View Full Version : Transformers: Armada - New Transformers series...
I've just read this thread (http://forums.tfw2005.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4294) over at a Transformers website and I'm in shock. I'm still contemplating putting this story on the newspage.

I heard rumors of a series in development after Transformers:Robots In Disguise. The post on "2005 Board" answers what we can/will be expecting. RID is being used to bring everyone up to speed and reintroduce the transformers to a new generation. I didnot hear/read that Mainframe would be doing the animation. Sweet!

Hmmm, I don't know. How reliable is this source? I'm not familiar with that board, so I don't know how much can be believed. But I gotta tell ya, this sounds a bit too much like some of the fan-fic I've seen out there on the web. It would be great if it were true, but I'll wait for an official annoncement of some sort.

Well, there are people who post on those boards who have worked on the shows, and/or know people who work on them. The person who posted that thread, 'Kickback' has been very reliable (or so I've heard), as well as the poster, 'Trentulas,' who I believe worked on "RiD" and other "Transformers" series.
I believe it and I'm pysched! This is going to rock!
For those who haven't seen it yet, this what the user, 'Kickback' posted on that board. I put a spoiler warning because in its original thread, it is treated as such:
- Unicron is a titled CHARACTER.
- Galvatron is returning, due to the big planet eater being around
- Optimus Prime, of some sort, is returning, whether it be the RID Prime or the G1 Prime is unknown, since the story does involve taking characters from different "series" and bringing them together
- The story doesn't take place before Beast Wars. It doesn't take place between G1 and Beast Wars. The series itself takes place around this time, in an alternate universe, so to speak (unfortunately, a story can be changed in the stroke of the "delete" key, so this may change as time goes on).
- RID and BM are finally explained in this series. Megatron's control of Cybertron in BM is explained and clarified (its much more than "he made a virus and wiped out everyone but him, bwahaha").
- Continuity of all the series' that had everyone going "Huh?" will be cleared up.
- We'll finally see what exactly RID has to do with any of the Transformer universe.
- Want to know a big hint on the proposed story? Beast Wars has a major tie in.
- As I stated days before the AllSpark post (shameless self plug, bwahaha), Mainframe is doing the work. Again, who do you think did the CGI for the RID Optimus Prime intro on the toy commercial?
- Guns. Lots of guns.
- Key characters. Up in the air at the moment are Cheetor, Rattrap, Prowl (G1/RID), Starscream (the one and only, Shockwave, Hot Rod, Tarantulas, and more.
- Joint effort by Takara and Hasbro. Meaning Japan will get this series once it has aired in America. All toys are designed by Hasbro and engineered by Takara.
- New figures gallore. Not as many repaints as seen in RID.
And the only hint I'll give based on the storyline (Jux, Trent, Zac, Tony, and the others who know can't answer this!):
- There's a reason we're seeing Prowl, Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Mirage, X-Brawn, Skid-Z in RID...

Cool!! I haven't seen much of RID but I did watch season 1 of Beast Wars and I remember Old School Transformers and the original theatrical movie. This sounds pretty sweet!

I checked out that thread and other things on the website (don't worry, I'd never leave here...just looking). There's some pretty interesting Transformers stuff there. Whether it's true or not is another story. I hope that it is.

Uh.... er. Won't the attempt to try to merge three continuities just make things confusing and horribly inaccessable?

Yep, my thoughts exactly. That's another reason I'm a little leary about this. It sounds like a fan-boys wet dream, but it sounds like something a bit too complicated for the networks to ever want to air. But, I'm still hoping its true.

I for one like it. And if it turns out to be true (and better than BM) I'll be one happy camper.
As far as merging continuities go, my understanding is that both Ha$bro and Takara have been wanting a one continuity for Transformers for some time now and Ha$bro is eyeing Marv Wolfman to be the story editor for the series. So who knows, we may end up with a "Crisis on Infinite Cybertrons" here. :D
According to Nameprotect.com (http://www.nameprotect.com/cgi-bin/FREESearch/detail.cgi?action=PAGE&db=PTO&task=info&detail_id=76319401&bip_values=), Hasbro has trademarked the name, "Transformers: Armada" on October 1 under the catergory "toys and sporting goods."
Intriguing...
So, there will be a series. I'm not saying that the past information is fact, but I'd like to believe it is.

It should also be noted that according to http://www.bwtf.com (a good site, usually reliable):
News for 11/9/01:
In a call to Mainframe Entertainment, I was told that they are not currently engaged in production of any Transformers property. When asked, they said that no Transformers show (including "Armada") was in the works with them. If indeed a Transformers show was to be produced by Mainframe for a mid-2002 release, they would have to know very soon (meaning by January at the latest) since pre production takes a lot of work. Mainframe's current projects include Reboot, a new Betty Boop show and a show based on Tony Hawk.
Could be that the next series wont be done my Mainframe (a stupid decision IMO). Or more likely Mainframe just hasn't been contracted to do the work for the new series yet.

I've read this earlier today and then sent out an email to someone who works over at Mainframe. I'm hoping he'll respond soon. It could be that the deal hasn't gone through yet and they aren't at liberty to say anything. Mainframe are the best at television CGI animation, IMHO. Here's hoping that Mainframe is on board.
If this series is really going to happen, I'm wonder who will write on it. Marv Wolfman would be an excellent candidate. He has already had experience working on "Beast Wars."

Well, apart from Wolfman (who also helped BM from slipping farther down the slope of mediocrity) I say Ha$bro should play it smart and bring back Bob Forward & Larry Dilitto(sp?) the head writers/story editors of BW.

Problem is, I'm not sure Bob and Larry would come back after the crap they went through with the execs there.

After thinking a bit, I wouldn't mind if they tried to reconcile regular Transformers and Beast Wars/Machines, but I think they'd be better off if they just pretended RID didn't exist.
I wonder what network would get this? The future of FOX Kids is uncertain for next year. They've broadcast the last few "Transformers" series, so it might end up there, if it's still around. Personally, I'd like to see it go to Cartoon Network and air on Toonami. If not Cartoon Network, then Kids' WB!

Well, I'm liking it, but I've been a drooling TF fanboy from day one in the early '80's. Crisis On Infinite Cybertrons, you beat me to it. I will be paying attention to this, & I too wondered if there was any connection betwixt the different Ironhides, Mirages, Scourges, etc.
