Just wondering... the disc is out at Best Buy and Target and such, but...
... has anyone else had problems with the "Crack the Case" game on the episode "Weapon of Choice"? I never saw the lock pop up to take the quiz...

I did it, but I can't remember where it was...it was around halfway through.
I think it was Around the point where Conan makes the little device that clues Richard in that the killer used a fishing rod.

I have a question. Does anyone know when the lock appears in The Big Shrink and Fish Marks the Spot?

By the way, Knux... you own both DVDs right? Could you "clue" (pun intended) me in on if they keep the "Next Conan's Hint" segments on the DVDs? And are the OPs and EDs creditless? And the ED on the first Season 1 DVD... does it have clips from the episode it follows (the original Japanese version had clips from the episode that just aired)? Someone on Anime on DVD says it doesn't.

I have a question. Does anyone know when the lock appears in The Big Shrink and Fish Marks the Spot? There is a lock in The Big Shrink, though I don't remember exactly when it shows up... Sometime when everyone's standing around on the coaster platform, trying to figure out who did it. ;)
Fish Marks the Spot doesn't seem to have one at all - on the main menu, there isn't a lock icon next to that episode - so I think there may be a standard of only three 'crack the cases' per DVD or something.
Even though I wasn't asked, here's some more info on the DVDs...
Yes, the 'Next Conan's Hiiint' was kept in the first DVD, though noticeably there wasn't one after 'The Mist Goblin Murder Case', either parts one or two. I believe it started up again after the last episode, 'Weapon of Choice', though I don't recall what the clue was. n_n; I'm not positive on that, however.
The OPs And EDs are available creditless on both DVDs as well, as a special feature - the images are the same for each episode though... There aren't clips that change from case to case on the first DVD or anything. The only gripe I have about it is the fact that even though there is a new OP shown on the second DVD, they stuck the first one under 'creditless opening' instead. ;p
An interesting thing is the way the episodes are laid out... I'm sure this is how it was originally, but instead of the 'wrap-up' 30 seconds or so at the end of each case appearing before the credits, you need to actually watch the credits and then see the last snippet of the show. Followed by the next episode preview and Conan's Hint. ;)

I couldn't get the Crack the Case to work on "Weapon of Choice" either, no matter how many times I pressed enter.
The one thing I thought was odd was that "Mist Goblin Murder" had the first opening, but "Weapon of Choice" had the second. I'm sure the intro changed before 53 originally, so that seems odd to do it that way.

My DVD player (a Emerson) kept playing the locks without my telling it to and it froze up at least twice while I was trying to access the game. However, it did allow me to play the game in the end (check your email ;) ).

I'm sure the intro changed before 53 originally, so that seems odd to do it that way.Well actually 53 looks to be the last use of OP 2. ASF version of OP 2 is actually the OP that goes with this episode! I LOL when I noticed that. So now the big question is why Funimation decided to use OP 1 with it instead. Actually CN never showed OP 2 either (Or ED 2 but ED 2 is listed as not being on this episode to begin with) so I'm wondering what the problem might be with OP 2. I personally don't think Funi left OP 2 off for no good reason, seeing they actually made custom OP 1 openings for the show to replace OP 2. My guess is there's some sort of clearance problem but there's no way to be sure what's going on until Funi says something about it.

The OP/ED situation on the Case Closed DVDs boggles the mind.
Check ASF for rants about what I had to do to make a HQ version of the first intro and ending.
Personally, I don't really care about the OP issue, as the 2nd OP sucks (they really need to give Stephanie Nadolmy some better songs to sing for), and I'm obsessed with the 1st OP (I've replayed the opening scenes from Episode 1 about 12 times in a row).
Dammit, FUNi, release a FULL version! I don't care if it's a CD or an mp3, just do it!

The OP/ED situation on the Case Closed DVDs boggles the mind.
Check ASF for rants about what I had to do to make a HQ version of the first intro and ending. It really is baffling just why FUNI didn't put on the individual custom OPs on V1,D1  . That said, I took a look at your fixed verison and to be honest I'm not sure that ending you tagged on to the end (the one off the VHS tape) is really correct. That bump looks like it might be a network tag and if it is, it would never be on the DVD version because network tags usually don't show up on them unless the show is produced by the network [Some semi useless triva: in the U.S. the networks actually own the tags and commercials they run with the shows they air (with a few exceptions), so the show producers have to pay the networks if they want to use those on their DVD's]. Still, I do seem to remember a simlar tag on the first OP they used with V4, D1 in the Japanese language angle (which seems to been created from scratch by FUNI out of OP 1  ), so goodness knowns what's going on with that.TylerL :anime: ]
Dammit, FUNi, release a FULL version! I don't care if it's a CD or an mp3, just do it!Suggestion: Radio Shack . One way to do it would be to hook up a stereo tape recorder with the correct plug-ins and adaptors to the TV set (which is a stereo DVD/TV combo), tape it, then hook up to the computer and cut it as a MP3 (even easier would be to just skip the tape recorder part and just hook it direct to the computer). Just for the record I also like the ED1 and OP/ED 3 songs in English (but where oh where is OP/ED?).
Oh and KuwabaraTheMan, your mail bounced

Was just comparing it to AS's episode-layout.

But then I'd only get the short version. I wouldn't get the 3:00+ version, which FUNi needs to release NOW.
Also, I had no problems with the "Crack the Case" game on Weapon of Choice.

I liked the DVDs. On sale for 10 bucks, I picked up Deadly Illusions. The Crack the Case games worked for me just fine. I love that Funimation does outtakes, same with in Fruits Basket, but I wish that they'd show the actual clip with the dialogue as opposed to the random still shots. And I guess this is jut being picky, but the font used in the character bios/Crack the Case info is really tiny. It's a bit of a pain.
It seems like this is how the openings were in the Japanese version, but cutting to the logo and then having the song fade out midsentance is really annoying.
Oh, word to the wise: Do not listen to the first opening theme in Japanese. I'm not sure when I'll recover.. .
If the DVDs continue to be this cheap, I'll definitely pick out my favorite episodes and some of the new ones.
The outtakes are pretty fun (much better than in FLCL), and I like some of the made-up stuff (such as Rachel's "And Conan, if you get lonely, wake me up and I'll keep you company" line).

Here's a question: Who's doing the subtitles? Steven "Daimao" Simmons? Clyde Mandelin?
You know, there's one thing that isn't talked about all that much, but I must congradulate FUNimation about: Chapter Stops. There's many chapter stops per episode, of which I am very happy about. For those who are clueless, Chapter stops are where the DVD picks back up after hitting "Fast forward"/"Next Scene."
Typical anime DVD Chapter Stops:
-Opening
-Part A
-Part B
-Ending
-Preview
Sometimes it's different (The Zoids DVDs have no Ending/Preview chapter stops), but usually this is how it is.
Case Closed DVD Chapter Stops:
-Opening
-Prologue/Title Screen
-Part A
-Part B
-Part C
-Ending
-Epilogue
-Preview/Next Conan's Hint
I must say I LOVE that there's so many chapter stops. Keep it up, FUNi!
