On "Saturday Evening Puss" they opted not to redub Mammy's opening lines at all and just have her dressing to go out shown silent. I suppose they figured the scene was pretty self explanitory, and it's still better than the 1960s-redone version that aired for years, with the white teenager (bizarrely with Mammy's voice) drawn in place of her.

Hmm, what was that first opening line? I have never heard it before, even though I've seen that bizarre white woman/Mammy voice version for years.
Regardless, it's nice that CN is still showing the Mammy cartoons. The only Tom and Jerry cartoons I still havent seen are Lonesome Mouse and Sleepy Time Tom. Perhaps CN will air the STT soon.

CN showed SLEEPY TIME TOM sometime late this past September. Perhaps they'll show it again.
I missed Tom and Jerry last night, but I already have SATURDAY EVENING PUSS on tape from their first rare Acme Hour. Nice to hear they showed it though.

I don't think there were any opening lines by Mammy.

Um, Mammy never said anything in the opening scenes. I have the uncensored copy in mint condition. Besides, if there was any muted dialog, wouldn't there be abrupt cuts and a cut in the soundtrack?

I remember there being some singing (or humming) along with the soundtrack in the redrawn version as the teen (mammy) was getting ready to go out.
BTW -- One thing I have noticed on the T&Js that do have the redubbed voice of mammy -- the soundtrack at the outset is slightly muffled in parts, as though part of the audio track has been cut out, which may be the result of the elimination of the vocal track from the film.

Did they edit out "Darktown Strutter's Ball"?
