View Full Version : Is the Teen Titans Robin super powered?

The reason I ask is because I havent seen a lot of Teen Titans episodes but I have seen Robin on a few occations kicking the crap out of the Cinderblock character. Someone who comes off to me as being super strong and invulnerable. But apparently despite all that Robin is physically able to best him which shouldnt be possible. Kicking the guy should be like kicking a concrete wall yet Robin is able to do damage. Someone clue me in.

No he doesnt have powers, but you know how they do most of these Powerless super heroes... you know they try to make them so they are the ultimate fighter.

Well, if you wanna get technical to back it up, we can say he has padded gloves, and it kinda does look that way.

But its a cartoon and he's the leader of the titans, so what can we really say?

Well, Teen Titans tends to exaggerate many things, so we'll chalk it up to trying to keep him on-par with the other Titans.

yea - like new moon said, when its 1 non super-powered person on a team w/ all of these other super-powered people, they're gonna wanna make him look good. and beleive me - they really REALLY make Robin look really good for a hero who doesn't have any super powers. You can also see a lot of traits of Batman in Robin's TT character.

and it also helps a lot that his fellow Teen Titan characters aren't exactly "Supermen". Their powers are surprisingly limited. lemme break it down.

Cyborg - super strength; energy blasts from mechanical arm
Beat Boy - change into any animal
StarFire - fly; radiation blasts
Raven - dark telekentic; can create optical illusions; telepath?

so yea - the only really complex character when it comes to powers is raven. but, other than that, Robin can actually stand his own pretty well if given the right script :)

Well the JL Batman is powerless and we dont see him pounding the crap out of anybody who is way beyond him in strength like Mongul and Kalibak. If Batman had hit or kicked those guys he would have broken something.

However TT Robin probably would have done some twerling kick and sent them flying.

I always found that the most irksome thing about Teen Titans--how Robin can kick Cinderblock around. Really...just not believeable. Neither is most of the stuff (see: "Fractured"), but that just really bothers me...

Maybe his steel-toed boots increase his foot power ten fold like the Batman Beyond suit. :p

TT Robin is kind of like an anime hero.

No I'm not joking. I mean the TT crew are anime fans right?

That's also something I've had a problem with. Robin being uberfied.

He can knock Cinderblock around, leap dozens of stories in a single bound, jump from cybornetic robotic ninja to cybornetic robotic ninja without touching the ground, and do any number of different things with his semi godlike capabilities...and yet he can barely hold back Starfire when she wants to knock on Raven's door to see how she is.

Yeah, it doesn't quite add up...but whatever.

Come on, it's Teen Titans, people! You know, the same show that had Mad Mod and Larry and even a talking green alien dog? Why ask questions? :D

I don't mind Uber-Robin, but the Cinderblock thing always did bother there. That just snaps the already stretched suspension of disbelief and I just go, "Oh, come one!" but that the only thing I have a problem with. Otherwise, I love Uber Robin! I mean look at it this way: for years, in the public eye Robin was always seen as a dorky side kick. Now, he's finally breaking free of that, and gets to be a total badass and I love it! :D

A martial artist damaging bricks and cinderblocks? Doesn't seem too strange to me, it's like...what they train to do all the time. I mean if this was megaman and robin and cinderblock were two of the bosses, I'd guess that his power(karate chop action) would be cinderblock's weakness.

Yeah, i mentioned this in a post a few months ago. In an episode i saw, he was jumping incredibly heights, sitting on vertical pedestals...he looked like freakin' spider-man...and considering he's supposed to be non-powered, it does stretch the suspension of disbelief.

It's cool to see him do all this stuff, but it just seems out of character.

So for everyone who always asks, "why don't you like teen titans?", well this is one of the reasons. In JL, batman doesn't have any super powers, and they don't show him doing nearly the amount of ridiculous things robin does in TT.

That scene was clearly a joke not meant to be taken seriously (& I seriously doubt we will see something like that again, now that it's been established how strong Robin is).

That scene was clearly a joke not meant to be taken seriously (& I seriously doubt we will see something like that again, now that it's been established how strong Robin is).Yeah, but Star is a lot stronger than Robin, anyway - I mean, she can lift cars and stuff, can't she? I kind of remember her holding back a ship from moving...I just remember her being very strong physically...but I could be wrong...

Besides, I think it made sense, anyway, even if Starfire isn't that physically strong, considering I don't think Robin would ever use that much force on Star because he'd never want to end up hurting her.

Either way, it was still meant to be funny, so I don't think it should be looked into too much, anyway - and the whole show is so wacky, anyway, that Robin's uber-powers shouldn't be taken too seriously, either. I mean, I admit, me and my sister always laugh when Robin is able to kick Cinderblock in the head and knock him out, but it wouldn't be fun and zany Teen Titans otherwise. :anime:

Oh yeah, I know the issue is clear but lets remember its two diffrent universes.

Yeah, it's like you'll see the same super-strength from Raven if ever Beast Boy accidentally walks into her morning shower, then she punches him straight to the moon. :D

I wouldn't say super-powered but he's definitely on the high end of the mortal scale in terms of agility and combat prowess, I've seen some professional martial artists break cinderblocks with their hands and feet (and head occasionally) so him kicking the crap out of Cinderblock isn't that far-fetched, it's really a matter of balance and predicting your opponent's moves while you redirect their force and apply their own and since Cindy's nothing BUT pure brute force at the expense of all intelligenceis it any wonder the only time the blockhead actually held his own against Robin was when Slade was in control of his/her body

Well, for what it's worth, Starfire does have super strength. I never recalled her ever lifting a car, but she's strong enough to smash them (ala Date with Destiny)

Starfire can easily kick the stone out of Cinderblock as well. So I don't think it's far featched at all...

Poor Cinderblock, gets no love from nobody! :(

Why is it when the Titans fights things like Cinderblock or that combo monster in Aftershock 2, Robin only gets tossed around ever so lightly, while the other Titans seemed to get slammed into buildings, trees, concrete and other things like that.

You could always just chalk it up to larry helping out his favorite hero ever so discretely...well...I guess he really doesn't work discretely..

Well, there was one episode of Justice League where Batman was fighting that hairy Superman villain. Batman was able to grab his arm when he tried punching him. Batman should not have been able to do that. Anybody who can get into a fight with Superman and live should NOT be able to be beaten up by Batman.

Batman didnt "beat" him. He just tossed him which is a lot more in the realm of posibility if the person isnt trying to resist (which Kalibak wasnt).
