View Full Version : Winx Club "Spelled" Talkback (SPOILERS)

Don't see any sign of Freedom Fighter, so I guess I'm taking over again.
Time for episode 9 of "Winx Club". And this one oughtta be a doozy.
THIS WEEK:
Well, it's finally happened. After 8 weeks of being all sweet and nice, our old pal Bloom has finally snapped. And that means BIG trouble for the Senior Witches. What has made Bloom so on edge, and will the Treacherous Trio be able to recover from the certain fiasco that is sure to transpire?
Usual rules apply (go back to one of the earlier talkbacks for da rules.) Just a reminder, we may not have a talkback next week. Several sources list a rerun in the usual spot for August 21st. We'll see if they give us a "Crystal Ball Video" at the end.
I'll be back later for my comments.

3, pretty good episode ... this series is really getting more intresting, i also like how the dubbing tries to act like a tween thing when, i dont think it is 100%
anyways, does this mean a new episode next week or not?

Not really sure. The "Crystal Ball Video" did air (it focused on the Senior Witches and had "Mean Girls Rule" as its theme), but TVTome and Michael's Winx Club say the next new episode is scheduled for August 28th (2 weeks from now.) I'll get back to you on this after the 10:30 airing (since they usually do a separate Fox Box promo of next week during "The Menu.")

It was an exciting episode - I liked it. I love the witches so any episode where they go at it with the Winx girls is great, haha. :)

This episode left me a little cold, and it's not just Icy. It went by way too quickly. I'll do my usual character dissection.
BLOOM: Yes, we get it Bloom is mysterious. I'm so glad her powers finally came out and the witches found out about them. Move the storyline along already!
STELLA: Now this is how I see Stella all the time. I just don't like her. Though I have to give her points for 'Boring. New topic!' I feel that way, too, Stell.
FLORA: Loved the scene where she's knocked into the building and mutters an 'I'm good.' So funny and somehow typically Flora. And we finally see the problem of her PJs from episode 5 fixed. (I wasn't at this board to comment on it then, but poor Flora looked like she wore her regular clothes to bed in that episode.) Here she's wearing a sleep outfit that's similar to her regular clothing, so it was just a coloring error. She moves up another notch on my favorite scale.
MUSA: I still can't find much sympathy for this girl. I like how she faces off with Stella all the time, but I really don't care much about her. (I think it's mostly her awful vocab.) I laughed when she called Riven a 'two-faced playa.' Um...did I miss the part where he expressed any interest in her whatsoever? Didn't think so. Wake up, Musa. He doesn't want you, spell or no spell. But you're still cute, so you have the chance to climb up my list if you improve.
TECNA: The PB scene was cute and I loved it when she got mad at Stella, but I shuddered uncontrollably when I heard that 'Hi, Timmy!' Oh, please do not let them make her fawn over a guy! It would so ruin her. She also displayed uncharacteristic lack of foresight with Stormy. She definitely had time to get that firewall shield up, but instead she gets taken out of the entire fight. Very smooth, Tecna. The Timmy incident and her lack of foresight cause Tecna to slip a notch or two this week, though she still ranks high above the other Winx girls.
ICY: Ah, Icy. So delightfully wicked, though her 'the end' line was a bit painful. The wart scene was hilarious. And as always, Icy displays amazing powers, including one involving fire. Love her!
STORMY: Stormy gets the best line award for her 'Why, it's the one with the pigtails.' I like mad Stormy best. Grumpy Stormy is fun, but mad Stormy really rocks.
DARCY: Ah, yes. Now we have an answer to the does she really like Riven or not question? The answer is no. No girl lays that much flattery on someone she sincerely likes. Trust me. Darcy's powers totally kick butt. I love when she duplicates herself, though that scene was ended way too fast. I also loved her throwing cars at Musa. I wanna throw cars at Musa!
MISC: It was good to see the red-haired witch again. She's so cute. I like her much. And this ep gets a plus for no annoying song!
On a final note, was it just me or did Musa's bus drop her off at Booty Avenue?

