Okay, what's the most you're willing to pay for a DVD? I may sound like a cheapskate, but I draw the line at $20, unless it's something I'll die without, which is rare. I'd love to have all Kevin Smith's movies on DVD, the price is the only thing holding me back. But the Blockbuster next to my place of work is always marking pre-veiwed discs down cheap, so I've got some real deals. I got Crouching Tiger for about nine bucks...

Yes, Kevin Smith films are a thorn in my side...I so want to pickup Mall Rats after my TiVo caught it on FX last week, reminded me what a great movie it is...but $30?! The most I ever payed was $30 for Office Space, back when it was released...which is a lot for the quality of extras that film has, not to mention I'm gonna have to rebuy it as a new disc soon.

Normally, the max I'll pay for new releases is $22. I don't really like to buy used, because somestimes they're scratched (even if it doesn't affect playback) and often times the packaging and insterts are either messed up or missing, and I love packaging...

I have set my limit for a movie only DVD with no extras at ten dollars. Outside of that, it depends on the title. Take X FILES season sets, for example. I refuse to pay more than $90.00 for each set (and so far so good, I always manage to find good online deals when it comes out!) and for the Robotech sets, no more than $35.00 for those. And Sopranos? No more than $70.00.

When you get into collectors sets and all these different styles of packaging, you can't say you won't go over a certain price. Obviously, if I pick up a three disc set like Robotech for $35 or a three disc set like Sex and the City for the same price, obviously a four disc set like the Sopranos at it's price is too high. But I feel if I can get it for $70.00 or less, I am doing pretty good.

But $15-$25 for a single disc is ok, again depending on the title. It all depends on the circumstance. You have to make allowances for Kevin Smith's movies on DVDs and hope you find deals on other DVDs you want to make up for the money you lost on his movies. Then you have to consider if it's a smaller title and the expense of the studio to put the title out. TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME is being delayed because of the cost of the deleted footage. They will not release the DVD until the secure the rights to the deleted footage, so when it comes out, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's not priced higher than other DVDs because of the extra cost that went into putting it together. And I would pay more money for it.

In closing, I think we are damn lucky to beable to buy these titles on DVD for such a low price. If you compared the prices of DVDs to Laserdisc, nobody would be crying about thirty dollars for a single disc, or even seventy dollars for four disc sets. Sometimes I think we forget that. I am just glad DVD is as mainstream as it is or we might be paying $90.00 for one DVD.

Regarding used DVDs, sometimes you get real lucky. I got some recently that were pristine, brand new, and altho they were "used" they were obviously never played or take great care of. If you buy them online, beware, but if you can get them in a store, you have a chance to look at them before you take them out of the store. And the store I got them from put the stickers on the shrink wrap they put over the DVDs, so there were none of their stickers on the DVDs, nothing. And they were all under ten bucks and normally they would cost about twenty to twenty five dollars new. It's just a matter of knowing where to look and once you find a good place, to keep going there.

I draw my limit for DVDs at $22 unless it's just something that I really, really want. Some I'll pay more for, but I'll NEVER pay $30 for a single(or double disc) DVD.

Well, yes and no. When it comes to purchasing anime, the price usually ranges from $24-$30 (without discounts). I'm willing to pay the prices for those, and I pretty much always buy them online, so I never really pay those prices anyway.
When it comes to non-anime, I really don't want to pay over $20 unless I really, really like it

Check out www.dvdplanet.com and www.playcentric.com for other sites with awesome prices. And even some of those animes go for lower amounts on there, which is a plus when most of them go for near thirty dollars for one DVD!

$20 for me..I did pay $23 for ROTJoker Edited though...mainly because I couldn't find it ANYWHERE.

Other than ROTJ, most of my DVD's have been $17.99 and under...

my bro is the same way..he doesn't like paying anymore than $20 for a DVD...but, he does occasionally...

Hey, that's great, thanks :) Another wonderful place to check out is www.bestprices.com. They've got some pretty cool deals. I've yet to order from them though, simply because I'm pretty low on cash right now :(
