Well are they? I've heard so much contradictory info...I heard Sgt. Rock and Easy Co. were going to be on an episode with the Blackhawks. Since they are from the 40s just like the JSA were, isn't it possible the JSA are on the same episode?

The JSA won't be showing up according to Bruce Timm. Apparently, some JSA rip-off will. Kinda disappointing, I was really looking forward to it.

Not sure how the JSA's rights could be tied up elsewhere, but Timm and crew couldn't get them from DC.

Characters I would use for the JSA replacement team:

Johnny Quick
Liberty Belle
The Tarantula
Phantom Lady
Blue Beetle(not Ted Kord)
Dollman
Ray
Black Condor

Think it's possible they could get the rights to the Justice Society on a later season?

It's always possible. A few years ago, they didn't have the rights to Wonder Woman or the JLA. So, yeah, things can change.

I think the deal is that they can't get the rights to any DC Golden Age character.

Yeah, that's how I understood it, That they'd come up with all new characters, but I wouldn't call them "rip-offs".

I assumed more in the way they developed the Grey Ghost. Who many imbraced as an Iconic characters inspired by the golden age. These would be believable precursors and inspirations for our modern league.
The word "Iconic" was used in the blurb I believe. Granted that could imply anything from mythology, religion, film, the pulps and golden age comics themselves, but I have faith they will make it work.
The JSA would have been great, but now we get something entirely new and surprising to look forward to.
Kind of makes it more exiting.
