I just saw the news on the front page...the Gargs season one box set comes out December 7, 2004...and all I can say is *ahem*
three-thousand-six-hundred and eighty days ago
sorcery and sci-fi ruled afternoons
it was a time of Trek actors, it was a world of "let's watch something besides power rangers" it was the time-slot of GARGOYLES
statuary by day, dark gothic teenage mutant ninja batmen by night
we were betrayed by the studio we helped to save, doomed to late-night expanded basic cable and horrible edits for ten years
but now, here in 2004, the show is on DVD and WE LIVE AGAIN
we are once more uncut
WE ARE GARGOYLES!!!

[LMAO] AMEN TO THAT! "Let's watch something besides Power Rangers"! HAHAHAHA! Ahh, priceless.
But thanks for the news! Hearing that is music to my ears! FINALLY, an official release date! I encourage all Gargoyles fans to please buy the DVD when it comes out! Though thirty dollars is a tad expensive... oh, well, start saving up! :D

I think 29.99 is pretty standard for a 13 episode set. Plus, that's just suggested retail price which no one actually sells at. It will probably be found many places for much closer to $20.

Ratings war? Could you give me a link? You've made me curious.
I don't believe in ratings. Sure, good ratings mean new episodes, but the timeless, memorable shows that really make a difference in people's lives don't always get good ratings (there are notable exceptions, of course). I just prefer quality over quantity. Sure, Gargoyles only has 66 canon episodes, but I never get tired of them (and I've been watching them since 1994), and many, many fans feel the same way. Just think... after ten years, people are still watching this show and talking about it. That's really saying something.

Here's something I caught at the Station 8 comment room:
"Greg Weisman announced that the highly-anticipated Season 1 DVD set will contain two discs, and will be relesaed on December 7 with a $29.99 SRP. The set will contain the first 13 episodes of this Disney animated series, and bonus features are expected to include commentaries for each episode, conceptual artwork, crew interviews, and a featurette on "The Gathering.""
Damn, I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year!!

I remember that! That's from Turbo, right? Oh, I loved the original Power Rangers. If it hadn't been for that show, I never would've learned the names of the dinosaurs so quickly. I even watched the first movie, which I liked. I even watched the Turbo movie, and that's when I completely lost all my love for Power Rangers. A little kid becoming the Blue Ranger?!! And then he BECAME AN ADULT every time he became the Blue Ranger?!! I guess they just couldn't find a little kid who was also a gymnastic, so they took a shortcut. Ugh, it makes me want to gag. How much cornier can you be?
Billie was my favorite, and then they just... ruined it. Why are they still making new episodes anyway? How many sequels can one show have anyway? It's like The Land Before Time... it just won't end...
Anyway, back to Gargoyles. Nearly ten years old and it's still watched by people OF ALL AGES. Wow... I love this show. I still regret that I wasn't able to make it to The Gathering. Keith David (the voice of Goliath) is there!!! Cruel, unfair world...

20-30 bucks for thirteen episodes? Seems kind of a shaft, especially when I just bought forty episodes of a series for 32 bucks..
I guess they just couldn't find a little kid who was also a gymnastic, so they took a shortcut.Carranger had an adult Blue Ranger. Kinda had to match American and Japanese footage there...
Turbo's best episodes were the Passing The Torch and Chase Into Space... ignore anything else.
Interesting how Gargoyles topics usually seem to somehow have talk about Power Rangers in them...
Anyway, you can't have Gargoyles season sets without commentary. Greg obviously has a lot to say about each episode, it'd be a shame not to have it.
52 episodes=13 per set=4 sets for season 2. That's how I'd do it, anyway.
There's no way I'm going to not pick this set up. :D

They air on the same block now, they used to be squared off against each other on Saturday mornings, the Rangers are the only reason I'm watching Gargoyles (and Gargoyles is the only reason Willie C.'s watching Rangers), their both action epics of the '90s, both owned by Disney, by have highly-wanted DVD box sets...

