See the news page. We've lost a great one, folks.
Frank was an enormous asset to the animation community in Disney's glory days, and this is a heartbreaker. The Nine Old Men are down to Ollie Johnson.
I'm going to go watch his cameo in Iron Giant in commemoration. A moment of silence, now.

I read The Illusion of Life by him and Ollie, Incredible book, definately worth reading for anyone who wants to work in animation.
He'll be missed.

There was an EXCELLENT documentary/cinema verite' film in the 1990's, released by DISNEY...entitled "FRANK & OLLIE" was an up-close and personal glimpse of the lives & artistry of those two masters.
It was only shown at "Art House" cinemas then...but I'd LOVE to see a DVD / VHS release somewhere in the world as a testimonial to those giants' legacy.
Frank, you WILL be MISSED! :(

Wow I thought he was already dead. Still the man made some great disney films in his life. I hope we never forget him or the other nine old men. may he rest in peace
And Ollie Johnson is the only one left, I did not know that either. Well may his legacy still live on also for many generations to come.
That's so sad.
I'm glad that he at least lived a long life. I was just looking into finding The Illusion of Life, too.

Frank Thomas, one of the most talented, inventive and influential animators in the history of the art form, a member of Walt Disney's elite "Nine Old Men," and a pioneering animator who worked on many classic shorts and features during his 43-year career at the Disney Studios, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, at his home in Flintridge, California. He was 92 years old.
This has been on the News thread, I thought I would post it here too..Stuart

NOOOOOO! Why couldnt they have been the Nine Young Men and still be animating? They were all so talented and 92 years isnt long enough on earth for such an amazing person. R.I.P Frank Thomas

The Frank and Ollie DVD is available on amazon.com. I bought it a few months ago and it's a real nice DVD. Go get at once! (You better get 'Walt, the man behind the myth' too since they are both great)

I'm going to go watch his cameo in Iron Giant in commemoration. A moment of silence, now.I didn't know he had a cameo in that movie. Was it a voice over cameo or was a characture of him drawn in? I'd like to know so I can look and/or listen for him.
I picked up an old 'Frank and Ollie' VHS a few months ago. Great movie. A must see for anyone who loves animation. :)

Both he and Ollie are there, very prominent in one scene- they're the two old conductors who tell Kent about seeing the giant before running him over. When you listen to Ollie's character, you can even tell that he's calling the other Frank.
