This is a Cartoon Cartoons board. This is off-topic and will be moved to the appropriate board. Thank you.
Moved to the appropriate board...

While this board doesn't condone outright bashing, I will agree that the Disney Channel is a really, really bad channel. What's the deal with this ZOOG stuff? The concept isn't that goood and it comes off as annoying. Then again, their shows aren't good either. It seems that Disney has taken the same route of MTV and created a second channel for good stuff so they can play all the crap on the first channel.

The only show I like on that anymore is the old Zorro..occasionally I'll watch other shows...Even/Stevens is a sorta funny show..but I can live without it.
Disney does suck...yeah...the stuff is way too corny.

If I paid attention to it, I'd probably hate it. But I learned a long time ago that there was nothing worth watching on it.

There was a time when the Disney Channel used to actually show good stuff. But then they moved everything to Toon Disney and are only showing alot of crappy sit-coms no one cares about. And what exactly is the deal with "Zoog"? In my opinion, the Disney channel started to reek as soon as they started showing commercials that do NOTHING but advertise more crappy shows.

There is, more often than not, nothing to watch on it. The stuff that I do watch includes: "Lizzie McGuire" (though they really ought to strap her irritating little brother to a rocket headed for the sun), "Pepper Ann" and the occasional "Boy Meets World" rerun. Their original movies are...below par (that's the first adjective that came to mind), but the theatrical releases are pretty good, like "Wish Upon a Star" and "Cats Don't Dance" (I can't, for the life of me, figure out how Disney gets to air it, and not, say, CN).
And what's the deal with this "Zoog" stuff? Is it a natural resource? An illegal narcotic? The public has a right to know.
I'd like to go off on a tangent if I may: Ever since TRL debuted on MTV, it seems that every channel has gone out of its way to mimic it. It's like MTV is the Borg collective and the other nets are being assimilated. Examples: Nick, VH-1, CMT (which MTV now owns), Disney, etc.)

You know what irks me the most on that channel? that bugjuice crap where they send kids off to some camp and make it some big drama reality show for kids. ugh. that disgusts me when they're trying to show all these love drama these 12-year olds have. how horrible. the only thing i like about that channel is that they show the next karate kid and airborne, both of which have this really hot guy in it. :p they used to show it without commercials but that changed. =|

In the time since Disney stopped being a premium channel - seems like a long time ago, but only three years - I've watched Bambi, Kiki's Delivery Service, and the Vault Disney stuff that comes on at like two in the morning. Otherwise, it's been uninteresting and has only gotten worse as they've shifted toward tweenager programming. I skip right on by these days without a second look.
What I want to know is, what do they have for the new ABC Family Channel that's not good enough for Disney main? (shudders)

I wouldn't watch a show that advertises a "suga" grandmamma dancing to Destiny's Child. Minorities shouldn't be "proud" of this show because it insults their intelligence.
Shows that appell to minorities are scarce and the ones that do exist are not deep at all. Maybe I should watch it, but it comes across as simple pandering in the commercials.
I am mad because ZOOG replaced clever shows like Jim Henson's Dinosaurs.

I hate what it's become. From the 80s to around the time "Hunchback" was released, it was a great network that showcased lots of Disney's past programming from the 50s to the 80s at all hours, commercial-free. Bonus: The DTV segments, which served as an introduction to the music of the 80s for me (that's how I first heard bands and singers like Eurhythmics, Pat Benatar and Hall & Oates...set against clips from Disney cartoons. Lord, how I miss those segments). They then went commercial in 1996 and it was all downhill from there. (((SIGH)))
Sincerely,
John "Captain Caps" Kilduff
For the record, the songs I heard by the artists mentioned on DTV were, respectively, "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This", "You Better Run" and "Private Eyes", that last one set against great footage from a cartoon where Goofy played a private detective.

