Well well well! Harry Potter, the movie that has the masses in such antici---------------pation....will premier. So, what are everyones expectations for the movie?
Well, both Ebert & Roeper gave Harry Potter 2 thumbs waaaay up. Their description of a "Modern day Indiana Jones in Wonder Land" Really got my engine revved up. I like the sound of that! :D
Oh, BTW, does anyone know if people are already pre-purchasing tickets? I'd REALLY like to see it openning night!

Yep, I already got my tickets a couple days ago for Friday night. I'm REALLY looking forward to this movie, since I've been a fan since near the beginning. I'm glad the critics like it so far. I can't wait! :D

I've heard that some theatres have been pre-selling tickets for a couple weeks now.
I've never read the HP books, so I don't think I'll be seeing it, unless my famiily decides to see it over Thanksgiving or something.

I'll be seeing it opening night, I'm kinda trying to avoid being really hyped about this though.

Same here. Though there's supposed to be a Star Wars trailer attached right? That would be my only interest.

That is correct. Lucas is attaching another teaser trailer of Episode 2 with Harry Potter. This time though it will be 2 minutes and have dialogue, music and sound effects.
As for the hype thing, we all know what happens when you get too hyped for a movie.... I already have my tickets and I'll be seeing it opening night. I'm going into it with the same frame of mind that I did Planet of the Apes. I was skeptical when going into it, but came out very pleased. I will never hype myself for a movie again like I did Jurassic Park 3. God, did that movie disappoint the hell out of me.

do people really buy tickets to movies just to see a trailer for another movie? it seems like a waste of money.

I GUESS it will be good-but three things:
1. Remember-all the hype can be bad. Even if Siskel and Ebert like it, there's a good chance that it's gonna be dissapoiting in some respects.
2. It's selling out in a way-Rowling's finally done it. I wish she was like Bill Watterson of CALVIN AND HOBBES and just not merchandise the books. It cheapens the creation...
3. I'd rather leave it to my imagination of all the magic. It's better that way.
...
Sorry, but I'm just afraid this is going to cheapen the books...they're good, I've read them all, and I don't want them to be ruined. :(

They can't be ruined. They're already written. You don't have to like the money-making franchise, but that doesn't take anything away from the books. That'd be like saying Michael Jordan's comeback (which has not been going well so far) ruins his whole career, which of course it doesn't. What he did from 1988-1998 can never be taken away. And the HP books' quality is something that can't be taken away either.
That said, I'm not about to run out and see this movie. Ebert and Roeper may like it, but I know people have different opinions, and I haven't liked everything Ebert liked, much as I respect his analyses. And I'm a bit dry on funds lately.
But I agree on one thing--we have a set image on what everything in the book looks like. Harry in the movie does not look like my interpretation of Harry from the book. For one thing, movie Harry's hair is way too neatly combed.
I'm not too enthused about Star Wars Episode whatever either. I think that's a franchise that may have past its time, though obviously from all the money it still makes, it's just my lone voice. After the Phantom Menace, there isn't much to look forward to, other than oodles of computer enhancements and characters not quite looking directly at annoying digitally created objects.

I've never done that, but I guess people do. I was just saying that the SW trailer would be my only interest in seeing the Potter film. But I would never buy a ticket just for that. If some friends or family are going to see it, I'd probably tag along, but not for the trailer alone.

Very true. But that also applies to the Star Wars movies. Lucas has planned this for a long time. It's already been established that Star Wars was to have been nine movies. We'll only being seeing six of those, with the remaining two having been planned well in advance.

I think I will laugh (and not for the right reasons) when I see any broom-flying, whether it's Quidditch or the scene with Malfoy and Harry on brooms (with the Remembrall....yeah, that scene.)
From the promos on TV that I have seen, no matter what they do, I don't think they can make broom-flying look realistic. It'll always be wires and green screen.
So that's my biggest question: How laughable will those scenes be?
I came this |_| close to getting tickets for opening night, but one friend said, "Oh, we'll have bowling then. We won't be back in time," and my friend with the tickets didn't consult me when i would've said, "Screw bowling! Gimme the tickets." *sighs* I wonder if the theater has sold out yet.

I've heared that Roger Ebert said that the Quidditch scenes looked amazingly believable...you never know with the technology they're using these days. Guess we'll find out Friday since the previews have only shown small little parts of the Quidditch scenes.
I'm so hyped for this movie! :D

epsecially now adays, when you can DL the SW Episode 2 trailer the day after it premiers.
As for the broom-riding..I agree. It's always been wires & a green screen. Oh well. I still think the movie's gona be great.
BTW, anyone notice there are 2 kinds of HP tv commercials out? There's the light nice ones which kinda give an overview of the movie...then there are these dark creepy ones in the forest that make you think "woah...coool!"
hmm..

I will definitley go see this movie. I won't go opening night or even opening weekend, however. think about it, this movie is expected to sell out. the movie is mainly marketed to kids under 12. do you really wnt to sit in a movie theater packed to the gills with little kids and thier parents? Not me. I think i'll go on a weekday while kids are in school.

The movie's two and a half hours long...if people try and bring their little, little kid to the movie they're gonna have trouble sitting through it. It's just the real little kids that bother me (like the ones that were crowding the theater during Monsters Inc. two Saturdays ago), the kids around 7 and older are just fine. I'm going on Friday night....It is going to be so packed in that theater....

Seems some Wiccas pitched a hissy some months back over the position of the brooms that Potter and his friends fly on. As I recall, the brooms are supposed to face one direction but in the movie they face the opposite. To them it's a sacrilege equivalent to, say, hanging a crucifix upside down or subsituting Snapple for the wine in communion....

Yeah, I heard about that... How traditionally the brush part goes in front... But that hasn't been used in a loooooooong time and judging by the fact that Hogwarts has a Christmas feast rather than a Yule, the Wiccan winter holiday, one seems to point towards a Christian majority... It's a pretty secular celebration of 12/25, though... And the older students have a Yule Ball in December (I think Gregory and Vincent were eachother's dates)

I hate when they do this. It's such an easy way to boost ticket sales by including a Star Wars trailer in just about every movie from now until May. The rabid Star Wars fans are prolly gonna see every movie the trailer is in to get their fix of the new movie, (which IMHO looks horrible).
