View Full Version : Why Oh Why Does Everyone Hate the Mountain Time Zone?

Not directly related to Adult Swim, but indirectly so, as it is what prompted me to start this thread...

As I was saying, why oh why does everyone hate the Mountain Time Zone?

Someone, somewhere, no doubt in some New York office decided it would be a great idea to offset the showing of shows on a variety of networks, including CN. So they pushed things back three hours for the poor ol' mountain region. So stuff that airs at 8pm EST won't be shown here in Colorado until 11pm EST. :( I understand the whole "moms up in arms about AS being on at 9pm when they're tucking their kids in" or whatever crap they try to throw around, but couldn't they at least have kept things aligned properly so that things shown at 8pm EST could be shown at 8pm MST instead of 9 MST?

The ultimate effect of all this is that AS is even later here. While 1 hour doesn't seem like a lot, it does make the difference between a "light viewing" of a show at 12am and the realization that if you stay up and watch you won't be going to bed until 1:30 in the morning. :(

I know exactly how you feel. It seems that it is more Cable system dependent though. I live in Provo, Utah and both comcast and provo cable show things on the "just move it up an hour" schedule. AS doesn't start until midnight! The sad thing is that a cable com pany 20 miles down the road also administered and owned by the same company as Provo cable uses the opposite philosophy and shows the east coast feed (so the get AS at 9pm).
Those of use getting it at midnight in the Mountain Time Zone are getting the West Coast feed. As far as I know most networks maintain only those two feeds, despite the fact that tape delaying for Central and Mountain Time zones would not be that difficult.

I don't hate the time zone, only the people who live within it. Just kidding! That is really unfortunate. But it does seem likely the cable company would be willing to entertain a reasonable complaint, so go for it.

I'm in Mountain Time, but the programs are shown at their proper times.

Maybe it's because I'm in Arizona, where Daylight Savings doesn't exist.

EDIT: I misread your post.

I see what you're saying, but considering it's Adult Swim we're talking about, they have to keep programming late, because of soccer moms and other people like that.

Salt Lake City's getting an MLS team. Consider it even.

Man, that just sucks. I'm guessing you have more trouble viewing youir favorite shows than I do. I have to stay up to 1:30 here (I live in NY) due to DC/CC, but can't now cuz of school. You might have to stay later. You might as well stay up to 4 just to see all the shows (as I am meaning, EVERY show) on AS.

Those of use getting it at midnight in the Mountain Time Zone are getting the West Coast feed.
I'm guessing there's your answer. They must be trying to equalize it (So EST showings=PST showings).

And now....I wish CN would listen to us, the viewers, than those damn ratings. (Stroker and Hoop got 300,000. "How people are so harry with Stroker and Hoop"? Oh yeahhh....the lot of people watched it since it was new)

You could always blame the soccer moms.

I see what you're saying, but considering it's Adult Swim we're talking about, they have to keep programming late, because of soccer moms and other people like that.Hawaii must not have lots of soccer moms. Adult Swim starts at 8pm and the reruns start at 11.

I'm pretty sure we get the California feed which is why, even though we don't have Daylight saving time, AS will start an hour later come the fall. You guys must be on that feed too. Too bad you can't get the NY feed.

The Central Time zone is best since [adult swim] starts at 10 pm and CC is at midnight. Sorry to you guys in the other three time zones.

I'd register my hate against the Mountain time zone, but I realize you're all gonna be incinerated by that Supervolcano eruption any day now, so it's really a moot point.

Bah, lazy Comcast people...

At least we're the first in the country to get Digital Cable, On-Demand, and all the other stuff they like to test out...

The Mountain Time Zone killed my father. Hence my dislike for it.

Yep, we are... at least in Arizona. When it says that AS starts at 11 pm, they mean it.

I have to watch Case Closed at 1 AM because of it.

erm. Case closed is at 1 am normally.

I live near Phoenix, Arizona so it's a real pain in the ass when we switch back over to Mountain Time. Since Arizona follows odd rules, right now the state is in Pacific Time so, when a show says it will start at 11pm, it will really start at 11 pm. It's nice having it air earlier, but unfortunately when that happens its in the summer while I'm off. Technically, people in the Mountain States, and people in Arizona from October to April have to deal with watching shows the latest. Example:

AS Pacific: 11pm - 2am :)
AS Mountain: 12am - 3am
AS Central: 10pm - 1am :D
AS Eastern: 11pm - 2am :)

Yeah... but because I'm in the Mtn. time zone, I should be watching it at 10 pm.

I guess I should call myself lucky, then... 'cuz it comes on at 1 AM here in AZ.

The VCR helps to lessen the temptation to stay up that late. ;)

Yeah, I finally got off my lazy ass and figured out how to get my VCR to record the right way. (it records basic cable fine, but from channel 85 and up, it wont record. Had to mess with it to get it to record the good stuff.)

Tested it on CC last night, and it worked great. ( Stupid me watched the last 5 min tho when conan revealed the murderer, so I pretty much messed up a perfectly good mystery >_< )

But I don't have a remote for my VCR, and I'm too lazy to do it by hand.

Adult Swim in the Central Time zone starts at 10:00. So no need for tape delaying or anything. We get it an hour ahead of the other feeds.:D

Ha! That's for being unfair and making us stay up till 2 in the morning to watch AS.

Being in Arizona is worse than being in the Mountain time zone, because we're in Mountain for only half the year. During the summer we're in the oh-so-glorious Pacific zone, but in September we get bumped back an hour because we don't have DST. Or maybe my cable just stinks because we rip off most of our stations from Los Angeles.

It doesn't really affect AS though, because we get the east coast feed. It does screw up the morning shows though. Energon at 3:00am = bad times.

The VCR helps to lessen the temptation to stay up that late. ;) I used to do to that. I had a timer, though and it's even easier that way to record episodes, but the only problem is my VCR isn't working right, and whenever I record something there's no sound... Until I figure a way to correct it, I will have to stay up.

Being in Arizona is worse than being in the Mountain time zone, because we're in Mountain for only half the year.I think its actually better than if we lived fully in Mountain Time. At least half of the time, we're not up as late, whereas we would be if we lived in another Mountain State.

Kind of the same here in Indiana but I don't mind. Half the year Eastern. The other half is Central. I prefer Central though cause everything's on an hour earlier.
