Matthew started the idea of having a thread where we talk about one specific cartoon and our comments on it, and for this one, I choose HEIR CONDITIONED.

I think it's cartoon is okay. It's kind of a different cartoon, like Sylvester playing Elmer's pet, Elmer wearing a suit instead of his usual hunting outfit and playing a straight role, and the serious parts. I like some parts like the beginning when the neighborhood cats are passing on the rumor that Sylvester inherited the money, and the parts where the cats try to bail Sylvester out. I could've done without the "economy" parts, though.

I probably give it a 6 or 6.5 out of 10.

What are your opinions on it?

Sylvester is a rich cat, courtesy of his deceased mistress, who has left him 3 million dollars. His alley cat friends hope to sponge off his good fortune, and Sylvester is eager to share with them. But Elmer Fudd as Sylvester's new financial advisor lectures him on investing his wealth in business and industry.

I have never seen this cartoon. But it sounds interesting from what I read at the Internet Movie Database.

Well, I don't mind saying that I like "Heir Conditioned". It is easily my favorite of the three "Sloan Foundation" cartoons (the others, of course, being "By Word of Mouse" and "Yankee Dood It"). The new "comedy" bits are funny enough to make it watchable and, IMO, the "serious stuff" doesn't really interfere with the cartoon's enjoyability as it is not really all that heavy-handed and preachy as much as some people may think. It's one of my favorite WB cartoons of 1955.

Daws Butler's voice work really shines in this cartoon, especially at the beginning when the cats are spreading the word about Sylvester's inheiritance.
About a 5 out of 10 for me....

I like this one. It was meant to teach a lesson about economics and investing, it holds up pretty well that respect. I also like the opeing with all of the cats spreading the news and then trying to steal Sylvester's money. I wouldn't call it a great cartoon, but still, what's not to like?