Nice episode, though I do agree with Darcy's comments on the whole Bloom issue. As much as I love her, I too feel that her storyline has dragged on a tad too long. But, at least she's got her proper powers now.
I was also disappointed that the Witches retreated so quickly. I was hoping that they'd make a move at Bloom, only to be met with a few more fireballs, THEN bail, but time constraints and all that.
Other than those two complaints, I didn't really see anything wrong with this one. "Spelled" gets a high 3 out of 4 (going by Freedom Fighter's scoring system, which I borrowed for the poll [And yes, I DID remember the poll this week. :)])

This might've been my favorite episode thus far into the series. Probably need to think about it anyway. It had the great fight with the witches, it had a vicious Stella bringing out some great stuff from Flora and Tecna, it had a fun conversation with Icy, Stormy, and Musa outside that restaurant, or whatever it was. And other stuff too, probably.
Stella seemed like a parody of herself this episode. I've got to wonder how that "mood spell" works, exactly. Did it just make her say random mean things? Or was it more that she was forced to blurt out how she really felt about everyone? Either way, I felt a little bit bad for her: even if she is a little brat at times, it usuallly seems she tries to be nice.
It comes as absolutely no shock to me that Musa is more sensitive to being made fun of than Flora or Tecna.
Does Riven even know Musa has a crush on him? Yeah, I know Bloom outright told him last week, but that seemed to pass right over his head.
I'm not too surprised the Senior Witches retreated so quickly, really. They're intelligent enough to know that they were completely unprepared for Bloom's power, and that it would be best for them to take a little time to figure out their next step rather than to just keep attacking then and there.
Darcy, you may just be right about how Darcy feels about Riven. I'll wait a little longer before officially declaring you "right" and myself "wrong," but going by today, Darcy seemed to have zero romantic interest in Riven.
An important lesson we've learned today: both Icy and Darcy seemed to have a notable sense of humor when they're winning. Darcy's the better "joke teller," for lack of a better word: not that they were that funny, but her jokes were cute: Icy's jokes were kinda' groaners ;).
A couple weeks ago, I had wondered about those two nicer witches. I had wondered if they'd stick to their guns, or if popularity would eat them alive. Turns out I may have been right on both counts. The red-head seems unlikely to go bad. The green-head, if that's a word, seems more confused, obviously wanting to fit in, and hang with the "cool crowd," which happens to be the Senior Witches, of course. I have to wonder if the other witches with them were the same way, infected with peer pressure... they don't seem downright evil like our Favorite Trio, but they're definitely not on a good path....
Though I must say, bad or not, I just found it irresistably cute when that one witch complained about being cold.
Ya' know, Darcy, the Timmy/Tecna thing does seem a bit forced. Doesn't feel like a "natural" connection, but more just pitting them together just to have another couple. I try not to let it bug me, especially since it seems less pronounced then the other pairings.
Or maybe that's just because Tecna never gets the spotlight. They ought to... I've been appreciating Tecna more lately.
BLOOM: Yes, we get it Bloom is mysterious. I'm so glad her powers finally came out and the witches found out about them. Move the storyline along already!Ya' know, I feel kinda' sorry for her. She's in this new world, confused, obviously a sweetie pie, yet no one likes her much. I still love ya', Bloom... just less than a few of the other characters.
I like mad Stormy best. Grumpy Stormy is fun, but mad Stormy really rocks. That's the best side of Stormy. I love mad Stormy. Still my favorite of the three witches.

I'm not too surprised the Senior Witches retreated so quickly, really. They're intelligent enough to know that they were completely unprepared for Bloom's power, and that it would be best for them to take a little time to figure out their next step rather than to just keep attacking then and there. I agree completely. It seemed once it hit Icy that Bloom had the power, she wanted to go right back to Cloud Tower to plot a new scheme... ;)
Darcy, you may just be right about how Darcy feels about Riven. I'll wait a little longer before officially declaring you "right" and myself "wrong," but going by today, Darcy seemed to have zero romantic interest in Riven. I agree again, but I can't help but to remember last week's episode (Day of the Rose) when after Icy mentioned that Riven took the helmet, Darcy let out a concerned face and a, "Hmmm...". Ah well.
An important lesson we've learned today: both Icy and Darcy seemed to have a notable sense of humor when they're winning. Darcy's the better "joke teller," for lack of a better word: not that they were that funny, but her jokes were cute: Icy's jokes were kinda' groaners ;). Darcy continues to be my favorite witch. She's so...evil, but casual and quirky about it. Her line to Musa about playing 'Crash Test Fairie' was hillarious. :D