You can't seriously compare that cheesefest to Gargoyles, can you?Eh, that whole "500+ episodes of a single continuity" thing, coupled with awesome action scenes (The invasion of the Power Chamber, the Starship Troopers-borrowed intro to Lost Galaxy, the final battle on Terra Venture, the Forever Red fight [up until Cole saved the day with his flying motorcycle]), giant robots, surprisingly dark/deep moments for children's television (Kendrix died fighting Psycho Pink, Alex was murdered in the first episode of Time Force, TF's whole theme of destiny and fate) coupled with slapstick humor (Gotta like Bulk and Skull, and their spiritual successors Devin and Cassidy).
I guess if it was animated, it wouldn't have nearly as big an effect. Gargoyles has similar moments, but it sure hasn't caught my eye like those that the Power protects did.
How will they release Gargoyle DVDs? I betcha they do it in Transformer fashion. IE-
Season 1
Season 2 Part 1
Season 2 Part 2 + The Goliath Chronicles

I doubt they're gonna release The Goliath Chronicles with Seaon Two since Greg Weisman says it isn't in continuity.
I tried watching Dino Thunder recently (it was the one with the girl singer who had been getting distant with her old Ranger girlfriend), and it was pretty unwatchable. Please tell me that was an off episode. I saw the whole thing thinking of you and I was unimpressed. It struck me as warmed over 90210 crap. I loved the original series because it WAS campy and cheesy and revelled in it unashamedly. These attempts by the Dino Thunder writers to make the show "less" campy and more "realistic" seemed to fail BIG TIME in my book only making the show more laughable.

52 episodes=13 per set=4 sets for season 2. That's how I'd do it, anyway.I'd LOVE four sets of season 2. Or maybe they could split it between, say, Pre-World Tour, World Tour, and Post-World Tour.
I'm not looking forward to a set of The Goliath Chronicles, though. That season reminds me of Power Rangers. Bad writing centered only on action and not on the characters, corny plots, stereotypical characters... I'm guessing it was made back in 1997 to compete with Power Rangers on the same level. Boy, did they screw up.
Opinion: Power Rangers was so inane that I don't understand how anyone can want a DVD set of it. You can't seriously compare that cheesefest to Gargoyles, can you?You hit the nail right on the head! I'm with you on this one, man! But wouldn't it be great if they'd produce a bonus episode for the DVD? Maybe that double date episode Greg Weisman had planned... Oh, I'd kill to see that!
And I think thirty dollars is reasonable. It's the long-anticipated DVD of a great series, the celebration of its tenth anniversary, with bonus features. How can it NOT cost thirty dollars? Plus it'll be great to be able to watch the episodes with great image quality again (no rusty tapes) and no logos.
Eh, that whole "500+ episodes of a single continuity" thingI'd still rather have only sixty-six canon episodes of great quality than five hundred of poor quality. Quality over quantity. Makes sense, right?
One thing I've noticed about Power Rangers is that the action is just... there. The action in Gargoyles isn't gratuitous. That's what I love about the show... there's a reason for the action, for each and every murder... no gratuitous scenes. It's not twenty-two minutes of toy advertising (Gargoyles showed three toys in the series, but they had struck a deal with Kenner) And of course, there's none of that "let's take over the world/universe 'cause we're so evil" or "let's destroy the universe and conveniently forget we're part of it" clichéd plots.
I saw this commercial for DinoThunder once... They were fighting a GIANT CUCUMBER? I think it was a cucumber. It was big and green and had large pimples on it. THAT'S the bad guy? A giant cucumber?!
I also caught the first act of one of the DinoThunder episodes once. I think the White Ranger got cloned in it. The other rangers actually got them mixed up, even though the bad White Ranger had just attacked them and the good ranger had shown up to help! And the dialogue made me cringe, especially that, "WHATever!" line... It was simply unwatchable, IMO; I couldn't even get past act one before feeling the urge to change the channel. Even the theme song was unbearable.
Well, the show appears to be a success among younger viewers (otherwise, why would the show still be running?) I once saw a little boy playing with Power Rangers toys and enjoying himself immensely. I wondered why his mother let him watch that instead of something more intelligent, but maybe I'm just missing the point. I guess it's the simplicity that appeals to them.
Heh, I didn't even know that older viewers watched Power Rangers until I came to the Toon Zone forums. Learn something new every day, huh?