They show Doug?? No way! Which one, the original Nicktoon Doug, or the worse, icky, new Roger voice Brand Spankin' New Doug? I loved the old one.
And I too think that it has gone downhill. We used to have it when my sisters and I were younger, and I'd watch programs such as Dumbo's Circus, the live action Winnie the Pooh, CareBears, and more. Now, I see The Book of Pooh, which I can't stand to watch.
I do try to catch eps of Boy Meets World, because I used to really like the show. And over the weekend I did see the movie "Wish Upon a Star", which, surprisingly, wasn't bad.
However, when we got the Disney channel a few months back (it was added to our regular cable system in May) I was hoping for the days of yore, when I could love Disney as much as I used to love CN. I was also hoping to catch some Disney Afternoon cartoons. No such luck :(
Maybe when I get my own place I'll be able to order Toon Disney and Boomerang, so that I can see some great toons.

girl:"i was afriad if you knew who i was you wouldnt want to go out with me"
guy:"of course i would want to go out with you"

then i changed the channel. the only cool thing on disney is vault disney where they show all of their expirmental reject movies from the 80s like the "devil and max dublin" who better to play satan than bill cosby?

"Even Stevens" is retarded. I would love to punch that Shai prick in the face. Lizzie Mcguire (I hate her!) is so bratty, she need A good hard beating from The Powerpuff Girls. "Bug Juice" is nothing more than a A crappy, and perverted I might add, pre teen version Temtation Island. The Proud Family could be decent if it didn't pander to minorities so much. The only watchable show they've got is "Boy Meets World", and maybe "Smart Guy". Half of the other shows makes "Saved By the Bell" look like masterpiece Theater. Other than some decent movies, the channll has pure crap all the way. Now my friend saw one of those Disney Channel movies called "Brink", and liked it. I would look at if it was released theatrically from Walt Disney Pictures, but the fact that it's A Disney channel movie has me spooked. (Alot of them suck. So sue me. Maybe "Brink" is the only legit one that's made, and that's saying something.)

For most of the 80s and a good chunk of the 90s, I wanted cable solely for this channel. Now I've finally got it and wonder what the heck happened to all the programming my aunt used to tape for me back when I was younger. I don't think there's anything shown here produced before 1996. Not even the grand old cartoons from the height of the Disney Afternoon era. For the life of me, I can't figure out who they're marketing to. I wouldn't let my kids watch banal drivel like this.

Remember when they showed comercials and behind-the-scenes looks of Disney Channel Movie "Caddet Kelly", that when they were doing their gun twirling, it said at the bottom in big bold letters that "NO REAL GUNS WERE USED IN THIS MOVIE" What's with that, are they trying to make sure parents don't think Di$ney is hiding kiddie terrorists? :p

That "No Guns were used" message is stupid beyond belife. Are they really that parinoid? It's amazes me that Di$ney had guns in Pocahontas, Gargoyles, and Atlantis. Although Hillary Duff (Lizzie) is kinda evil when you think about it.

Personally I think Toon Disney has a lot less problems than Disney Channel does - the only thing I watch on Disney is Zorro occassionally while I'll watch Gargoyles, Aladdin and some other stuff on Toon Disney. I just wish they would learn from CN and start creating new eps. for their channel. They could bring back Team Atlantis and also bring back Greg to do some new eps of Gargoyles at the late night time slot they're at currently.

Not A bad idea. Toon Disney dose have most of the Cool shows from the Disney Afternoon years, and alot of them would benifit from more episodes, and movies. (If done right.) and it would be cool if they were a bit like Cartoon Network. First they have to be A little more relaxed with their editing standards (We can only hope.) Also, they should stop using kids in their ads. That reinforces the "cartoons are for kids" stereotype, and get behind more of their bold, and darring projects like "Gargoyles", and "Atlantis".

remember, Atlantis was pointed for older fans of Disney, (which is why it did well). Gargoyles was trying to be like Batman. The Villian was the best (reminds me from one from another show i like (take a guess, everyone. The cool suave bastard)

I remember as a kid that I couldn't wait for the free seasonal preview of the Disney Channel. When it would come on, I was treated to shows that I couldn't see anywhere else. The channel was simply amazing that way. For 2 solid weeks, I had argurably the best channel free to watch. Then when the 2 weeks were up, I cried...because I couldn't see my favorite "unreachable" shows anymore.
Then we enter 1997- 1998. The free previews were overwith and the Disney channel had changed forever. It had went commercial, trying to appeal to younger viewers. The channel slowly became MTV, playing pseudo Teen crap and other such nonsense. I embarrased to even have said that I liked it.

I also remember back in the late 1980's and early 1990's that the Disney Channel had better programming back then, than it does today in the year 2002. The Disney Channel went from being good quality to now a MTV wannabe.

