Okay, now this has been bothering me for quite some time. Around a year and a half ago, I had Warcraft III on this computer, and it worked fine. (Well, it worked as well as a 7th generation burned copy can work. :D) However, I've reinstalled it several times over the past year, both with the burned and a store-bought copy, and for a reason I can't fathom, the game will begin to skip horribly after about fifteen minutes. It's not the space on the computer, because there's at least 4 GB left. I don't understand what the problem can be. Can anybody help me?

Hmmm, have a similar problem with the Mac version. That was caused by using AIM and running several other programs. I think running just Warcraft III and quitting other programs as much as possible might help.

Thus far, I've only had a few essential programs running (like Explorer), but it still skips to the point of it being unplayable from anywhere between 10-25 minutes, depending on the action, at which point, I have to restart my computer. Maybe it's another program conflicting with it, but I don't see what it could be. Maybe this comp just sucks. :D

Yeah, you might need a new PC or get an upgrade.

Sounds like you're on top of things, but you don't have any hidden programs running, by any chance? Spyware or anything else that's eating resources?
Have you updated your game? Have you updated your graphics card drivers?
sometimes when you update a game and don't upgrade your drivers it can cause problems.
Also, check the blizzard forums. I had a problem with WC3 a long time ago and it turned out to be conflicting audio drivers. After that I realized that just about anything can become a problem, but you're never the only one with it.

Well, I've run Ad Aware and Windows Washer, and there don't seem to be any hidden programs running, save for two things called "Winupdt" and "Winka", which I've found are impossible to get rid of. I can't find them anywhere or figure out how to shut them off. Still, I doubt those are what's causing the problem; those are recent, and this problem is longer lasting.
Good idea; I'll check the Blizzard forums and try to update my graphics. I refrained from updating the game itself because, if it didn't work, I was planning on uninstalling it (yet again). But, maybe I will now. :)

Have you tried the "options" in Warcraft III? I know you can adjust the graphics detail and the sounds. Lowering the those may give a bit of a speed boost.
You also try to making a disk image and try running off that. I have a feeling that the CD drive might have something to do with the slowdown.

From what you described, I had similar problems with another game a while back. The CD drive ceased functioning not long after.

well, it looks like I found the cause. Evidently, the default display settings of DirectX was making the game wierd out. I've tried a couple of quick games and was able to play to the end of both without any hitches (both games lasted around an hour). Looks like I'm good to go! (God help us all. :D) Thanks guys!