I can't help but to remember last week's episode (Day of the Rose) when after Icy mentioned that Riven took the helmet, Darcy let out a concerned face and a, "Hmmm...". Ah well.I thought so as well last week, that it seemed Darcy might've actually had a bit of a crush, but like we've mentioned, this week, it just seemed so... not love on Darcy's part.
Darcy continues to be my favorite witch. She's so...evil, but casual and quirky about it. Her line to Musa about playing 'Crash Test Fairie' was hillarious. :DThat seems to be a big difference between Icy and Darcy: Darcy seems more casual and relaxed, and Icy more professional and uptight, though Icy did seem more relaxed during her pummeling of the pixies this week. Either way, they both seem just about equally smart, and equally vicious. That also explains why Darcy would be better with her jokes than Icy ;).

this is the second (or third?) episode with those 2 witches and the one doesnt want to be mean to the fairies but her friend went off with the others in today's ep.

Not too bad an ep.:) I liked Bloom saved the day with her new power. She was mad as heck and she wasn't gonna take any more of the witches hurting her friends!:D
The only part I didn't like was Stella's atttude, even if she was under a spell. She really hurt Musa big time.:(
Well, that's my first opinion of this show. So far, it's not bad although there could be some more action. Hopefully, we'll see it soon.
Of course, I still like their outfits. I have a thing for bare midriffs.;)

Reminds you of Bloom? If you mean appearance-wise, maybe a little bit. If you mean personality-wise, well... we don't really know enough about her to say.
Of course, I still like their outfits. I have a thing for bare midriffs.Depends on the character. Bloom pulls it off nicely. Stella, not so much.

Interesting spoilers, Darcy. Anyone willing to bet that said witch will turn on her Cloud Tower mates and join the Winx girls in the future? (If not in these 26 episodes, then maybe in season 2? I've heard on the TVTome forum that 104 episodes are being produced in total in Italy, and I'm willing to bet a majority of these episodes will end up here, if the ratings hold up.)

BLOOM: Yes, we get it Bloom is mysterious. I'm so glad her powers finally came out and the witches found out about them. Move the storyline along already!I think the pace is just about right concerning Bloom's powers. It wasn't like the whole episode was devoted to Bloom; the little bits of information from each episode is a very good way to build her storyline.
And besides, Bloom is clearly the antagonist of this show, so she should get the most attention. For me, she is a likeable enough character to warrant the attention she is getting in the show, but there is plenty of room for the other girls to get the spotlight, and I'm sure they will in the future episodes.
Stella seemed like a parody of herself this episode. I've got to wonder how that "mood spell" works, exactly. Did it just make her say random mean things? Or was it more that she was forced to blurt out how she really felt about everyone? Either way, I felt a little bit bad for her: even if she is a little brat at times, it usuallly seems she tries to be nice.I think the things Stella blurted out in this episode is what she really thinks. The mood spell unlocked her restraint on good judgement, so stuff just came flying out of her mouth.
I was also disappointed that the Witches retreated so quickly. I was hoping that they'd make a move at Bloom, only to be met with a few more fireballs, THEN bail, but time constraints and all that.I really can't see any reason why they would want to stick around only to get their asses to them by a suped up Bloom. Running away is the smart play in this case.
I have to wonder if the other witches with them were the same way, infected with peer pressure... they don't seem downright evil like our Favorite Trio, but they're definitely not on a good path....So all the students from Cloud Tower aren't exactly evil then? This makes sense but we haven't seen any bad seeds from the Winx school, so I still get the impression that Cloud Tower students are evil and the Winx School students are good.
This was another good episode because we got to learn more about Bloom and her mysterious powers. Now that we know that she has the Dragon Fire Magic, this only brings up more questions about her.
Too bad Timmy didn't partcipate in the fight against the witches. Once he saw that Tecna was injured, he ran to her side. He is kind of the "geek" of the four guys on the show, so I would like to see him get a little down and dirty and just start whaling on someone.