I doubt they're gonna release The Goliath Chronicles with Seaon Two since Greg Weisman says it isn't in continuity.
I don't think saying it's not in continuity means Disney won't try to make money off of it. I believe many hated Season 3 of Transformers, but they sure as heck threw it on the Season 2 Part 2 Set.
1997's PR was Zeo, written by the current guy (Doug Sloan, many a fan's favorite writer... consider him PR's Greg Wiseman). Plagued by actor fallouts (Billy just kinda began disappearing) and a boneheaded move by Saban to change the outfits ("Ohranger was so good against Sailor Moon in Japan, how about we adapt more than the robots for PR Season 4?").
I'm still waiting for judgement on The Goliath Chronicles. Currently, they sound much better than the hopefully-soon-forgotten World Tour.
Spider-Man: The New Animated Series goes for 20 bucks with 13 episodes. Simpsons Seasons 2 and 3, with 26 episodes (or around there) go for 30... and that's with each episode having commentary and all. Heck, I just picked up the extra-filled Steel Angel Kurumi Complete Collection (40 episodes) for 32 bucks.
Namely... Disney could sell this for less... but I have a feeling they don't expect it to do great, so they want to make as much money back from it as possible.
I saw this commercial for DinoThunder once... They were fighting a GIANT CUCUMBER? I think it was a cucumber. It was big and green and had large pimples on it. THAT'S the bad guy? A giant cucumber?!
Humorous considering that we're talking about Gargoyles... if I remember correctly, that was a joint Jalapeno/Teddy Bear/Copier monster. They haven't really covered it, but all DT monsters are three items combined.
The other rangers actually got them mixed up, even though the bad White Ranger had just attacked them and the good ranger had shown up to help! Considering that the White Ranger started off evil, capturing their zords and trapping Tommy in amber... and had doublecrossed them before... if a White Ranger just kicked your butt, you'd be wary.
Heh, I didn't even know that older viewers watched Power Rangers until I came to the Toon Zone forums. Learn something new every day, huh? They brought back an actor who hasn't been seen for years outside of crossovers as the star of this series. If that's not something for older fans alone, I dunno what is.
Please tell me that was an off episode. I saw the whole thing thinking of you and I was unimpressed. It struck me as warmed over 90210 crap. Each season offers something different. Sloan compared this season to Smallville (action series with light drama), and it's drastically different from Time Force (cop show in spandex, debates about fate and destiny) or Lost Galaxy (space epic with death as a real threat [well, death is always a threat, but Lost Galaxy has the record for deaths... somewhere in the 20s]).

I don't think saying it's not in continuity means Disney won't try to make money off of it.
Sad but true... I'd rather they include "The Journey" (TGC's first episode and the only one Greg Weisman wrote) in Season 2's DVDs and not release The Goliath Chronicles. But maybe for the sake of having the complete set, I'll change my mind.
Plagued by actor fallouts (Billy just kinda began disappearing)
Oh, so THAT's why they had the little kid as the Blue Ranger. It's a pity, though. Billy was the only reason I watched the show, and since he's gone... Kimberly was awesome, too.
I'm still waiting for judgement on The Goliath Chronicles. Currently, they sound much better than the hopefully-soon-forgotten World Tour.
True, not every Gargoyles fan likes The World Tour, but I enjoy it because of its fantasy elements, among other things. And it did bring more elements into the series that would've become apparent had the series continued.
And I'm almost 100% positive you'll hate TGC. It's just so poorly written and the animation is awful. The most hated episode is "To Serve Mankind," and I won't tell you why because it could be considered a spoiler (how do you make spoiler boxes anyway?)
If you do like TGC more than Gargoyles, then obviously, Gargoyles (the original sixty-six episodes) is not for you.
As for the price for the DVD... $29.99 is the retail price and it could go lower. And I know many fans will buy the DVD, but I'm not sure if it will actually be a hit. I'm also worried about how much Disney will promote this thing and where it will actually sell it. I hope the commercials aren't silly and that the cover isn't as awful as the one for "The Heroes Awaken" (Goliath looked PINK!) Disney has a habit of doing that. Here's hoping...
if I remember correctly, that was a joint Jalapeno/Teddy Bear/Copier monster. They haven't really covered it, but all DT monsters are three items combined.
Jalapeño/Teddy Bear/Copier monster? And that doesn't sound silly to you?
Considering that the White Ranger started off evil, capturing their zords and trapping Tommy in amber... and had doublecrossed them before... if a White Ranger just kicked your butt, you'd be wary.

