I probably have started this thread before, I don't know. Anyway, here is my question: are any of the Looney Tunes friends? I have seen the Looney Tunes shorts for quite some time, but a majority of the Looney Tunes are just too mean to even have friends. Here is who I think are friends and who are rivals:

Wile E. Coyote: Friends (none)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Road Runner)
Road Runner: Friends (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck)
Tweety: Friends (Hector, Granny, Sylvester)
Rivals (Sylvester)
Speedy Gonzales: Friends (Slowpoke, Daffy Duck)
Rivals (Sylvester, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam)
Marvin Martian: Friends (K-9, The Bombots, Gossamer)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig)
Henry Hawk: Friends (Ollie Owl, Barnyard Dog)
Rivals (Foghorn Leghorn)
Porky Pig: Friends (Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Petunia Pig, Sylvester, Sloopy Moe, Gabby Goat, Charlie Dog)
Rivals (Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Dodo, Charlie Dog)
Sylvester: Friends (Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Sylvester Jr., Tweety)
Rivals (Daffy Duck, Tweety, Hippety Hopper, Speedy Gonzales, Granny, all the bulldogs)
Foghorn Leghorn: Friends (Miss Prissy)
Rivals (Barnyard Dog, Henry Hawk, Miss Prissy, Daffy Duck)
Beaky Buzzard: Friends (Family)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Pete Puma)
Granny: Friends (Tweety, Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, Hector)
Rivals (Sylvester, Hector)
Elmer Fudd: Friends (Barnyard Dog)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck)
Yosemite Sam: Friends (Granny)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Speedy Gonzales)
Tasmanian Devil: Friends (She-Devil)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck)
Gossamer: Friends (Dr. Lorre, Marvin Martian)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig)

And, most of all:

Bugs Bunny: Friends (Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester, Lola Bunny, Relatives and Girlfriends)
Rivals (Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Witch Hazel, Marvin Martian and K-9, Yosemite Sam, Tasmanian Devil, Gossamer, Rocky and Mugsy, Porky Pig, Abominable Snowman)
Daffy Duck: Friends (Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Road Runner, Girlfriends, Relatives besides the Mrs.)
Rivals (Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Witch Hazel, Marvin Martian and K-9, Yosemite Sam, Tasmanian Devil, Gossamer, Rocky and Mugsy, Porky Pig, Abominable Snowman, Sylvester)

Rivals (other) -

Bugs Bunny: Hiawatha, Cecil Turtle, Curt Martin, Ala Bama, Pete Puma, Mr. Gorilla, Casbah, Giovanni Jones, Sir Pantsalot, The Crusher, The Bull, The Laborer, Smidgen, Baby Faced Finster, Dr. Jekyll, Nasty Canasta, Big Bad Wolf, The Count, Black Jacque Shellaque, Gremlin
Daffy Duck: Mac and Tosh, Foghorn Leghorn, Conrad Cat, Speedy Gonzales, Von Vulture, The Stork, Nasty Canasta, Caspar Caveman, Little Beaver, Dr. Jerkyl/Chloe, Mrs. Daffy Duck

Can you guys think of anymore? And, what do you guys think are all the Looney Tunes friends or rivals?

Thanks.

i think they are all friends to a point, just not good friends, they would step on each other to get what they want. so it depends on how you look at it.

Keep in mind that in the "Looney Tunes" cartoons, many characters don't even come in contact with one another, so several of those "friends" listings wouldn't work. Here's how the 14 major characters are usually cast (and Lola Bunny is not included because, no matter how you slice it, she is not a Looney Tunes character - she is a "Space Jam" character):

Bugs Bunny: teamed with Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin the Martian, and the Tasmanian Devil

Daffy Duck: teamed with Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd (once with Marvin the Martian, Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn, Henery Hawk, and the Tasmanian Devil)

Porky Pig: teamed with Daffy Duck and Sylvester

Elmer Fudd: teamed with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (once with the Goofy Gophers)

Sylvester: teamed with Tweety, Porky Pig, Granny, Sylvester Jr., Hippety Hopper, and Speedy Gonzales (once with Foghorn Leghorn and Daffy Duck)

Tweety: teamed with Sylvester and Granny

Pepe le Pew: teamed with Penelope Cat

Yosemite Sam: teamed with Bugs Bunny

Foghorn Leghorn: teamed with Barnyard Dawg, Henery Hawk, Miss Prissy, and Egghead Jr. (once with Daffy Duck and Sylvester)

