Has anyone heard the two Fiona Apple songs from her new album? Well, if you haven't, you may never get the chance. Apparently, Fiona has finished recording her latest album, but Sony has shelved it. Sony claims they feel the album has no single.

That has to be complete crap. I've heard the two songs, "Extraordinary Machine" and "Better Version of Me" and both are beautiful songs. In fact "Better Version of Me" would be perfect as a single, so what's the problem? I think Sony must be making excuses.

It makes me so angry because Fiona is my favorite musician ever, and those songs are amazing! Now I want to hear the rest! Does anyone have more information on this at all?

This kind of thing happens all of the time. What will probably happen (if Sony doesn't buckle and just release it) is that Fiona or another label will buy out the album from Sony and release it. It will see the light of day.

Word, the same thing actually happened to Wilco when they released their masterpiece Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Reprise (their former label) told them it wasn't radio friendly and shelved it. So the band put the album up on their website and went looking for a new record company. In 2002, Nonesuch records released the album in it's entirety. The ironic part about the story is that Nonesuch is an imprint of Reprise...so basically Reprise payed twice for the album. That's record company logic for you. So, long story short, you will see the album eventually.

I really hope that's what will happen. I really want to hear the rest of the album.

But what makes it worse is that Fiona didn't even want to record the album, but was talked into it. The she gets it done and Sony won't even release it. That sucks.
