i heard a long time ago(a little after prime was released) a metroid movie was in the works. gamespot.com even had a poll for who would be the best person to play samus. i haven't heard anything since then.

It's rumored that John Woo may direct. I think I heard that he had expressed interest in it, but at this point I think all news regarding the movie is still rumor mill stuff. I could be wrong on that, but I don't think anything is definite yet.

If it were to happen, I really hope they don't give Samus any dialogue. I think it might be interesting if they try to capture the feel of the games in the movies. This would mean lots of atmosphere, a feeling of lonliness, great music, and little to no talking. It would be extremely tough to keep the interest of an audience this way, but I'd like to see if someone could pull it off.

In the end, though, I think it might be better to not make a Metroid movie. It's been said that the Alien movies were a huge influence on the Metroid games. That's fine, since games and movies aren't the same medium. But with a Metroid moive, you essentially have a movie based off another set of movies. I don't know if the Alien series is really old enough for a "re-imagining" just yet. A Metroid movie would probably be different enough to distinguish itself from the Alien films, but it would still probably be similar enough to lack the impact that the original Alien had.

It could be worse.

Uwe Boll could have directed it.

I don't see it happening, because you know some clown will think that audiences need all action heros to spit out predictable and uninteresting one-liners as they do nifty things.

Ooops! My cynicism is showing.

But not as much as ProtoDudes. :D

The old school Woo was. Not the reformed MI:2 Woo.

I really don't think a movie without dialogue would work. And since Samus is like the only character in the games, I think the movie would have to add A LOT of characters, most of which would be killed off during the course of the movie, just like Aliens...

Because, if I didn't tell that earlier, M:I-2 is a horrid piece of crap.
I think Anderson would make something watchable, RE wasn't bad (not counting a whole new storyline - even those Umbrella commandos were looking like Hunk at the beginning...), the first MK either.

I really don't think a movie without dialogue would work.I don't think Schnay meant no dialogue what so ever. Just that Samus doesn't have any lines. With the proper script, it could definately work.

When Schnay first mentioned her not speaking, the first thing that popped into my mind was The Prisoner episode, Many Happy Returns. Which for almos the entire show, had no spoken dialogue. (And it was just as fascinating and interesting as all the other episdes.) And now I'm thinking Kubricks 2001. How much dialogue was in that? Not a whole lot, that's for certain.

And since Samus is like the only character in the games, I think the movie would have to add A LOT of charactersThat's probably what they'll do, but I don't think it's necessary.

Just off the cuff, I'd attack it like this: Add some joes discussing her recruitment, the sort of fighter/explorer/whatever you want to call her she is, discuss the problem, see some scenes of former teams who went and what information they were able to gather... generic scifi stuff... and then the rest of the movie, for the most part, no dialogue, just watching her do her thing in space, landing, exploring, fighting, blah blah blah... if she's sending in reports, then cut to scenes of the above mentioned joes/scientists/whoever recieving reports and discussing them. See, they'd be the exposition, explaining to the audience what the perils are, as if they couldn't tell that Samus is in danger every moment, anyway.

good thoughts, guin, but actually i'd like to see a movie which starts off with samus being raised by the chozo. there's plenty of characters there. also, we'll get a look at samus like we've never seen before

No. Hell no. I hate Anderson more then...ANYTHING on Earth. He has to be the worst director of all time. But that probably has something to do with the fact that he's a whore director who mostly working on franchise projects. But even his original movies, like Dark Horizon suck.

Give me John Woo's over the top, and nonsensical style, then Paul Anderson's poor directing.

The best Samus, imo, would be Liv Tyler.