I think the pace is just about right concerning Bloom's powers. If some of us didn't know about Bloom's origin before the show even started, the pacing would be fine. But I, and I think a few others, looked at the Italian website before the show began and they have spoilers galore there, only I didn't know they were spoilers until I started watching the show. Also, the Bloom doll reveals her as the Dragon Fire fairy. I think the show should have been started earlier than the toys were released, considering that spoiler is given. The Italian website really needs a big warning label for those of us who haven't been getting the show until now. Bloom had the big spoiler concerning her powers and...
...anyone who read the boys' profiles knows that the blonde is actually Prince Sky and the dark-haired one is Brandon. That's going to be the next big thing, after Bloom's origin, I think. I believe it's revealed in episode 17 or somewhere around there. That'll be very interesting to see, as well as the appearance of Sky's fiancee.
So all the students from Cloud Tower aren't exactly evil then? This makes sense but we haven't seen any bad seeds from the Winx school, so I still get the impression that Cloud Tower students are evil and the Winx School students are good. I think that's generally the case, but there are exceptions. The red-haired witch is the main one, but it doesn't seem Alfea students are all sweet and kind either. I remember disliking the random girls from episode 4 quite a bit. Buncha snobs. I bet they're not perfectly "good" and could easily be pushed into doing something bad. I actually think that of Stella, too. Give her a selfish enough reason and she'd go bad.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of [the mystery red-headed witch]. I really like her for some reason.Oddly enough, so do I. Odd, because I was very interested in seeing more of her after just her first short appearance... I don't know why, necessarily... just a strong feeling I had about her.
And despite just two small appearances thus far, she's probably my favorite minor character in the show.
And besides, Bloom is clearly the [protagonist] of this show, so she should get the most attention. For me, she is a likeable enough character to warrant the attention she is getting in the showI love Bloom to death. Still ain't my favorite character, and I almost feel bad about that, since she's obviously confused. Still, I can certainly understand Darcy's complaints.

Ooo, outfit discussion. *rubs hands together*
BLOOM: Bloom's regular outfit is cute and simple, but nothing too spectacular. Her fairy outfit disturbs me a bit. It's nice, but sometimes the split in her top seems to come up too high. Her dance outfit was fantastic though. Definitely her best piece so far. Her outfit from episode 7 was cute, too. Loved the legwarmers.
STELLA: Ah, Stella, the fashion no-no. Lavender headband with an orange skirt? I'm sorry, dear, but no. I do love her shoes though. I'd wear them...in different colors, of course. Her fairy outfit is all right. Again, nothing special. She really needs to lose those headbands though. I like her dance outfit a lot, though the top is on the daring side. And again with the lavender and orange. Bad color combo. Her ep 7 outfit was scary. The top had potential, but not with those pants. Yecch.
FLORA: Flora's got the fashion sense, no matter what Stella says. Her regular outfit is sweet. The only thing I'd change is the strawberries on the skirt. I'd lose them. Otherwise, it's perfect for her. She has the prettiest fairy outfit, too. Her dance dress was gorgeous, though the hair needed some work. She had the best of the ep 7 outfits by far. Very stylish.
MUSA: Musa's regular outfit suits her very well, but seriously how do those pants stay up? I've seen pics of her with them sliding partway down her thigh, showing an awful lot of panty. That's pushing it a tad, in my opinion. I love the dress part of her fairy outfit (the see-through section rocks), but not the headphones or the boots so much. The little ribbon on her arm is a nice touch. She had the best of the dance outfits, though they were all great. Her was awesome. I'd wear it (again in different colors). Her ep 7 outfit was second-best after Flora's. The thing that took the points away was the big M on the skirt. I'm not a big fan of initials. (I don't mind them on the witches uniforms because they're more blended in.)
TECNA: Tecna's regular outfit is very her. I like it a lot. Not something I'd wear, but it suits her well. I love her fairy outfit. Not everyone has to flash the skin. I especially love the full, gloved sleeves and the turtleneck collar. The boots and wings rock. I'm not a fan of the helmet though. Her dance dress was fabulous and her ep 7 outfit cute. All her clothes suit her very well.
WITCHES: I love Icy's skimpy little outfit. Those boots are awesome. It's so very her, too. Darcy's is a bit odd, though it suits her somehow. I like the glasses. Stormy's got the best of the three. I adore that top. Their uniforms are equally fabulous. I like Darcy's best except for the full gloves. I prefer gloves like Stormy's.
So the witches come out on top for my clothing award. Their outfits are just so much more my style.

Well, Darcy, I think you've touched on the subject more than I ever could have. Or would have.
I do think you're tough on Bloom though. Yeah, that split does seem to come too high sometimes, but aside from that... yeah, her normal outfit is simple. Maybe that's why I like it. I dunno'.
And of course, gotta' love Darcy's glasses. I'm curious if they're just to look fashionable, or if she's near- or farsighted or something....
Dare I say that they'd better bring this show to DVD over in the US....

