I've enjoyed watching the Justice League the past 2 seasons and Justice League Unlimited has already gotten off to a great start. Everyone has his or her favorite character among the original 7, but it's the talented actors behind them that make the characters fresh and fascinating. Who's your favorite?

Kevin Conroy as Batman. After 12 years, I can hear his voice in my head reading even mainstream Batman books - he IS the definitive Dark Knight.

Boy, this is a tough question. I'd have to say Carl Lumbly as J'onn J'onzz. I didn't know too much about the Martian Manhunter before JL aired, but his performances have made MM my favorite character on the show.

Gotta go with Kevin Conroy. Excellent voice. Too bad, though, that's all most people ever get from him, his voice. He's actually an accomplished stage actor and is highly respected among theatre troupes for his interpretation of Shakespeare characters, including Hamlet. He's done some good TV acting, too. He was hilarious as the doctor in RACHEL GUNN, R.N. Plus, he's just a super-cool guy in person.

Now that I think about it, all the voices are really well done. In almost every animated show I watch there is always one or two voice actors that are really bad or really annoying. I never noticed either flaw with Justice League. :)

Definately Kevin Conroy as Batman. I highly doubt anyone can top that.I love that deep, ominous voice of his that has been Batman's for years. And yes he IS the definative Batman. When reading the comics, I ALWAYS hear his voice as Batman's and I think I always will.

This is a tough question for me because it's easy to confuse a like or dislike of a character with the quality of the voice acting. I'd have to with Michael Rosenbaum though. I think his acting sounds the most natural, the most spontaneous. But then, Flash is more of a jocular character. I imagine that Carl Lumbly sometimes has a tough time giving J'onn's affectless speech depth without making it sound too stiff. Since J'onn rarely sounds starchy, I gotta give some mad props to Mr. Lumbly.

I think it's worth noting too, that all of the voice actors have improved as they've become more familiar with their characters since the first episode of JL. For instance, I was not a big fan of Susan Eisenberg's Wonder Woman early in the series; her lines often sounded like they were being read, rather than felt. However by the time I watched "For the Man Who Has Everything," she sounded excellent. Her voice now is Wonder Woman's voice.

I think this is one of the reasons that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are so wonderful at "being" Batman and the Joker. They've literally had years behind the microphone to get comfortable with their characters.

I just love Phil LaMarr's work as John Stewart. He's one of the best VA's in the business, and this is probably his most powerful role.

Frankly, I don't enjoy Kevin Conroy's Batman anymore. I go to my B:TAS DVD set when I want to hear him in his prime.

I Love his voice work even more now!He is more experienced and Batman's gone downright meaner!

I also enjoy his voice now than in BTAS. Going back and watching those eps, it seems like his Batman voice was less natural than it is presently and in TNBA. I personally prefer his voice when TNBA debuted and since then.

Conroy, it's a given.

2nd place would be Rosenbaum for Flash.

I agree completely with your picks for the Big Seven; Conroy has mastered the tortured cynic that is Batman. Rosenbaum's suggestion of immaturity and innocence in his voice for Flash/ Wally West is also very natural and convincing.

No one deserves more thanks for evoking these levels of performance from voice-actors than Andrea Romano. After more than a decade of involvement with Timm & Co. in the DCAU from B:TAS onwards, she has brought all the nuance of speech; pause, tone, inflection, etc. to the animation cel and its many subjects.

I'm going to have to say Carl Lumbly. Much as I loved Conroy as Batman, I feel that Lumbly has become J'onn. Which is no easy thing when he's a shape shifting martian ;)

Conroy, followed by Maria Canals, if only because she pulled the trick of taking someone I didn't care about and helping to make me a Hawkgirl fan.

But there's a lot of talent in that group, which should come as no surprise, given how incredible the voice casting's been in the DCAU since the very beginning. Andrea Romero's ear for voice talent is incredible. The lady deserves more credit.

Ranking from fav to least fav (I love them all BTW)

1. Phil LaMarr - GL/Static/Samurai Jack. WOW is this guy good!
2. Kevin Conroy - I just haven't heard him voice anyone other than Batman. Gives the best Batman performance to date though. I'd like to see him challenged with a different role than the one he's been playing for 12 years. And don't say Thomas Wayne because that doesn't count.
3. George Newbern - A huge improvement over JL Season 1.
4. Maria Canals - She made me care about the animated Hawk Girl.
5. Carl Lumbly - A prefect choice for the Manhunter. His voice is just so wise and peaceful, and that's just who Jo'hn is!
6. Susan Eisenberg - Solid in all her episodes. However she lacks that extra spark that made Conroy, Hamill, and LaMarr such accomplished VA's.
7. Michael Rosenbaum - I like his work, but sometimes his Flash is soo annoying! Then again, that may not be a bad thing after all. :D

I'm gonna rank 'em too:

1. Kevin Conroy. Gets better with age. Much more natural than Batman the Animated Series.

2. Micheal Rosenbaum. Not only does a great Flash, but a great Christopher Walken (Ghoul) and a great Kevin Spacey (Deadshot.)

