Upload *YOUR* art work to Toon Zone!
How you ask? Why, it's easier than ordering a pizza from your favorite Pizza Place! It's so easy that your two year old nephew could do it... It's... the Toon Zone Anonymous FTP!
Yes, that's right! Following these easy steps, you too can have your pic housed on Toon Zone, thus getting rid of the trouble and hassle of having to link from external sites such as GeoCities.
1. Set your FTP program to log into ftp.toonzone.net
2. For user name, enter anonymous
3. For Password, enter your email address (me@host.com)
Now that you are in... upload your files to the INCOMING directory... it's as easy as that!
to link to your files from the message board, use the following to link to your image:
http://www.toonzone.net/incoming/Your_File_Name.EXT
Now wasn't that easy... But, please keep in mind, we will be policing this folder constantly... and abuse of this could lead to removal of the system.

I don't even know what FTP means...can someone help?

It stands for "File Transfer Protocol," similar to how HTTP stands for "HyperText Transfer Protocol." It's basically just a method for transferring data from one place to another. In this instance, from the artist's computer to TZ's incoming directory.

Colin. I cannot get this thing to work. I click on the highlighted site you posted, and it tells me. The page I am looking for cannot be found. Is there anything else you can suggest, because I have some drawings here I think are pretty good and I would like to get others opinons on them.
Holla!

If you have firewall restrictions you may not be able to get ftp to work (been there before. If you need a place for image files and can't get it here go to www.imagemagician.com

A good site is Deviant Art (http://www.deviantart.com). It's an art site anyway, and you can upload as much as you want there. Just link to the image in a post or something.

Erm ... I'm having a bit of a problem with the FTP server. Whenever I try to upload my art files to it, I get the message "Anonymous users are not permitted to overwrite existing files" ... even though I'm by no means attempting to do so.
Weird ... Can someone help?

Nope, it's not working for me either (although it used to). . . sigh. . . Maybe with the upgrade we aren't allowed to use it anymore. Ah, well.

A shame. Well, at least DeviantART (http://www.deviantart.com) is still working, and it provides a nice alternative.

Hmmm strange happenings. I go to the FTP but I can't see anywhere where I can get an account but there is this incoming directortory thing and there I can view everything that has been uploaded. Freaky.
Now then
I've recently had trouble uploading my pics to my MSN group. When I clicked 'add Photo' it just went to a white screen. This went on, until I decided to just get a new group. I uploaded 1 pic to that and now its gone and done the same thing. I've tried refreshing the page but it doesn't do anything.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a way to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

The DarkKnight - I think it was a momentary flutter, though I am not sure... Try it again. :)
The Red Bird - I think its MSN. They are probably having problems or upgrading the system. Try it again in a little while :)

You do have to join. But it is free (one of the few free sites left, unfortunately).

Side7 (http://www.side7.com/) is free as long as you're willing to put up with the restrictions. If you want absolute unlimited uploads tho, you gotta pay a fee.

Well, first you need a place to store the images... like youre one web server or places like DeviantART (where a lot of people here use) or Side 7.
After they are uploaded, you can either post the URL of where the image is, or have it directly show up in here by clicking the http://forums.toonzone.net/images/blue/editor/insertimage.gif button up top on the console and inputing the URL there.
Its rather simple :)

Be careful with deviantART, people. There's a chance that people can use your artwork commercially without asking your permission. (Though you can track them down and sue.)
Copyright all your work!

I think you run the risk of having that happen no matter where you go on the web. The key is to protect yourself as always, whether it being registering with the copyright office or even doing the poor mans copyright. Just be careful what you post is all... the same advice anyone can give when posting something up on the web. :)

I know, when I went to DevianART, I knew about the risk or having my art stolen. So I decided to keep my really good ideas at home while I post up really good random stuff and if there was something I really like I just slapped on "Copyright 2003/2004 by Sierra M. Jackson".(I'm not sure if that would work but it was worth a try. )

I really suggest using www.gazler.com (http://www.gazler.com) Its free signup, and you get unlimited space. I think I shouldnt have posted the link here, because a billion people will sign up, then the guys bandwidth will go POW. Then hell put a limit on the amount of pictures you can upload >:( But I dont care, I have my own site with unlimited space and bandwidth ^_^

First, welcome to the DB, Sesshosgurl! You may want to post a hello message in the Introduce Yourself To The Drawing Board (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=72451) thread as well to get a proper welcome. :)
Its always a good rule of thumb to post URLs of images in a thread for people to see and then either including your site in the post or in your sig. Just posting your site URL is considered spamming, really, and is rather frowned down upon in here. We want to see the artwork, but it doesnt do you any justice to just post the URL to your site... Posting URLs of individual pictures tends to get you much better results :)
Hope this helps! :D

I know this is probably a "duh" kind of thing, but just about anyone that has an ISP can get free web space from them, right? Mine, for example, offers a generous 10mb!
Do what I did: while I don't use the space for an actual website, I recently got FTP information from them and now have a directory full of pictures. Plus, they're hotlinkable! :D I'm no computer guru, but with a little help, setting it up was incredibly easy and makes me wish I'd have done it a long time ago.

That is an interesting point, GOB. If I recall, however, you basically trade space for a website in exchange for e-mail space. You basically put your site in the same server space where your e-mail is stored and you are stuck with the same amount of space no matter what. I learned that from AT&T Worldnet service as well as a couple others. I am by no means deterring people from doing it, but just be careful and learn all you can from your ISP about that.

Hmm...never heard anything about that. I just check my e-mail account directly at their site (http://www.thunderstar.net) and I was never told anything about that. I get 10mb anyway, so size shouldn't be a problem for a long time. If I ever get curious, though, I guess I can ask them.

If you live in Poland, stay away from the WP.PL free webpages. Yeah they give you a free e-mail account, but you cannot hotlink the pictures, which is a bliatch. You can't even get yourself a banner, not mentioning what we are doing here.
