In almost every series, there's bound to be some cheezy phrase that pops out in the most unlikely places. I remember long ago, watching Mobile Suit Gundam (everybody remember that show), and there was an episode where the main guy was fighting these hick type bad guys. Upon seeing the main guy's infamous Gundam, he blurts out, "Look IT'S DAT THERE MOBILE SUIT THINGIE!!!" That's exactly what the guy said! Not to mention later on, he called the captain Cappie. Anyone who saw that episode can testify to that.

Dubbed North American version of DBZ:
"You can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish!"

I groan just typing it.

Kauro in Kenshin dub

"You stinkers!!!"

Some of DD's lines in Return of the Joker, dang sometimes those two bugged me.

There are more that I have to think of

The Superfriends had plenty of cheesy lines. Supes "Up, up, and away!" got annoying after the millionth time he said it. I guess you could also count the narrator in as well. Every scene change started out "Meanwhile...blah, blah..." Uuugggh that was a cheesy show (but I always watched it!).

Klondike Cat's ubiquitous, "I'll make mincemeat out of that mouse!" Aagh. Probably Jay Ward's worst character....

ROTJ: "Lets dance Bozo" -I donno...I just don't like it

and the old Zelda Cartoon: "Excuuuuse me princess!"
was funny when i was a kid but now it's just...*shudders*

That's true. Strangely enough. it sounds cuter in Japanese. I guess it's because camp dialogue works better when it's not in your own language.

I must admit, I found the second episode of Batman Beyond (technically the last half of a long episode) had an amusing line--"I AM Batman." First reaction was, "Why doesn't the enemy just say, 'Sure you are, buddy.'

You know, a lot of you guys have to realize that some of these lines may be intentionally cheesy.

That said, I also disliked "Darkwing Duck."

~shudders~ that may be my favourite anime (as long as it's subtitled... the dubbed voices are just so... somehow) but that line just drives me insane! It's sooo much better in japanese...

then from the Sailor Moon SuperS the Movie (Black Dream Hole) "Room service! Bringing you a package with lots of looove!" (yes, that's right, I can quote that entire movie, same goes for the R movie... screwy ain't it?)

Darkwing Duck? ~shudders again~ NEVER liked that show... At least not of my own free will...

The end of Powerpuff Girls. "SO once again! The day is saved! Thanks to... THE POWERPUFF GIRLS!" course there are a few episode when it's something else... but still!!!

It was OK.There's stuff I would have done differently if I had created the show.

1.DW would have been more like Batman.
2.No Launchpad McQuack
3.No Gizmoduck.
4.No Negaduck.

Hey, I liked Darkwing! That show was probably the best use of Disney's style of humor. It wasn't perfect, but I wouldn't really change it.

As for bad lines... as much as I enjoyed this week's episode of South Park, I almost threw a heavy object into my TV after Towlie's comment... I can't bear to repeat it...

I'm sure a few will agree that the best thing about Darkwing Duck is the openning number. Come to think of it, that's true for Duck Tales as well

I used to call the character "Dorkwing Schmuck" myself. He was a loser compare. Then again, animated TV, as well as live-action TV,
has always been littered with losers, rejects and all-out failures.

Doug, Pete on "Goof Troop", Tim Taylor, "Weird Al" acting as an ersatz version of himself on "The Weird Al Show", Homer Simpson, Drew Carey, Fozzie Bear, any father on any sitcom, why can't they make fun of the mothers once in a goshdarn while, the networks can bite me, void where prohibited, you must be 21 or older or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, [BLEEP] hope, of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong, good night and have a pleasant tomorrow...What was my point?

Oh yeah.

Darkwing Duck was a loser, and I don't like losers, mainly because I think I'm one and I have a deep self-hatred complex.

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

The only American exception to your cases that I can think of is Lucy Ball. Due to common subconscious perceptions perpetuated by the media of modern American society, it funny when man fall down go boom.

I don't remember in what cartoon I heard this, simply because it was about 20 years ago, but I remember a character was just about to die and pleaded for his life by saying to the one about to kill him:"No please, you can't kill me, you're beautiful"

Let's not forget:

"With your powers combined I am Captain Planet!" does he has to say it everytime he pops up?

"I love you, you love me, etc, etc," Barney.

"NARF!!" Pinky and the Brain

Yes! Yes, he does have to say that every time he pops up. That's because like most lame superheroes he lives in mortal dread that people will forget exactly who he is and what he does. "You, with the green hair and Rand MacNally logo on your chest! Who are you, again?" :p

What's wrong with Darkwing Duck? Half the fun's in the bad puns and general atmosphere of barely contained lunacy. At least it wasn't Bonkers, right?

I found the He-man transformation chant pretty twinge-inducing, especially since my younger brother used to climb furniture, striking what I think was supposed to be a heroic pose, and recite it at the top of his lungs.

Smurf talk and Berry talk in large doses is also a very, very bad thing.

That was actually one of my favorite quotes from Gundam Wing. Every now and then I still go around just yelling it out of nowhere.

I really don't like Comic Book Guy's line "Worst ____ Ever." They use it way too much...when it was first said it was good, but then it quickly became unbearable.

...though CBG himself is pretty unbareable these days also. ;)

I watched some really weird cartoons as a kid!

My cartoon line gripe is from my namesake, and of course is therefore where my attention is focused the most as far as animation I dig, Batman/Superman. Between Batman The Animated Series, and the New Batman/Superman Adventures, I've heard the generic quote "...with time off for good behavior." heard so many times I used to really like it but then it started killing me. :)

But let me ALSO say that I can't believe people exist who didn't like Darkwing Duck! It RULES, especially because this is DISNEY we're talking about. Happy dorky annoying dopey sneezy dock Disney. Woops, take out those last two, I got carried away. Although I of course must include what Mad Hatter did and say it in fact wasn't perfect, but it was still great.

Embarrassingly enough, I actually like a lot of the quotes used as what gripes people. The first time I heard "It's clobberin time!!" was from Spiderman's first kick butt episode, The Spider Slayers, and I just liked it ever since. So basically out of all my favorite shows I don't really have any lines that annoy me like that except for that overused Batman/Superman deal up there. :)
