View Full Version : What is the official policy on thread resurrection?

I know that from time to time, we'll see a thread resurrected, and sometimes it even becomes somewhat amusing in a bizarre way (case in point, the "wotcher" thread). But what about a large number of these instances in a short period?

On August 21 & 22 alone, a certain member (not even a newbie!) resurrected threads that had been "dead" as of the following dates:

- Feb. 23, 2003
- Feb. 30, 2003
- Apr. 1, 2003
- May 11, 2003
- Jul. 3, 2003
- Aug. 29, 2003
- Sept. 6, 2003
- Oct. 6, 2003
- Oct. 30, 2003
- Feb. 15, 2004
- Apr. 9, 2004

It can be fun to see a thread you'd forgotten about come back once in while, but this example makes one wonder about the motivation behind it. Is it a case of extreme boredom? Revenge? Unoriginality? :p

Unoriginality? :pthis question has been asked so much, gob. why didn't you just resurrect one of the older threads instead :p

this actually seems to be a hot topic as some members don't care if a thread is resurrected whilst other members are completely opposed to it. as for myself, i don't mind if some threads are resurrected, as long as they can still be of use. case in point, the drawing board thread where we discuss what tools we use when we draw. that is a good thread. a bad thread would be where an artist posted their work back in 2002 or 2003 and somebody resurrects the thread just to say "that is so cool!!!11!!"

Oh you... *shaking fist* Haha.

And don't you just hate it when someone replies and they include the entire post of the person they're replying to? ;)

Seriously, though, I think we feel the same way about it, GK. I did like seeing the "tools" thread again, too. I just felt like pointing out how much this went on by one person in a span of two days. This thread isn't made out of annoyance, just curiosity and amusement.

IMHO Most threads should not be resurected. (although I personally love the Wotcher thread.)

What about old Talkbacks?

You'll find that most mods are in the school of "If you can add something meaningful to the conversation, resurrection is good. If you can't... don't do it"

Talkback threads are the example of threads that should be resurrected. If not, then on the Entertainment Forum, what's the use of having all the Movie talkbacks archived in one spot for quick and easy access if you aren't gonna be allowed to revive it?

As was said earlier... it's all about the content being added. If you are adding meaningful discussion to the thread, then, by all means, go for it. If you just plan on saying "You ROXORZ!!!1!1!11!one" then you'll very likely end up getting a warning.
