Brendon Small reveals the features:
We just finished the special features for the Home Movies Season 1 DVD!
We recorded a lot of commentary tracks, and i think they turned out pretty funny. Also there will be on camera interviews myself, Jon Benjamen (JAson, McGuirk) and co coreator Loren Bouchard- I also included some of my own actual Home Movies that I've been working on recently that I think you'll enjoy including a fake guitar instructional video called the "Thor Von Clemson Advanced Fast Hand Finger Wizard Master Class" Also I included a fantastic "Horse Documentary" That I think you'll find rather interesting (you'lll know what I mean when you get the DVD. . .)

This sounds great! :D
This DVD required no extras for me to buy it so all this is just (very sexy) icing on a (very sexy) cake.

Commentaries are usually my favorite special feature on DVDs, so I'm glad to hear that there's a lot of them on there. I hope they have them on every episode (it sounds like they do, but you never know). The interviews should be good, too. As for the other stuff, that'll probably be funny, but you really can't tell until you see it.
One feature I had always wanted would be movie commentaries from Brendon, Jason, and Melissa. Maybe next time.
I really can't wait for this. Thanks for the info, HMF.

One feature I had always wanted would be movie commentaries from Brendon, Jason, and Melissa. Maybe next time. It's funny you mentioned this...back when my site was just beginning and only 3 people visited it (instead of the 5 it gets now), I had a poll about potential DVD extras and this option won by a lot.
So I e-mailed Brendon via his website and mentioned the poll and suggested it for an extra. His reply:
funny,
we tried to do that but it ended up costing too much- we were very
upset.
it was going to be a film fest where brendon (the character) would give
commentary on all his movies.
we'll definitely try to do it on season 2!
thanks a lot for everything LANDSTANDER!!!!!!!!!!
brendonSo hopefully it'll get on the next one. =(

Very interesting. I'm having trouble picturing what he's describing, though, and why it would be too expensive. The only reason for the expense that I can think of would be if this film festival thing he describes is like an animated short thing.
While that would be very, very cool, it doesn't sound like they have the cash to do it right now. I was just thinking about an audio commentary track with the existing "movie" footage from the show. The movies could just be cut and pasted together on to one extra feature. Again, the film festival thing would be ideal, but if they just don't have the cash for it, I'd be happy with this.
The characters could all take it very seriously, too, immitating real commentaries: "Hello, this is Brendon, I wrote, directed and produced this movie." "Uh, this is Jason, I play the monster, the cop, and the fat villager." Or they could moan about the dialogue of their earlier movies, or talk about how long it took to get a shot right. Letting the actors ad-lib about the movies would produce some hilarious results.
Hopefully the first season will sell really well and they'll have enough money to put a feature like this together using all the movies from the first two seasons. That would be great, too. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
(On a side note, it saddens me deeply that Brendon Small uses ten exclamation points to end a sentence :( )

I am so jealous of you, Landstander. I wish Brendon Small would e-mail me.
Then again, I don't have a wonderfully wonderful Home Movies site or really any reason to e-mail Brendon. Except I do want to be his friend. But. How weird would that e-mail be? Dear Brendon. I want to be your friend. Love, Hannah. Yeah.
Or...maybe I should try that....
This DVD is going to keep me inside the house most of...forever. The only time I'm going to leave is to go to school.
I seriously can't wait for it to come out. They're will be information on brendonsmall.com on how to pre-order, soon. So. YAY!
(On a side note, it saddens me deeply that Brendon Small uses ten exclamation points to end a sentence :( )I'm glad it saddened someone else. =[

The whole email looks like it was writen in around 15 seconds, though that's completely undersandable given how many emails he must get, so I don't mind.

This is such amazingly good news, I can't even tell you. Though, to be honest, I'd be happy if the DVD had no extras. Just being able to have all of any season of Home Movies is an instant happy pill for me.
As to why it would be more expensive to have more people in the commentaries, I'm curious, too. At a wild guess (having NO understanding of what's involved in production), I'm wondering if additional audio tracks add to the expense. I can't imagine it would, but as I say, I have no idea.
In any event, yay! for DVD season sets. http://img25.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/smile_eager.gif May Mr Small sell many, many copies.

It's been a long time since I've seen the squiggle-vision episodes. I don't remember if they were as funny as the new ones, but I'll probably still get it since Home Movies really is a great show.
