View Full Version : What TMNT theme is your preference?

It's a simple question. We all know that when TMNT was revamped, it was completely revamped with a new theme song and everything. However, there are many old schoolers that just can't help but put the new series only second tier to the orginals, and who can blame them? It also appears that the theme song was one of the bigger points of debate for those who were familiar to the older series. So I ask this question: which theme song do you prefer, the 1980s or the 2000s version? And tell me why.

I prefer the "Turtles Count it off". I guess its because of Shredder's seriousness. Maybe Shredder was serious in the beginning of the 80's show (Yes, i saw every episode, but dont remember them much anymore.) But He got close to the wacky/whiney type as the series progressed.. I mean God, They were travelling in a truck, Krang was humiliating him.. Whereas this new series, Shredder is completely evil. He doesnt take crap from nobody. And Unlike the 80's when Bebop and Rhino were morons, at least Hun is decently bright. So I like the 2000 show better.

Though I still like the '80s TMNT, I like the new one more and think that, overall, it's a better series for the Turtles. However, I hate the new theme (if you can call it that). I thought maybe it would grow on me over time, but it hasn't yet. I definitely prefer the '80s theme instead.

I hate the new series compared to the old one. I salvage the tapes I have of them too. The new one is good, but I have decided not to bother watching anymore, but it is still good, and the dialoge is great!!:D "Where The Shell Are We?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?" :p

It's like comparing the orginal star trek theme song to the Enterprise theme song. They both equally suit their respective shows even though one isn't as spunky as the other. Though that alone may be a deterrent to some who find that no show should have no spunk.
So which one's better? I can't chose. They both rock my saturdays. Woot:)

"Heroes In A Half-Shell" will always be my favorite version. But still, "Turtles Count It Off/I Love Bein' A Turtle" is still cool too. What about the one used from 1994-1997 in the red sky episodes? That was lame...

The answer's obvious- "Heroes in a Half Shell". The most catchy lyrics, the most hummable theme, and it hasn't shown much age, unlike some other era-reliant themes. Though the 2003 TMNT theme by no means disgraced itself...
What about the one used from 1994-1997 in the red sky episodes? That was lame... The entire string of Red Sky episodes were lame. :p

I love that one actually, how dare you :p
All the theme songs have been pretty well done, except for the one from Next Mutation, which was garbage. Even the original version of the 2003 theme was pretty good (not sure where you can find it these days, but a link was posted here some time ago).

I like "Turtles Count It Off" better, don't know why but I like it. "Heroes In A Half Shell is also cool but "Turtles Count It Off" will be my all-time favorite.
The "Heroes in a Half Shell" version, of course! :)
Maybe I'm nostalgic, but it's one of the few main themes from a cartoon that I still remember from my childhood. The other ones are the Animaniacs and the Tiny Toon's songs :P

Both versions are equally good, however I like the 80's theme song better. Don't really know why, just have a preference for it.

Personally I can't stand the new theme song, I mean "Turtles there's no one better, Turtles watch out for Shredder?" Oyyy...
Give me the classic one any day of the week.

This is the biggest no-brainer in the history of no-brainers.
The new theme is pretty decent for a current theme song (since most are just awful) but the original is a classic and my favorite theme song of ALL TIME.

Definitely the 80s theme song. I hated the 2003 theme, but it grew on me, and I enjoy it now, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the original theme song.
HOORAY!! My 900th post!

When I think of Ninja Turtles, I think of the original series, including in regards to the theme song. For me, the new version just doesn't compare.

You know, actually, my favorite Ninja Turtles theme is the theme from Turtles in Time, which was the second arcade game. I think it was called "Pizza Power" or something like that. I think it sounded better than both the original theme and the new theme. I'm surprised they never used that theme on a TV show. I wonder who sung it?
By the way, does anyone remember what the Next Mutation theme sounded like?
Turtles in a Half-Shell, definetely. If it weren't for the fact that it still has the original turtle voices, and the fact that the lyrics make no sense in this turtleverse, I'd want it in the new show. Turtles counting off is okay, musicwise (and the beat fits perfectly with the visuals). The lyrics, though, are pure cheese (which I'll accept for the old show, but not for the current one) .

Turtles In a Half-Shell, hands down.
Now that I think of it, there should be some guitar tabs for that song lying around somewhere.

This thread reminds me of the Turtles live musical a friend of mine had on tape.
It had a buch of songs in it (including Turtles in Time's Pizza Power). One great scene involved Shredder going on about how he hated music, he even a song about it. I at first thought he was hypocritical, 'cept when I thought about it, it was a rap song

Wow, neat! So, I guess there's a full version of "Pizza Power" out there somewhere. The version on turtles in time is less than a minute.
