Does anyone remember what Batman's reaction was? I sometimes remember it being a no reaction whatsoever expression, other times I remember him giving a "Whoa. What ARE you doing?" expression. :D Anyone want to help me out. Even though I think the hug was pretty well done as it showed how much Barbara cares for him.

There was virtually no reaction at all. If you want to super-analyze it, Batman's mouth did change a tiny little bit, but I am not sure that was meant to be an indication of anything. The shot showed Batman mostly from behind, so there wasn't much to go by.

Effectively, the creative team had yet to actually establish any of the famed maybe/maybe-not relationship between Bruce and Barb (since that comes in A Touch of Curare). Barb does have a romantic daydream about her and Batman in Batgirl Returns, but this is before she puts a face behind the mask and actually gets to know the guy, so it's pure fantastical fluff (speaking from a continuity sense).
I wouldn't read too much into it. She just saw Batman and her father fall to their deaths in the end of her nightmare, which explains the immediate hug: "Thank god you're still alive!" Batman wouldn't think too much of it as well, since he has yet to view Barbara in that fashion at all and doesn't have any visible proof yet on how she feels (or will feel). He might be confused as to why she's hugging him, but she'd been through a lot and the explanation a few seconds later cleared it all up anyway.

Can anyone get a screenshot of it so I can be sure?

There was never any suggestion that Barbara thought she was the glue that held the Bat-Family together. It's not about Barbara being arrogant, it's about her coming face to face with one of her biggest fears, namely that keeping her crime-fighting life a secret from her Dad, could eventually have terrible consequences for all her loved ones, which is why she (kind of) comes clean with him at the end, and there's the subtle hint that he already knew.

You sure he knew? I always thought he sorta assumed barbara had become a stripper or something else he'd rather not know about :D

You sure he knew? I always thought he sorta assumed barbara had become a stripper or something else he'd rather not know about :DWell, that would certainly put a different spin on his "All you need to know is that I love you... all of you"-line :) I think I will stick with my original interpretation.

When Barbara is about to tell him, Gordon says "You are capable of making your own decisions. You don't need me to approve or even aknowledge it... and in this case I can't". At this point, I suppose if you really want it to be, it could still be about something else, but he then goes on to say "All you need to know is that I love you... all of you". That's where it becomes obvious, as it's clearly a reference to the Bat-Family, and in the context of what the episode was about, there is absolutely no doubt that it was meant to suggest he knew she was Batgirl... without actually 100% confirming it.

I completely agree with everything you just said. In the comics I believe Jim knows Bruce is Batman but he refuses to admit it.

In the comics I believe Jim knows Bruce is Batman but he refuses to admit it.I suppose it depends on which title and who is writing it at any given time, but there have certainly been plenty of hints over the years that he does know. I don't think he refuses to admit it to himself, but I suppose that's open to interpretation. Personally, I think the Batman-Gordon relationship works best when Gordon knows, but never acknowledges it.

...but he then goes on to say "All you need to know is that I love you... all of you". Hey, he could be referring to all her stripper co-workers! Okok, it's a stretch, I know...

The point of these message boards is to discuss things, but when someone doesn't back up their statement, the discussion goes away with it.

Well, there's that scene in No Man's Land where Batman takes off his mask and Gordon says he doesn't want to see, but hints very strongly at knowing.