Here's what I can piece together from 98-ish to now from Disney Channel.(Unfortunately, we got cable about the time Zoog started and things fell apart. Now the only reason I see it is because it's my idiotic brother's favorite channel.)
Disney Channel was once a good channel, showing the classic toons(Though not the theatrical ones, with the exception of a recent showing of A Bug's Life.). I can't remember much else, because that's when the Zoogs took over.
Up till this year, I LIKED the concept, but ultimately I never really liked the execution. Here's what I do remember:
Yes, the Zoogs are the cel-shaded robot things that pop up during ads. When it started, the characters were done in a more quirky, cartoony style, and while computer-animated, were paper-thin a la Paper Mario and PaRappa.
The first couple of shows for the block were:
-The Famous Jett Jackson: Still shown often. I honestly do like this show, though the TV movie, which was also the series finale, had a really far-fetched premise that I didn't like. Unfortunately, it's cancelled.
-So Weird: I liked this one as well. A cool, sort of X-Files for a younger group, with Mackenzie Phillips to boot. There was a rapid change in Season 3 when the main character was replaced(dunno why), but it still remained pretty good. Unfortunately, I think they only show it extremely late now.
-Z Games: Meh. This was about kids making up sports and showing them on TV. Pretty lame. Completely cancelled.
-Flash Forward: Pretty much in the same vein as the current shows, and just as lame. I'm pretty sure it originally aired on ABC. Completely canned.
Around September '00, the Zoog style got a massive redesign; the characters were now 3D and cel-shaded, and got massive voice and look makeovers, as much to make you think they were completely new characters.(I also remember that a character or two were completely eliminated, including a talking cube...)I think the interactivity feature reached its peak here: Besides the game highscores and polls, viewers could send in responses for ads that would be read and responded to by the Zoogs. Pretty cool, actually. Another plus is that they soon completely ditched the MTV approach, stopping the specials and video voting. However, they took off reruns of Growing Pains(:(), but they added Boy Meets World, which is pretty funny. Then what pride they had left went down the crapper, as all their old shows were cancelled and replaced with the crap we know today. I originally thought Proud Family was funny, but now the only thing on it that makes me laugh is the old Mexican guy who makes that insane laughing sound.
Whew. Did I miss anything?

You know what else I can't stand, Movie Surfers! (http://www.seanbaby.com/superfriends/wondertwins.htm) God I hate those meddling kids! I also think the zoogs come from Bizarro World! (http://www.seanbaby.com/superfriends/bizarro.htm)

The Movie Surfers use to be good, but then they added that stupid chit-chat room where everybody makes fake laughs and always say every disney movie they reviewed is the best(when you know there were some movies that got them taking 10 showers because the felt dirty for saying all disney movie were a hit.).(I guess the checks they get buys out their dignaty to the cent.)
I never really watch the Disney channel anymore(aside from occasionally watching Boy Meets World re-runs)....they just don't have good programming anymore(and the "Zoogs" don't help things,either).....
I like some of the Toon Disney shows, though(Gargoyles is my fave).....

I agree - Toon Disney has proven to be far superior than anything the Disney Channel has been able to dish out. I remember when they used to have the Toon Disney promos and I would stop to watch Gargoyles. I think that for their channel to continue to survivie they need to realize that people are sick of getting the same story repackaged with different actors/actresses. I mean seriously, does every series/movie they do have to have everyone becoming best friends by the end? If Disney were to focus on actual life more and give us a show that actually followed real life more than I think I could watch it but the premise of most of their stuff seems almost the same.
I still think Toon Disney needs to take a more CN approach and bring out more original programming - continue the Gargoyles series for late night. Start an all action block in mid-day with new episodes of Darkwing Duck, Ducktales and Buzz Lightyear/Legend of Tarzan along with the Team Atlantis series being brought back and aired. They also need to get rid of stuff like Teachers Pet and use their TV animation studio for something other than DTV releases. I'm sure they could set up a deal like KWB! and CN has - air it first on Toon Disney and than on their ABC One Saturday Morning block or vice-versa.
Of course this is Disney so I don't expect this to ever happen - not until we see Sword in the Stone #48 - Arthur meets Mickey at the Disneyland on Planet Mars.