Road Runner: teamed with Wile E. Coyote

Wile E. Coyote: teamed with Road Runner and Bugs Bunny

Marvin the Martian: teamed with Bugs Bunny (once with Daffy Duck)

Speedy Gonzales: teamed with Sylvester

Tasmanian Devil: teamed with Bugs Bunny (once with Daffy Duck)

Also note that after the 1963-64 shutdown/reopening, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote appeared with Sylvester and Speedy Gonzales once; Speedy, Sylvester, and Granny appeared with Daffy once; Daffy appeared with the Goofy Gophers once; Daffy appeared with Speedy on numerous occasions; both appeared with Witch Hazel once; and Daffy and Porky appeared with Granny once (there was a lot of experimenting during the DePatie-Freleng years).

EDIT: Of course, on most merchandise, everyone is friendly - Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam even put away their guns.

Wait, did you put in that turtle Bugs raced in two epis?

No, but Cecil Turtle was more of a one-shot antagonist, despite the fact that he returned a few times (and it was for three cartoons, by the way). He's up there with Gossamer (two cartoons), Pete Puma (one cartoon), and all those other less frequent Bugs antagonists that would take too long to mention.

Question? Were Fritz, Chuck Jones, and the others friends, or were they so separate, that they didn't work together? Anyone know

Everybody at Termite Terrace was friendly. People would pitch in on any given cartoon, and there was always some kind of prank being pulled (usually a hotfoot or something). Of course, there was a rumor circulating that Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett were once bitter rivals, but I doubt it's true - they just thought differently (Clampett preferred overstatement; Jones liked subtlety).

According to Micheal Barrier's interview with Llyod Turner... Tedd Pierce wasn't very friendly towards him or Bill Scott, as he called them 'juniors' and 'punks'. Well, Tedd Pierce was a heavy smoker and drinker, and Mike Maltese rarely let him out of sight.

Bugs bunny and dafty duck r most certainly friends. they bug and tease and drop heave object on each other they in fact Co-hosts of there shows. the represent all the other looneytunes and wb characters. Say if they all had a looney tune(WB) toontown world Bugs would be president and and dafy would be vice P. Like disney Mickey and Donald co host (dito) same thing. In the End they do pull through for each other. Watch space jam if u want to see how they pull through for each other or back in action to see who is friend or foe.

"Space Jam" is not the best example of a well-characterized Bugs and Daffy - in that movie, all the Looney Tunes are very flat characters who are incredibly out of their element on a basketball court that they don't even belong on. I judge by the original cartoons, and in many of those, Bugs and Daffy were hardly friendly - for crying out loud, Daffy was constantly trying to get Bugs shot. I don't know why people insist on having the Looney Tunes be friends anyway - they were supposed to represent the personalities of real people, and real people are not all friendly all the time.

On a more serious note, I also can't see how the WB characters are meant to be 'friendly'. It really depends on film to film. The best example of this is in the Porky/Daffy cartoons, as in "Porky And Daffy", "Porky's Last Stand" and "Tick, Tock, Tuckered", they were friends, while they were enemies in "My Favorite Duck", "Duck Soup To Nuts" and "Boobs In The Woods" (looking at this, its seems that in every Porky and Daffy cartoon that McKimson directed, they were enemies, while in most Clampett cartoons, they were friends).

I've always seen the Daffy in the hunting trilogy to be trying to trick Bugs into being shot, he's still crazy. It's not much different to the constant times he tricked Porky or whoever.

Exactly - the Looney Tunes aren't characters, they're actors, and they adapt whatever role they need for the cartoon they're in. For instance, Sylvester - he goes from being a desperate, hungry housecat in the Tweety cartoons to an overconfident father in the Sylvester Jr./Hippety Hopper series to a craven coward in his Porky Pig series to a flat-out villain in "The Scarlet Pumpernickel". That's where "Space Jam" failed and "Back in Action" succeeded - how they portrayed the characters.

Yeah, it all really depands on the cartoon. For example, you could probably say that Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are friends, but on the other hand you can say they're enemies. Porky's been cast as a pal of Daffy's, and he's also hunted Daffy with a shotgun! There are also those great late 40's and early 50's cartoons by Robert McKimson where Daffy's neither friend nor foe to Porky, he just shows up and annoys him.

J.B. Warner also brings up a valid point that the characters are more like "actors" than anything else. They can do virtually anything and be placed in any setting alongside any other character, and then it goes from there.

Overtime all of the Loony Tunes have been friends and enemies with everyone.