Ok, here's what's happening as far as this coming Saturday goes. If you've read my last several posts, you'll know that there's a bit of confusion going on. "Spelled"'s music video contained various clips from future episodes, seemingly indicating that the next new episode would not air last week.
Well, immediately following the second airing of this week's episode, and right before "The Menu", Fox aired a promo that indicated that next week WOULD be a new episode. More confusion.
I found this at Michael's Winx Club site:
August 17, 2004: Every source I've been to where I get episode information has not provided a title for this weekend's show. It's possible its a re-run or no "official" title was given. Next week's episode is called "Junior League" but I have no title information for the following week.
So, as of now, I say wait until Saturday to see what exactly happens.

Heads up: I just got a PM from Freedom Fighter. The reason he was unable to do this week's talkback is because he's encountered some internet problems. Until he is able to get his connection back up to speed, I will be hosting these talkbacks. So look for me again either this week (if there is a new episode) or next week (when "Junior League airs).

Man, a guy goes away for a week and postage is up. Is it that I'm not doing the talkbacks right... or is the show finally drawing in more viewers?
Anyway, I've been away because I've lost my Internet connection and I don't know when I'm getting it back. So, I've put sag_2002 in charge of the talkbacks until further notice. (Good looking out for the poll, BTW :) .)
I also have a review of this episode... somewhere. I think I need to go watch my tape again to do a full review, as always, but I did give the episode a 3 out of 4.
Two things I think are worth mentioning, since I remember them off the top of my head:
* Bloom's full power is finally revealed... but other than a burst, we really didn't get much else... which kinda left me disappointed.
* Don't know if the dub or the original was at fault here, but I'm pretty sure after this week, the number of people who actually like Stella has been reduced to a miniscule few. I think only the people who like her totally on looks and nothing else are still there, but everyone else has abandoned ship. Heh... didn't think Stella could go any further down my ladder...
A more in-depth review tomorrow... hopefully.

Man, a guy goes away for a week and postage is up. Is it that I'm not doing the talkbacks right... or is the show finally drawing in more viewers?I think one of the reasons is that there are new members that have started posting as compared to the first few talkbacks.
The other reason is that the more recent episodes have more stuff worth discussing because the plot is starting to move along, and the more interesting parts of the show is starting to show itself.
* Bloom's full power is finally revealed... but other than a burst, we really didn't get much else... which kinda left me disappointed. The mystery Bloom's power is a pretty big revelation. Although we didn't get much else, it is a nice tease and leaves audience hanging a bit but in a good way.
* Don't know if the dub or the original was at fault here, but I'm pretty sure after this week, the number of people who actually like Stella has been reduced to a miniscule few. I think only the people who like her totally on looks and nothing else are still there, I don't see how as she isn't the prettiest nor second prettiest of the girls. She is probably number 4 or 5 for me.

Don't know if the dub or the original was at fault here, but I'm pretty sure after this week, the number of people who actually like Stella has been reduced to a miniscule few. I think only the people who like her totally on looks and nothing else are still there, but everyone else has abandoned ship.Actually, I do like Stella. She's not my favorite fairy, mind you. Or my second favorite. Or even my third or fourth, but I still like her. Sometimes. I mean, she's a spoiled brat, sure, but it often seems she's trying to be nicer. She's not that great at it, but I don't think she's a lost cause, either.
And the prettiest ain't Stella. It's either Bloom, for a more cutesy look, or Darcy, for a more provocative look.

Moving on to another topic:
For those who haven't bothered to check the news page, we finally found this week's episode title. As confirmed by Zedd (although this IS subject to change in the next 24 hours), this week's episode IS new. The ep will be entitled "Magical Reality Check" and...
will deal with Bloom's newfound power a little more, as evidenced by some sort of training exercise.
So, come on back either later tonight or tomorrow morning (depending on when I decide to post the talkback).

I was wondering what you guys thought about the latest episode. I think that the witches plan was good-its a good thing the dragon fire power escaped. And Bloom did a good job fighting. Im glad that she saved Kikko too. The only parts I didn't like were the SOSes spell and when they threw Bloom in the air and spelt her name. Also, did any of you enter the contest that was on the foxbox for winx? Good Luck if you did :anime:

Welcome to the forums, but (not to be rude or anything, but) you kinda picked the wrong talkback to post that. If you wish to post your thoughts on the current episode, we suggest you do so in the appropriate talkback. Thank you.
