It was no surprise that Monsters Inc continued to reign as #1. This will likely be it's last weekend at the top spot as Harry Potter sweeps in next weekend for an easy victory. Shallow Hal had an impressive weekend pull, but will likely suffer steep drop offs. *Sigh*...still no Glitter...

1. Monsters Inc - $46,200,000 ($122.8 mill)
2. Shallow Hal - $23, 280,000 ($23.3 mill)
3. The One - $9,100,000 ($31.9 mill)
4. Domestic Disturbance - $8,500,000 ($26 mill)
5. Hiest - $8,010,000 ($8 mill)
6. K-Pax - $6,200,00 ($40.3 mill)
7. 13 Ghosts - $4, 175,000 ($34 mill)
8. Life As A House - $3, 675,000 ($4.9 mill)
9. Riding in Cars With Boys - $2,100,000 ($27.8 mill)
10. Training Day - $1,935,000 ($72.5 mill)

From Hell dropped out of the top 10 rathar quickly, it's total gross being a respectable 30 million. Next weekend should prove to be interesting...

Dang! That's only about a 30% drop from the first week-end, which is really impressive considering the size of that gross. I mean, didn't POTA drop about 50% or 60%?

*Sigh*...still no Glitter...

Heh. Just a clever marketing ploy on the studio's part. They're waiting for the masses to discover it and then POW! Straight to the top of the chart! :p

I don't think there will be any thing too interesting next week. Harry Potter will blow Monsters Inc off the top spot. I am sure Monsters Inc will be able to maintain a #2 position, but that's just expected.

Is Shallow Hal any good?

Yeah...FOX Knows what they're doing...laying low with GLITTER. They know POTTER is no competition. I was suprised with the low drop off for MONSTERS INC. It fell only 30% while THE ONE and DOMESTIC DISTURBENCE both dropped 60%! This movie is definatly going to have alot of staying power. I'm guessing $240 mill gross.

I had already predicted that Harry Potter would be beat The Lost World's all time best opening of $72 million. The only thing I haven't done is guessed a number, and I have NO idea how much Harry Potter will make it's first weekend. I guess I'll play it safe and say between $73 and $80 million it's opening weekend. Anyone else have predictions?

BTW, it looks like we'll have our 4th $200 million movie in 2001 with Monsters Inc. with the way it's going. That puts it with The Mummy Returns, Shrek, and Rush Hour 2. By the end of November or the begining of Decemeber we should see our 5th $200 million movie in Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is opening on 6000+ screens. I'll say it grosses $88 million.

Anyone else wanna get in on this? :D

6000 screens? Geez, with that number, it would be impossible to make less than 70 million the first weekend...

My geuss-timation will be $92 - 98 million. I think it'll then fall 50% in the following week, and tap out at around $375 mill.

What's so *%$# great about Harry Potter?! I'll admit, visually it looks pretty good, but God this sound pretty boring to me. I know, I can already see some of you getting ready to toss stuff at me, but I just don't understand the pull... especially with the action figures sitting on the shelves at retail stores collecting dust...

Just curious if you've read the books. The books are great...my favorites right now. However, I could care less about the merchandise...I have feeling that's why the action figures aren't being sold too well, Because the people who love the books really don't care about all the extra merchandise. Anyway, I'm seeing the movie because I love the books so much and think that it will be fun to see them on the big screen...anyways, just my input...

Flhero, I went through the same thing. I saw all the excess and complete freaking out over the books and thought, "damn, how over-hyped could you get?" I got burnt out on the whole phenomenon, simply because there was so much attention paid to it. But then, I got curious and cracked the books... and I couldn't put it down.

Really, the merchendising is out of control, but the books really are pretty darn good. Give them a try.

I must be the one person on earth who just couldn't get into the books. Not my thing, I guess. Maybe you've all been brainwashed into believing it's good. Like Harley putting that chemical stuff on her books in the comics. Hmmmm....:p

I assume some if those toys will fly off the shelves by Christmas, but not for now. I plan to see the movie, but have no interest whatsoever in buying all that useless merchandise.
