The trailer for the upcoming Scooby-Doo live-action movie (ahead of 'Harry Potter') plays with the audience- it's meant to look like a tease for a Batman flick. The WB logo dissolves into a moon with bats flying out of it, the narrator talks about a hero who protects the innocent, the camera pans up to a silhouette of a dark figure with pointed ears. Turns around and it's Scooby.

They outta be ashamed! Playing with our sensitivites like that! Just one more reason to avoid this movie at all possible costs! It's obviously so weak on it's own, they need to put a gimmick from another movie in the trailer to lure people in. I say this movie is coming off as something that will more than likely be utterly forgettable.

I can't believe they're desperate enough to do this. They must have no confidence in the movie.

Ahhh, it's just a joke. I don't think that we should start attacking the movie just because they decided to do a little Batman gag. If you're going to start criticizing it by the ads for it, at least wait until they contain enough material to be somewhat representative of the movie.

At least it sounds different than all the other trailers with the same announcer and formula.

You're right. Austin Powers 2 started out making you think it was a Star Wars Episode 1 trailer (but I could forgive that, since we got to see the Episode 1 trailer right after that!) so I guess the Batman gag isn't so horrible. But when you've been waiting for a new Batman movie as long as we have.....it's almost cruel! But I am sure the movie alone will be worth enough ridicule so we can forget about the cruel, cruel trailer then!

I'm sorry, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne? Daphne is harmlessly bubbly; SMG is a vampire exterminator? I don't think the movie is worth it!

If it gets mainstream audiences thinking about Batman again, I'm not complaining.

AH, but you forget that the character Buffy was also originally bubbly, before she developed, thanks to (gasp!) good writing. SMG can play ditz. Watch Scream.
I think it's clever. Even if it's poking fun at something so sacred as (gasp!) Batman. I guess fans are notorious for their lack of a sense of humor :p

Mind you, I'm not promoting the movie, I hate it as much as anyone else.

Never mind all that! SMG's too damn short to be playing Daphne.Granted,Daphne was no basketball player, but she was taller than SMG.
And the fact that her talentless fiance is playing Fred is another reason to boycott this movie.

It's paid for, and they make a killing off of cross merchandising. It's all about money, my friend, plain and simple.

It's just a joke, folks. No need to get all miffed over a small gag. I doubt I'll be seeing the movie anyways - so it doesn't really matter. And I agree with Hatter - if it gets live action Batman (in a positive way) back on the minds of audiences - no complaints here.

Now, I love "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" (being of exactly the generation that grew up when it was being produced), but the more I hear about this film the more I want to avoid it.
Besides, how could it possibly improve on the sequence in J&SBSB? :D

The trailer is online at moviefone.com. Even the background music echoes the Elfman Batman themes.

Hey, at least the scooby trailer didn't spoof Batman using the Joel Schumaucher version.

Can you imagine...Scooby with huge nipples? Fred and Shaggy walking around topless and buff. Daphne and Zelma wearing layers upon layers of clothes and blowing phermones around? *Shudders*
This Fish hates Scooby Doo and used to cry when it was on TV because it's mother wanted it to watch the Scooby Doo show!
...So I guess I have some deep trauma I need to work with.
And now they are also messing with Batman...Can somebody tell me what kind of world we live in where a pointy eared goofy dog gets all of Batmans press? This City needs an enema!

I thought the trailer was pretty funny, but then I've always loved Scooby. :) I have little hope that this movie will come close to the original animation in (dare I say) quality - but I'll probably catch it on dvd.

The movie will come close to the original animation in quality? If you're talking about animation quality, it's already been succeeded... they've spent more than $22 on the movie so far.
I know, that's a cheap shot at Hanna-Barbara's trademark "limited animation..." :)

i think the gag'll be funny. Did you see the animated Scooby eppisode with Batman and Robin? That was cheasy, and Bats/Bird Boy were horrible, but it was funny.
