always a good thing... unless it goes on and on and on, like the Simpsons ;)

Here's to hoping they take a hint from Family Guy.

even if it's only speculation.. still it's a true hope for more elzar, more zoidberg, more amy, more bender..
and more of the fry we all know and love.

maybe even morbo will finally see his race invade.. only to see them turned away, and forced as punishment to remain on earth and do the job he hates, being a cohost on a morning chat show.. of darkness!

There were certainly some great ones in there, but episodes like Obsolutely Fabulous and Less Than Hero seemed to indicate to me that they were running a bit low on ideas. I do think s4 is pretty good overall, I just thought it had more weak episodes than past seasons.

They had 72 episodes to introduce any plot elements they wanted to. I don't know how many seasons they were expecting, but the fact that Fox execs never "got" the show, along with the constant scheduling abuse it got, should have given them the hint that maybe they should play their hand sooner rather than later.

With 4 solid seasons completed, and out on DVD, I don't know if returning to the work at this point would be a good idea. They may not be able to assemble all those involved, and more likely than not, the visual style would have to be taken down a notch (anti-bam) in order to deal with money issues. I think it would be best to let it be.

This is false. How many times have articles like this come up, with no results following them?

Matt Groening is simply stuck with Simpsons. There's no chance of a Futurama revival until it's over, and even then it's slim, considering Fox's opinion of it.

Though it's probaly unlikely,I would love to see more Futurama episodes.... I did like the way they ended season four,so I won't be too dissapointed if the rumor's false(I'd rather they ended while the series is still funny;unlike the last few seasons of the Simpsons, where there aren't many good episodes)

A rumour is a rumour, but I want false hope! I read in USA today that Matt wanted the series to continue, and was saddened to see that the plug was pulled from his show.

If they could only do this to The Critic...... :)

I do want to see the Hypno-Toad in something one more time. As Matt said, that had a lot of wasted potential because the show didn't last long enough for it to become a recurring gag.

More Futurama makes Fone Bone happy. I don't see why it WOULDN'T return because of DVD sales and Adult Swim. They may not be as strong as Family Guy's sales but it's still something.

Now, if we could just get Home Movies new episodes...

Where did you your facts, Behonkiss? All Matt does for the Simpsons nowadays is

A) whatever an excutive producer does

B) Go to every tableread

That's all he did for the Simpsons when Futurama was in production, he could easily make more Futurama eps. with the Simpsons still around.

Billy West had said that Cartoon Network wanted to revitalize Futurama but they just didn't have the money and there's no willing network partner. So it's completely up to FOX.

I was waiting for someone to use that line. Anyway, it would be great if these rumours are true, but if not, then it's not the end of the world.

I beg to differ. It would be end of my world if I never learned if Fry and Leela got together or not.

You never want shows back.

But, I want there to be a day where I can say this:

"Don't worry guys, we still have ZOIDBERG!!! WE ALL HAVE ZOIDBERG!"

Dat means I want it back. Dead...or alive!

*Crowd*: DEAD?!

A-alive, NOT dead.

A while back David X. Cohen debunked these rumours. However, he and Matt do still seem interested in continuing the show.

It's that FOX never aired it because their sports coverage constantly bled over into the 7PM Sunday slot, and they never considered giving Futurama a time slot that realistically made sense. So by the time the 4th season was completed, FOX had aired so little of it, they could market the remaining unaired episodes as a "5th season." They "stopped production" without "officially canceling" the show, but that's like saying you "stopped feeding your fish" instead of "killing" them. Fish need food to live, and so do sci-fi cartoon writers. FOX just didn't have the balls to come out and cancel it. But what do you expect? They're morons.

Incidentally, ever since day 1 of Futurama, Groening has talked about bringing it to the big screen. So even if FOX doesn't bring it back, there always remains the chance of an epic Futurama movie saga. And if ever there was a show perfect for the feature length leap, this is it.

Unfortunately, I don't see it happening-- at least not theatrically. Even with the resurgence of interest following Adult Swim and the DVD releases, it just doesn't have the mainstream popularity to bring in big audiences. Now, a DTV I could see doing pretty well, if they could find someone to fund it, that is-- maybe CN and Fox could split the bill, with Fox taking home the bigger slice of the DVD sales pie and CN getting the rights to air it after a coupla months of it being out on DVD. That might work.
