I love comics but I've always been into marvel and never got into DC. So I have a few questions
1. Is Mongul as powerful as Darkseid?
2. Could Orion defeat Superman in battle?
3. What is Solomon Grundy's origin, who can beat him, and can he be killed?
4. Could a Green Lantern defeat Darkseid?
5. Does anyone have a comic pic of Draaga?
6. Is there a website out there that has comic bios on the villains of DC comics? I know marvel has one.

First off, you should know that DC Comics generally don't adhere to character strength classifications as stringently as Marvel does. Marvel puts their characters in very specific strength classes, like Class 100 and the like. They are much more specific w/the measurements of their characters' powers. DC is more likely to say that Aquaman could easily lift a bus than say that he can press 25 tons on dry land. They might say that GL's ring can produce a beam that can punch through the side of a mountain rather than sat that GL's ring can generate "x" amount of PSI. So comparing characters power head-to-head is a little trickier for us fans and provides writers a whole lot more freedom.

1. In the comics, probably not.

2. In the comics, also probably not. After being "de-powered" somewhat in the mid-80's, Supes seems to be more and more powerful these days. In the animated series, it's more difficult to say. They were both pretty strong in the episode "Apokolips Now."

3. Boy, this is long one. Try this website http://shop.store.yahoo.com/thundermall/dcdirjsasolg.html

4. With enough willpower, perhaps. But I think that Darkseid has at least an equal amount of willpower. Others may disagree.

5. I've been looking on the net and I can't find one. Maybe someone on the boards here can post a picture from a comic. I think Draaga was also known as Scorn, can anyone confirm that?

6. As was stated, try the DC Comics website.

I hope that helped somewhat.

Hot Rod, those are some good questions. Unfortunatley, those are questions I can't answer. You mentioned you are a big Marvel fan. What Marvel titles do you read? Also, if you decide to start collecting DC, what titles are you interedted in collecting?

Thanks for the website guys. I used to read alot of Spiderman comics growing up along with the Hulk and Darkhawk. If I started collecting DC comics I would probably start with the JLA, Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern. I've always liked those characters but for some reason I never got around to them.

1. Is Mongul as powerful as Darkseid?

Im gonna have to say no. I mean, Mongul is pitiful, Superman beat him before. Darkseid though, he's fried supes with an eye beam. Whether its physically or mentally, Darkseid is more powerfull.

2. Could Orion defeat Superman in battle?

Its never technically been done, Id say with his motherbox and his little flying thingy he could beat supes cuz he went nuts with it in JLA and blew a ton of alien stuff up that supes couldn't. Just Orion himself though would get mad and run into a wall before supes could hurt him.
3. What is Solomon Grundy's origin, who can beat him, and can he be killed?

Anyone can die and come back in comics! As for his origin, I have no clue, Ill look it up and get back to ya, it could be in a secret origins comic.
4. Could a Green Lantern defeat Darkseid?
Yep. Not in a real fight, but in his comic he did beat Darkseid's forces before. Around the issue 88 or something.
5. Does anyone have a comic pic of Draaga?
I think somewhere I might, again, let me get back to you.
6. Is there a website out there that has comic bios on the villains of DC comics? I know marvel has one.

Basically, its divided up. Animated villains can be found here, and at the offical animated sites. For comics, itd be a long list. There are a ton. On yahoo just type in the name of a villain and it usually finds it on some list on a site. Ive found golden age sites, silver age sites, sites just on the 80's time of DC Comics..... depends on your era. I would recommend picking up the DCU villain secret origins, JLA secret origins #1 for a guide to all the villains and their names over the last 30-40 years, and probably Silver Age and Golden Age secret files. Their handy comics, but a bit pricy.

If you want sites for super-heroes and villains, this is the most complete one I've found (I don't remember how I found it, but it's always been a huge help for me):

http://members.tripod.com/~ProfStein/dculist.html

And if you can't find a great site there, the sites listed also have a links section within them.

Honestly, I don't find the DC site very resourceful as far as characters go (actually, now that I'm looking at it, it whiped out its Secret Files section).

According to Wizard's The Dark Book: A Comprehensive Look at Comic Book Villains, Solomon Grundy was originally Cyrus Gold, a man who was murdered and dumped into Slaughter Swamp, where his corpse eventually mutated into a zombie-like swamp beast. He was eventually found by a group of criminals who named him Solomon Grundy because all the creature could remember was that he was "born on a monday (it's from an old nursery rhyme)." The crooks taught him to be a criminal, and the rest is history.
