I would find it surprising if someone here has yet to hear Five For FIghting's song entitled "Superman". It's one of my fav songs at the moment and the lyrics are great. Thoughts? Anyone notice that songs having some relation to Supes are popping out? There was that one called Kryptonite which was great, and now the one by FFF. Is it just that there are certain themes and things about Superman that people can relate to and which make a great source for a song writer? Do you think anyone could ever make one that relates to Batman some how? I would think probably not, but who knows.

It's funny that you mention that Barb Gordon. I too have noticed that the general public, fan or non-fan would more likely sport a Superman shirt rather than a Batman shirt. Most hip-hop and rap lyrics have refered to Superman as well. Supposedly, that song "Kryptonite" by Three Doors Down, made that song with no reference to Superman. It just had the word, Kryptonite, in their main hook. My roomate told me about that Superman song by FFF, and he said he liked a lot. I still have yet to hear it.

No, Three Doors Down, does mention "Superman" in its chorus. ("If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman") The song is not about Superman though, obviously

Yes, i love that FFF song! And, it's gotten nowadays to that "kryptonite" just means "object causing intense weakness". Whenever people ask me about superheros, they always ask "what's their superpowers" and "what's their Kryptonite."
But the FFF song definately makes direct references to Superman.

There is a lot of Superman related things now, but I've seen pretty many people at school wearing Batman shirts, guys and girls alike. Heck, I even know a kid who wears a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle t-shirt. Anyway, MediaPlay sells a bunch of Batman/Superman/Spiderman/Scooby-Doo, etc. merchandise, so I guess that's where everyone gets it.
I love the FFF song, but there were also a few songs a couple years back that made references to Supes. 'Real World' by matchbox twenty had this chorus:
I wonder what it's like to be a super hero
I wonder where I'd go if I could fly around downtown
From some other planet, I'd get this funky high on yellow sun
Boy I'd bet my friends would all be stunned...
And I think Fastball also had a song that started out like 'I don't wanna be President, Superman or Clark Kent...'
I know there's a lot more. I was just wondering a few days ago if there were any songs relating to Batman, too. Hmm...

Regarding songs relating to Batman...There's a great band called The Normals that recorded a song called "Running from the sun"
Here's the reference from the lyrics:
"I am Dr. Jekyl and I am Mr. Hyde,
I've got Jesus on my skin and sometimes someone else inside,
I'm not Bruce Wayne so one of us is going to have to die."

That's what I meant, the song wasn't about Superman.

Yeah, good point you made Oracle. There are other kids at my school, lol, besides me that I've seen wear bat and supes shirts. And it's driving me insane! The girls I see wearing them have girl sized black shirts with the old bat logo, and I haven't been able to ever find that shirt, no fair! Speaking of other songs having Superman in the lyrics, Jim Croce had a song called Don't Mess Around with Jim, or something like that that had Superman in the lyrics:
You don't tug on Superman's cape,
You don't spit into the wind,
You don't pull the mask off that ol' Lone Ranger
and you don't mess around with Jim
But of course I enjoyed switching Lone Ranger for Batman...but, that's just me...

Most of the songs I find about Batman are either comedy songs (which don't quite give him the respect Superman gets!) or songs that mention other heroes. A very personal favorite song I love is "Superhero Me," which actually features all the heroes from the Justice League

I like that song by FFF because this is what I imagine when I hear it.
He flys into his apartment window after a very looong day.
He's had to deal with everything from supervillans to people questioning every little thing about him. From his politics to his loyalties to wether or not his morals and views are "outdated" to even his costume and cape.
He sits down in his chair and untucks his cape from his neck, sitting there just kinda staring at it. He runs his fingers through his hair mussing it, and slides on his glasses.
He then just sits there and for the duration of the song, it all gets to him and he just kind of spills his guts to noone but the fly on the wall there tolisten to him.
No matter what you do or how well you do it. No matter how much or even how little power you have, no matter that you always do what is right and just, its **never** easy to be Superman.

I just dloaded the song. Very cool! Although I havent deciphered all the words yet, I'm assuming it's an actual song about the actual Superman and not metaphorical? Also wondering, but is this song really recent?

That kind of the same imagery I got too Ter, concerning Supes and the music from FFF. Just him being real tired and all. I mean, there are just so many things that come to mind during that song. Like when he talks about how men aren't suppose to fly with the clouds between their knees. Or how he's not just some pretty face besides a train, not to mention the cape and all that. I love this song! I really wish someone would make a Superman music video using that song, you know how like on CN they have music videos every now and again?

LoL, stupid me. I've heard that songs a few times and didn't even realize what it was about. I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. Until today, the DJ on Live 105 announced it, "... the Superman Song." I really like it, it has a really cool tune. I still need to hear it a few more times for the lyrics to sink in.

Barb: I dont if you've ever seen the Alex Ross book SUPERMAN: Peace On Earth by Alex Ross but it deals with Superman trying to do something about world hunger and it all kinda blows up in his the poor guys face.
Theres this great scene where much like I desribed, he's sitting in his chair with his suit on but he's got a white button up shirt hanging open and his glasses on. Since its rendered in Alex Ross's photo-real style, its very powerful.
If I were going to direct a video for it, I'd build the entire thing around that image.
