Well certainly there will be comparisons between the two.And all the while, I wouldn't be able to help but, out of bias just bash this version of batman.
I think that either one of the series will outshine the other, and I'm pretty sure it'll be BTAS though! ;)
I don't have much to say, just want to listen to others opinions.

BTAS will definately outshine The Batman, mostly because it was true to the characters and designs for them, while The Batman has some screwed up mutant looking versions of all the villains.
The Batman will outshine JLU, however.

The Batman will outshine JLU, however. Are you kidding me. Nothing The Batman do will beat JLU's For The Man Who Has Everything. I'm sorry but The Batman is not nearly as good as JLU. The later episodes of JLU are going to be awesome.

I think the case is more the other way around. BTAS is the standard that all other DCAU shows are compared to. This new Batman will have a tougher time than any other because we've already had a Batman show and it was awesome. So I don't think you have anything to worry about in regards to BTAS's reputation and standing among the fans.
I have seen an episode of The Batman at Comic-Con and I thought it was good. It's definitely different and not trying to be BTAS. It also features a younger Bruce Wayne who's got all the martial arts, but still learning the ropes of being a detective. I personally don't mind different and I know this version of Batman has no relation to the BTAS continuity so my attitude is just sit back, relax and let's see how it goes.

The Batman will be the new BTAS of the next generation DCAU and next-gen DCAU fans. :p

I don't think it will be. From what I've seen, it doesn't have the longevity of BTAS. In otherwords, it won't grow up with you like BTAS did. I imagine it will be popular with the young 'uns, but won't offer enough substance to make it last.
I'm sure it will be popular, it's Batman, and it's important people give it a chance, but I've seen little that suggests to me that it will retain that timeless quality BTAS aqquired. It's a very rare quality in cartoons.

I was about to make a snarky comment about "Grow up with you," but I reread it and I think I know what you mean now.
Okay, it won't be B:TAS. It never could and let's get that out of our systems. But that still doesn't mean it can't be worthwhile. From what I've seen, some of what they are doing looks very interesting. Though other things don't look as good.
But it's too early for any of us to judge it's merits as a series, (Even for the mods who have only seen an episode or two.) so it's also too early to judge how it compares to, say, JLU or Teen Titans. I haven't been very impressed with JLU I admit, but it's still unfair to say "The Batman is going to be better/worse than JLU."

To an extent I agree. I'm not saying from my perspective it's a bad show, I just don't see it having the longevity of BTAS.
I'm not an old BTAS fan. I was mildly interested at the time, and only in the last few years doing DKA has both my interest and appreciation grown. So I don't speak from rose tinted nostalgia.
Furthermore judging from what I've heard some of the crew have said to the intended depth of the show, it seems unlikely it will ever have the layers that BTAS did.
I do think BTAS was truely unique in the world of kid's animation and I think that gives "The Batman" an incredibly hard standard to live up to.
From what I've seen, I think it will appeal to many kids, I just don't see either in the show or the mandate of the show much that suggests it will have that timeless appeal that BTAS does.
Nevertheless, I'm sure people will still get a kick out of seeing Batman in any form, and I'm sure the younger generation will love it.
Question is, will the grow out of it...?

I think it is going to last a season, maybe 2. OK, it takes place in his 3rd yr as Bats & yet they already have him sporting 10 different outfits? BTAS Bats never wore nothing but his classic look in the first 85 episodes & I believe BTAS takes place when Bats has been in Gotham quite a few yrs, more than 3 for sure!

Two seasons have already been greenlit, maybe even a third one by now, so it's not like it won't have a decent run.

First, there is definatly 2 seasons. And second, how do you know Batman is wearing 10 different outfits? Because of the toys? There were alot of variant Batmans for BTAS and they weren't in the show.

It's been said that some of the outfits from the toyline will be appearing on the show.

Yeah, not 10 though. There are 2 to my knowledge and they make sense to the story.

