New Monk last night.

Mr. Monk Takes his Medicine

After Stottlemeyer is shot Monk realizes his OCD is keeping him from being happy. Dr. Krogger perscribes him medication which soon makes him TOO happy. And without his quirks Monk isn't the greatest detective in the world.

A surprisingly serious episode. The scene with Monk talking to Trudy and her telling him she only wants him to be happy made me cry.

Anybody else want to comment?

I wasn't really impressed with this one. The joke of "Monk doing things Monk would never do" was pretty funny at first, then less funny, then kind of annoying...by the time he was in the pool it was kind of depressing.

Trudy scene was nice though (I also liked when "The Monk" tried to get the same effect by sniffing the pillow and couldn't pull it off).

The seriousness of this episode was weird and then the joke itself was sort of... eh. The best part was his trying to order his burger.

An okay episode.

This is only the third or fourth episode I have seen of Monk and even though I enjoyed it, it didn't feel like Monk too me. It was too sad, I'm used to him being insane making me laugh, not sob.

Overall I thought it was good though. I still can't believe I'm going to have to wait untill January for the next batch of episode though. =[

i think the only reason he took the medicine is because he was depressed, in many ways this episode was more realistic than some of the others.

Good drama, I really liked the scene in the psychiatrist's office. It's good to be reminded that OCD is a real disability, not just an eccentric behavior to be tolerated. It's often my biggest complaint that they treat the subject much too lightly. Poking some humor at the behavior is fine and appropriate but completely disregarding it as a joke is not. The one two weeks ago with the infuriating Vernita really pissed me off, here's a person who call herself a nurse who has absolutely no freaking compassion or respect for her patient, it really enraged me.

So the biggest detraction of the episode was the mostly flippant way they dealt with his cure. I understand it had to be funny but it was a bit much. But only slightly. His considering reaction to the ketchup on his shirt and the sadness after the kids ditched him in the pool were good subtle moments that worked. It was bit of a cop-out to throw away the pills though. It gives the impression that because of one extremely bad reaction medication should never be considered again.

What really the case was good, the motive for shooting at a cop, finding the note on the placemat, the car chase and watergun staredown were all great.
