LUMBER JACK MATCH
Sept. 9, 2004

Last week, former WWE Champions Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero battled in a two-out-of-three falls match to determine which SmackDown! Superstar was the better wrestler. The third and deciding fall, however, ended in controversy, as Luther Reigns interfered on Angle's behalf. This week, General Manager Theodore Long has gone to great lengths to ensure that a clear cut winner will be be declared. It will be Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero in a Lumber Jack Match. Who is the better wrestler? Tune in to SmackDown! to find out.

WWE Champion JBL will face Charlie Haas in one-on-one action.

The WWE Tag Team Championship will be on the line this week when champions Paul London and Billy Kidman face off against the new duo of Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree. Has Kidman overcome the recent trauma that has surrounded him and his Shooting Star Press? Find out this week on SmackDown!

Also, two great cruiserweights will take to the ring when Rey Mysterio takes on the Cruiserweight Champion Spike Dudley.

All this and more this week on SmackDown! (8/7 CT on UPN)

The ending went down just the way I expected it to, but unfortunately it was the Big Show when I was hoping for Brock Lesnar. D'oh.

They need to make the tag belts like the women's and cruiser. Put them on one show. Makeshift teams are lame enough on their own, but when you put the belts on them it makes it even worse. Except Rhyno & Tajiri of course. When they win on Sunday it's gonna rock. :D

Heidenreich stinks, but anyone who makes Cole look like an ass is OK in my book. The wrestler v. announcer thing is stupid and tired, but if it leads to Tazz getting back in the ring, even one time only, keep it going.

Makeshift teams are lame enough on their own, but when you put the belts on them it makes it even worse. Except Rhyno & Tajiri of course. When they win on Sunday it's gonna rock. Rhyno and Tajiri aren't in the same category: let me break it down for you.

First, you have your traditional tag teams: the guys who look alike, dress alike, and maybe even have a cool doubleteam move.
The Dudleys. La Resistance. And I'll say even London and Kidman fall in theis category.

Second, you have your friends and stables who, while they may still be pursuing singles careers individually, have an established camardere which makes them an effective part-time tag team.
Jericho and Christian, Flair and Batista, and I'd throw Mysterio and Edge in here today, though during their tag run of two years ago I'd have thrown them in one of the next two categories.

Third, you have your dedicated opportunists. These guys haven't much real history together. They maintain their individuality. But they set singles wrestling aside for the time being to focus on a tag title run, and unlike the last category, they're team won't instantly dissolve the day they lose their tag titles, barring a break-up angle.
Rhyno and Tajiri. Booker T and Rob Van Dam. RVD and Kane. Booker T and Goldust.

Finally, you have your true thrown-together tag teams. They have no real history together, they suddenly have a title shot. The day they win the gold may even be the first time they've tagged together. And once the gold is lost, the team is instantly forgotten. The two may even fued against each other down the road, and the announcers won't even think to remember that they used to be tag partners.
Suzuki and Dupree. Chris Benoit and Edge. Tazz and Spike Dudley. Booker T and Test.

Granted, there are teams that it may be hard to pigeonhole into one of these four categories, but I hope I've made a clear distinction between Rhyno/Tajiri and Dupree/Suzuki.
