Good question, I was wondering the same. Anyone know? Anyone?! He seems like someone from a "lesser" hero's rogue gallary, but I could be wrong...

From what I recall from Rogues Gallery 101, Solomon Grundy started out as a villain of the Golden Age Green Lantern. Grundy, a swamp beast, played against Lantern's [then] vulnerability to wood. Since then, Grundy's become less defined as an arch-villain. Recently, he's been an ongoing villain of Batman (The Long Halloween) and, most notably, in the recent Starman series.
Overall, he's kind of weird--he can be evil and destructive sometimes yet innocent other times. He's not technically anyones arch-villain right now...he's just someone that DC writers can throw against anybody.

I have an old Superman digest in which Grundy fights Supes and Swamp Thing. It seemed to imply that Supes and Grundy were old enemies.

Karkull is right about Solomon Grundy if you were going to put him in anybodys Rouge Gallery he'd be a part of the Golden Age GL (Alan Scott) 's . He was most recently seen in a issue of JSA. He's a very misunderstood character. For a time he even hung out with Alan Scotts kids as a part Of Infinity Inc. and was very protective of Scott's daughter Jade if I remeber correctly at that time.

I think Grundy is pretty interchangable. I've seen him go against Batman, Superman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and the Flash. I think it's pretty cool to have an interchangable villian, but he was bets used in LONG HALLOWEEN. He was so well written in that series.

I believe that Grundy is indeed a Golden Age JSA villain in current Post Crisis continuity. He also appeared in Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory, and it made it look like Grundy was a Bat-Villain. But JSA.