3. George Newburn. Actually surpasses Tim Daly in a lot of episodes. Started off weak but grew wonderfully into the role.

4. Phil LaMarr. His range is crazy. Makes Static, Green Lantern, Ozzy, Hermes, and Jack sound like five seperate actors.

5. Maria Canals. Not the best, but absolutely NAILED The Terror Beyond and Starcrossed.

6. Carl Lumbly. Not much range in his character's emotion, but sounds WAAAY different here than in Alias.

7. Susan Eisenberg. Like Newburn, a late bloomer. She was wonderful in Maid of Honor, Starcrossed, and For the Man Who Has Everything, but I can't just let Secret Origins, Paradise Lost, and Fury slide.

Since Conroy is of course the easy and obvious choice I had to throw some love in the direction of Carl Lumbly. I knew very little about J'onn before the series and Lumbly brought me right in. I felt that J'onn was a wise martian that was indeed the heart and soul of the League from the first time he opened his mouth.

Passing on the obvious choice, I must echo the love for Phil LaMarr. While his range is the most attention-grabbing thing about him, it's his acting that blows me away. He's crafted a distinct, believable, entirely existing character within his voice, and never does he let the operative or intention of a single line drop. John Stewart is probably one of the few characters I've ever seen in animation who's never, ever had a single jarring moment in his acting, and this is even with lesser episodes like War World and Metamorphosis. Stewart's plotline and conflict in both of those episodes are the best parts about them, and much of it is owed to the superlative emotional work done by Phil LaMarr.

Can I vote Kevin Conroy of 10 years ago? Lately I just feel that he's giving it a half-hearted performance and I agree with someone else's assessment (I had thought it was in this thread, but I guess not) of Kevin Conroy: it's not necessarily that he's out of the groove of being Batman, but it's the writers' use of Batman that makes him just not as well-used and therefore the voice work suffers.

As things stand right now, (that is, not being able to vote for Kevin Conroy of 10 years ago,) I guess I have to vote for George Newbern just based on overall improvement. That man just bombed first season as Superman and then he came back with "Twilight" and blew my mind.

Kevin Conroy is amazing, but I think that he's the best of a group of damned good VA's. Maria Canals, Phil LaMarr, Carl Lumbly, and Michael Rosenbaum managed to just nail their characters since the very start of the show, and Susan Eisenberg and George Newbern have developed incredibly well. It might not be fair to put the six of them in a poll like this with Conroy because Conroy has been Batman for so long, and the others started acting these roles when JL debuted. I know, I know- they're all professionals, so that shouldn't matter- but speaking as a 20 year old who practically grew up with Conroy as Batman, who else am I going to vote for?

I echo the love for all the VA's, and for Andrea Romano. She's spoiled us- I hope we all know that! All of the above, Tim Daly, Dana Delaney, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Clancy Brown, Eileen Sorkin, Michael Ansara, Paul Williams, Adrienne Barbeau, Roddy McDowell, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Ironside, Ron Perlman and far too many others to mention. And then, of course, in a class he shares only with Kevin Conroy, is Mark Hamill.

Andrea Romano has spoiled us rotten!

Wow.

I did just that, and... wow. Some of it I knew, others I could have guessed, but I never dreamed that she was involved in ReBoot or the Jetsons!

Who else thinks that we should worship the ground she walks on?

I voted for Conroy. C'mon now. Who wouldn't be scared crapless if they heard that voice coming from the shadows?

In second place--Michael Rosenbaum

Wow this is a tough question. They are all good and talented and I haven't been disappointed by any of them really. For me it comes down to a to toss up between Kevin Conroy and Phil Lamar. I really like the way both of them have vocally portrayed their characters. But I think Im going to have to give it to Kevin. He truly defines Batman.

It's funny that this thread popped up. I was discussing the DCAU with my little brother the other day. He asked me what the best thing about it was, and I said without hesitation the voice acting. Unlike the Marvel Animated Series (where more often than not voices were miscast), DCAU has always had top-notch voice acting.
My vote went to Conroy. The best Batman ever, even if it's just his voice. Carl Lumbly gets special props. I can't imagine anybody else voicing the Martian Manhunter now.