If you do like TGC more than Gargoyles, then obviously, Gargoyles (the original sixty-six episodes) is not for you. Or maybe I just like it for different reasons.
Kimberly was awesome, too. The original script for Forever Red had a mention that Kimberly married Skull...
Jalapeño/Teddy Bear/Copier monster? And that doesn't sound silly to you? Blame Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger. It was a silly series. It's dubbing in "Lost and Found in Translation" was not an exageration...
So... why do they trust him now? Or do they?He was originally under the control of the white DinoGem. Not anymore.
Oh, so THAT's why they had the little kid as the Blue Ranger.Plotwise, it was because Rocky hurt his back bad. Behind-The-Scenes-wise, Steve Cardenas was just ready to move on, I believe. Never seen after the "Shift Into Turbo" arc.
And I know many fans will buy the DVD, but I'm not sure if it will actually be a hit.I'm guessing the same amount that will buy such releases as "Boy Meets World Season 1" or "Quantum Leap Season 1". Good shows, but not big enough for a normal person to buy. I'd say less than "Batman: The Complete First Season" is doing or "Power Rangers in Space: The Complete Series" would do, considering both have currently popular incarnations...
Sorry, Countdown to Destruction's back on...

I now kinda dread Gargoyle topics, because people who should know better like to hijack the threads. I shouldn't have got sucked in. I'll just say that the excuses are pathetic...I could easily turn every "24" topic into an "Alias" debate because the shows share a few basic connections, but it's annoying and wrong.
Final thought: The situation was put up or shut up, and fans chose the later, so quit complaining about not getting the box sets you damned out of existance. End of story...and PR discussion.
Topic: I'd REALLY hope they'd not break up Season 2 of Gargoyles for the box set...but if they did, I'd hope they'd make the split at the point where new episodes dried up during the original airings. Greg and co made episodes 14-"The Green" in 10 months(!) then made the rest in another batch.

Eh, and about PR... Things to consider about Power Rangers (for those who don't know):
1) Power Rangers is based off a series in Japan... which is still running. Given that fact, plus the fact that a new generation of kids seems to be draw into each incarnation as fast as they go out, PR my remain on the air with no end in sight.
2) Also worthy to note, PR borrows only the concepts, zords, and ranger suits/colors from the original series. They make individual episodes instead of taking the originals and dubbing them... though some major story arcs may remain mostly intact.
3) Power Rangers' season sets are highly unlikely, since most parents believe it's one of the shows you can see on TV everyday (which it is, if you have ABC Family) and they won't be willing to shell out that much money for stuff they can see everyday (even if it's the old episodes, they'll all distinguish them as the same). As for the older fans, there aren't many people out there who would be willing to spend that money either (or be willing to admit they actually liked the series).
That's how I feel on the subject. Um, let's see, to keep on topic... something Gargoyles related...
I'd say Season 2 would have to be released in at least 3 sets, minimum, though it's likely Disney will go for four. Hopefully the Season 1 set sells really well, so we can see Season 2 sets as well as sets for other Disney shows.
Maybe I should be glad I never got to see Goliath Chronicles. My local ABC station never aired it, and only when I went out of town to visit relatives did I manage to catch it once and only once. Must not have been good, 'cause I don't remember a thing about it. Not even an episode title.

More information, straight from The Gathering of the Gargoyles and Gargoyles News Central:
"At the opening ceremonies of The Gathering, Greg Weisman announced that the Gargoyles two-disc DVD set will be released on December 7, 2004 for a retail price of $29.99. The episodes will be unedited. The audio commentary is for the Awakening multi-parter only, and includes comments by Greg Weisman, Frank Paur and Keith David. The DVD will also include the original show pitched by Greg Weisman and a documentary of the Gathering convention. Toon Disney and ABC Family are labeled as the distributors, which means they should also be promoting the DVD on their respective stations. Greg Weisman will announce further efforts to organize fans to spread the word and perhaps select a day for everyone to buy the discs from Amazon. An Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JNEL/qid=1091423369/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-8385268-8147929?v=glance&s=dvd) page (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JNEL/qid=1091423369/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-8385268-8147929?v=glance&s=dvd) for its sale is already up (thanks to Julio Rodriguez for finding the link)."

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series goes for 20 bucks with 13 episodes.
That's what it is actually sold for, not the Suggested Retail Price. The SRP is $30 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000VCZLG/qid=1092121355/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/103-6274292-7174233?v=glance&s=dvd), just like Gargoyles. Gargoyles should actually sell for about $20 (just like Spider-man). DVDs don't usually sell for the SRP.
