Two news bites for software enthuasists:

1. NETSCAPE 7.2 -- Netscape finally upgraded. Basically they've fit in a successful Mozilla model into the Netscape browser, and now its on version 7.2. Tabbed browsing and a pop-up blocker bring the thing into the new millenium. Not a huge deal. If you already have Mozilla, don't bother with this. If you haven't tried Mozilla, you might want to give Netscape a spin due to its impressive tools and integration with the AIM client.

Final Say: Historically it has signifigance, but true web surfers will stick with Mozilla products.

2. YAHOO TOOLBAR WITH ANTI-SPY 5.5 -- Yahoo Toolbar gets a perk with a hefty 3MB download that includes a pop-up blocker and anti-spyware scanner. Very impressive for a toolbar. Does a nice job. Its brought to you by the people that have done PestPatrol, a commerical Spyware scanner. Does special searches for tacking cookies as well. Also includes integration into Yahoo services such as email, search, sports, games, and music.

Final Say: While a Google toolbar and Ad-aware do wonders, this makes it ultra convient for web newbies and people that like less clutter. Definately worthy of downloading.

3. WINDOWS XP SP2 -- The second service pack to Windows XP may or may not be worth your efforts. At 270 MB, the size alone could crush many computers. Even with broadband, expect little bit of a wait. Install times can take up to 10 minutes or more. The upside is the new firewall control, the integreated pop-up blocker in IE, and of course the extra security. Most likely it will crash your Auto-update feature (it did mine), so I'm suggesting you get the upgrade on the Developer's Website in a file that auto runs and installs, rather than through the autoupdate.

Final Say: XP users can either love or lump it. No real reason to upgrade if you don't feel like it, but the perks of doing so give you more control of your online experiences. How much of a webhead you are depends on how much you'll want this. To each their own.
