Happy Birthday Paul!

What can I say? You're a great guy - humble, humorous and creative. Can't wait to see what you've done with Circe, Zanna, Diana and Bruce...and something about the synopsis on the official JLU site has me thinking it's going to be a "musical" episode. About time! And if it ain't...hey at least Diana's getting some characterization, right?

Hope you spend your day with your pet and your lady (is it still the 'witchy' one (your words, not mine) you mentionned you spent the holidays with last year?) and everyone else you love, and be sure to eat lots of decadent goodies. Feel alive. Feel free. Go buy something expensive off Ebay and don't regret it. I suggest the new She-Ra figure, but hey...she's to me what Zanna is to you, so I'm a bit biased.

Hmm...that makes him two years older than my Mom...

Anyway, I want to wish one of the best TV/comic writers around a joyous birthday too. Dini remains the best writer to have ever tackled the animated Batman because he has a quality even very good writers lack: the ability to come at you from out of left field and do so successfully. In his best scripts (among them Out of the Past and the original ROTJ) there's always a daring charge of surprise--a spark of shock that's pleasurable and invigorating. He's also not afraid to be justifiably cruel to his characters and the reader (in the way that Shakespeare was cruel when he killed Cordelia), which perhaps accounts for why he was the perfect writer to bring the Joker to life. It's a talent that separates the men from the boys.

Happy birthday to a singularly unique and uniquely virtuosic writer: a pro among pros whose work can either wrench or thrill your heart depending on what his talent and mood dictate.
