The Spheal of Approval

Originally Aired: May 29, 2004

Visiting the local museum, known as the Oceanic Museum, Ash and company see a special rock that is said to be a part of the legendary Groudon. Well, where there's Groudon, Team Magma's not far behind. Can Ash, along with a Spheal, stop Team Magma from retrieving the fragment, or has Team Magma finally acquired the piece they need to revive the mighty Groudon?

Comments: As with the last episode, I missed this when it first premiered, which is why the episode description sounds very thin.

All in a Day's Wurmple

Originally Aired: January 3, 2004

While traveling in random forest #4912093, May sees a cute little Bug-type named Pokémon named Wurmple. She decides to catch it, but Team Rocket, specifically Jessie, want to capture the same Wurmple. During the struggle, May is separated from the rest of the group and meets up with a young trainer named Franklin. Meanwhile, Ash learns about 2-on-2 battling Hoenn-style from another kid named...Franklin! Wha? What's going on here?

Comments: Technically Ash's 2nd 2-on-2 battle (he had one in the Orange League), this is a decent enough episode. While Wurmple's antics aren't as funny as Caterpie-and-Misty's antics from Kanto, it's still funny. It took May long enough to catch a Pokémon...

Gonna Rule the School!

Originally Aired: January 10th, 2004

Ash and the gang have finally made it to Rustboro City, and almost immediately meet up with the Gym Leader, Roxanne. She gives the gang a tour of her school, where young trainers learn the finer points of battling. Max enrolls for a little while and participates in his first battle with another student, pitting his Magby against Max's borrowed Poliwag. Of course, Team Rocket's not gonna let them have any fun without them around!

Comments: Remember when we didn't have the obligatory set-up episode prior to a Gym Battle? I wish there was another Gym Battle like the Sabrina Battle from Kanto. Also, the production staff seem to have forgotten that Forretress is a Steel-type as well as a Bug-type...

Jump for Joy!

Heading out to Mauville City, Ash and the gang stop over in a cliff-top Pokémon Center to rest up, but Nurse Joy has gone missing! What could have happened? And what's with all the Seedot, Nuzleaf, and a Shiftry? And how long will it take for Team Rocket to attack?

Comments: FINALLY! A new episode! This one looks to be interesting, and Shiftry are one of the more interesting Pokémon in the game...

A Different Kind of Misty!

Nope, this ain't Misty's grand return, though it is coming soon. Team Rocket has stolen a special stone that powers the local lighthouse, and now Ash and company have to get it back quick! They won't be alone, as the electric duo of Plusle and Minun are ready and willing to help out!

Comments: Yay. Plusle. Minun. They make their debut. Can you note my excitement? And I thought Pichu was annoying...

NOTES

Kids' WB! finally plays new episodes today!.
Spheal and Sealeo are the unevolved forms of Wailrein, one of the more popular Pokémon from Ruby/Sapphire.
Sheesh, all my other notes are in my comments. :P
Plusle and Minun make a re-appearence in Movie #7.
My CN Talkback partner, Red Giant, is now doing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Talkbacks.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but next Saturday's episode (the 14th) is "All in a Day's Wurmple." And "Gonna Rule the School!" airs the Saturday after that (the 21st).

At this point, there's no telling when "Jump for Joy" will premiere.

Because it's been reruns?

And there's really not much new to say in the latest AG eps.

Yea, but still...

Supposedly the next new episode will be at the end of the month.

Since I'm too lazy to make a "new episode Talkback," I'll just reuse this one. Info updated about the next two episodes.

So which episode is coming on Saturday?

first episode was much better then the second!

Treecko vs Shiftree was a great battle :) really it was pretty awesome! and Max showed his usefullness again by telling Ash and May which pokemon to use. Brock was pretty annoying as usual when a Nurse Joy is around but at least he got embarassed by screaming like a girl ehee!

another lighthouse episode it seems like all the sagas have one of these. this one wasn't very good. just how many times can Team Rocket keep coming back  the Plusle and Minun were pretty cute Pika clones at least

Yeah, the first episode was great, I also liked the battle between Treecko and Shiftree. At first, I thought Treecko would probably evolve, but Nurse Joy was able to stop them. Taillow did a good job in chasing off the Nuzleaf earlier on too. It seems that when a Pokemon does something that seems bad, in the end, it alway's has good intentions.