I'm pretty sure they'll have him sport more than just 2 batsuits as the season progresses. Doesn't he also use some sort of futuristic gadget that gives him other wpns as well? I'll give the series a shot but I still wish they coulda just made new BTAS episodes!

I don't see this new version having the longevity of BTAS either. I'm... indifferent. So long as Batman stays on JLU I have no problems with this show. I just know I'm probably not gonna love it.
I plan on watching it, but the episode I saw was souless. I watched it twice, and have no ambition to see it again. I tried to like this show, when I was a kid, Spider-Man was my favourite show, then came Spider-Man Unlimited, which I hated. Then there was MTV. 2 Spider-Man shows to end my favourite cartoon.
But seriously, I was bitterly dissapointed with this show.
The Batman will outshine JLU, however.
You know I love you Trav, but seriously, it won't.

Doesn't he also use some sort of futuristic gadget that gives him other wpns as well? He supposedly has an advanced remote-controlled link called the "Bat-Wave" which connects all his hi-tech devices and vehicles. You just KNOW some villain will damage or sever that link at some point ...
I'm not expecting BTAS. I've read that the powers-that-be want this show to sell toys to kids, and with its emphasis on action and gadgets, I don't doubt it will. I'm interested that it's a new Batman series, but I'm not expecting something earth-shattering or revolutionary or timeless. I guess I'm just tempering my expectations - but I am looking forward to it.

The Batman show itself doesn't have to last ungodly #s of eps - I meant, it just has to be the precursor influence for another "set" of DCAU v2.0, like how BTAS started its own.

So? That's how young people are. How many yuppies start out wearing all kinds of GenX-influenced attire but reduce to mainly suits by their 30s? Youth is the time to be more... "experimental." Then afterwards, become more conservative and stick only to the tried and true.

The thing is, I don't think it will. Unless, I'm completely wrong about the quality of the show, I don't see WB greenlighting spinoff after spinoff. Don't get me wrong, it would be interesting if we saw The Superman or The Justice League but I don't see it happening.
If it DOES however, I just want to make sure Timm is done with his version. I don't want ANOTHER DCAU forcing the current off the air.

From what I've heard, Bryan Singer is attached to direct a new Superman movie for 2006 or 2007, so that project may be getting off the ground now. If it does, it may just spark a new Superman cartoon, but the movie itself is actually about an older Superman, (it may even be a semi-sequal to the Reeve pictures,) so I don't think we'll be getting a young hip superman show down the line.

Other than the movie what reason did they have for rebooting the series? I doubt this series will be handled well. I believe if it ever hits it's 52 ep mark it will be done and forgotten. I hope they just run them straight through...the earlier they finish the better.
I would have really like if they did year one batman using the BTAS batman. Think about all the years he was Batman. Then all they have to do is link it up w/ where Batman the animated series started and WHALAH. Kevin Conroy is Batman. He's been Batman for years then they have to change him...I hope the don't touch the version on the JL.

Lostrune, I doubt Bruce Wayne has ever thought of himself as a "Yuppie". He stopped being a child at age 8, the night his parents were taken from him in cold blood! Nuff said". WB just wants this show to sell toys & appeal to the Gen-X crowd w/all these revamped perversions of classic Bat villians such as the Joker, Bane, Catwoman, etc! Rastafarian Joker! Bob Kane (rest his soul) would be so proud of that change  ! Ever hear the term "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

Well, I was just using "yuppie" as an example. I wasn't directly equating Bruce Wayne to a "yuppie." Though now that you brought it up, that would've been interesting... hmmm.... Anyways, just think of it as The Batman experimenting with his different suits to see which ideas work, before putting all the good ideas together in one ultimate suit.
This is a new Batman. They intentionally "broke" it in order to start a new line. Sooner or later there's gonna be a replacement - Bruce Timm, Kevin Conroy, et. al. are going to move on some time; they can't be there forever. So, I guess WB is just trying out something now, sooner rather than later when the old line jumps the shark.