I guess since most Pokemon can't speak the human language, Shiftree just took Nurse Joy to the problem instead of trying to convince her, which would've been much more difficult probably.

That iron tail Pikachu has learned is really coming in handy and the Magnemite got knocked out with one quick attack? xD. The puns that Meowth and James say when they're getting blasted off or stealing a pokemon are alway's amusing xD.

It was amazing that Pikachu was able to hear Ash from that far when it was Pokenapped xD. It was pretty cool in the end though when Plusle and Minun charged up Pikachu and it was able to finish off Team Rocket and their Zapdos mech.

-It really, really bugged me that they kept mis-identifing Sleep Powder as Stun Spore in "Jump for Joy!"
-Is it just me, or did the animators get lazy with attacks somewhat? Ember, Bubble, and Bullet Seed all look the same, except that they're different colors.(I know that Ember, at least, wasn't like that before AG)
---
-Mountains. A nice change of pace from the endless forests that cover Pokemon land. Sure, they were still kind of forest-y, but...
-I wish that whats-his-name(you know, the kid with the Plusle & Minun) would have called Ash by something other than Hero(namely, his name :P ) more often. It sounds odd otherwise.
-Ash's "hero lessons" were...odd?...the hero attitude comes AFTER the hero powerress! Everyone knows that :O
-The Mecha Zapdos was the first TR Mecha to be based on a Legendary Pokemon, am I right? And you'd think Ash would learn by now that TR has learned by now to electric-proof everything.

Electricution still sometimes works. I mean, having Pikachu charged up, overloading the mecha-Zapdos, and shocking the hell out of them certainly worked. Just 'cause it's shock-resistent doesn't mean it's shock-proof.

Yeah, the first episode was great, I also liked the battle between Treecko and Shiftree.
Actually, I was also pretty surprised. It was actually well choreographed. Just as good as a major tournament battle. Lots of movement and quick dodges.

BTW, I still don't get why the episode was called "A Different Kind of Misty". What was it? The fog? Kind of a lameass episode name. I was expecting to see Misty come back. I know it's coming soon. It was kinda weird though 'cause the girl (same VA as Misty) sounded like an older Misty.

If Kids' WB! doesn't skip any episodes, the Misty two-parter arrives in September. And this is the first one-timer character Rachel Lillis has done in a while...

Same here. Then again, Sleep Powder has kinda disappeared for a while now. Ever since (I believe) the Orange Islands, 4Kids just calls any kind of power Stun Spore.

Ember changed depending on who used it. For Charmander is was basically the same as Torchic, except Charmander's didn't glow. Charizard's, however, looked like a combination of Flamethrower and Fire Blast. As for Bubble/Bubblebeam, I believe it's just Corphish, as it's spitting out a LOT more bubbles than Squirtle ever did.

I was kinda hoping Ash would get the inspiration to teach Treeko Bullet Seed this episode. Oh well.

Shiftry was a pretty cool Pokémon, I'd have liked to see it battle Charizard.

BTW, there were so many shots in "Jump For Joy!" that, in any other anime, would have been panty shots or some other fanservice. XD

As for the second episode...it was decent. Plusle & Minun suck, and apparently that Magnemite does as well.

:D A pokemon kidnapper and TR stealing something from the get go. An interesting hour. The Plusle and Minun and the Hero Lessons were very amusing.

That's why they called it "A Different Kind of Misty" - to show that it's not the Misty you're thinking of, while at the same time teasing you about it. :p

I thought TR grabbing somthing in the begining of the episode was pretty interesting too, but a nice change. Both episodes had nice little scenes, especially the treeko battle, so the episodes were alright. Can't wait till this weekend when they finally go to the trick house( yes, I played the game:D ).
