Tomorrow at 8:30pm after an all new episode of the repulsive FAMILY GUY! I recommend catching THE TICK. It's been getting great reviews across the board! I'll definatly be tuning in.

Why, why won't The Family Guy die?

James Harvey

The shows a complete rip-off job yet seems to have the resilience of a cockraoch. At least Friends isn't in dange rof any competition outside Survivor. I think Family Guy won't even make a peep.

IT JUST WON'T GO AWAY...(sob)...

I can't believe the idiocy of the FOX network. They kill off Action, they preempt The Simpsons, they give Futurama the worst timeslots (and preempt it until December)--and they bring back The Family Guy, what, four times? Where's the justice?

Back to topic: I don't have much faith in The Tick being any good, but I hope it is. I find it disheartening that they couldn't get the rights to the cartoon characters (you just can't replace American Maid and Die Fledermaus) and will be focusing on "every-day life" instead of fighting crime. What, no Chairface Chippendale? No Chainsaw Vigilante? Multiple Santa?

I fear for the franchise.

Hey, now, I know I am not the only one here who still likes Family Guy! I had heard that they are putting a season one DVD set out of it in the UK (I believe one of our UK members mentioned it on the DVD Discussion board) so I hope we get to see one here soon, too. I know you'd all buy one, right!

I'd buy them only to burn them. I hate that show.

Don't. The show is great! I saw a bootleg copy of the premier at the WizardWorld Chicago this summer, and it was hilarious. Trust me, its the Tick all the way. I hadn't heard anything about it focusing on "every-day life", but I can tell you that's not how the premier was - there was plenty of rooftop-jumping, bad-guy pounding action.

Okay, you talked me into it. How was Patrick Warburton?

I think this calls for a revival of the animated series! Perhaps Comedy Central could pull it out of the dungeon and put it on at a respectable time (Say, how about at 9pm after the live action Tick airs! There is a novel idea!).

I am definatly there for the TICK premiere. I have been waiting for this show since it was announced last year. If it was an hour - it's be perfect. No FAMILY GUY on before hand to drag it down, but then it would be up against FRIENDS. I am deifnatly all for the TICK show. www.thefourthrail.com gave the show a good review, and I've been seeing good reviews all across the net so I'm too worried.

I thought he was excellent in the role - he pulls the character off beautifully. Of course, there's that odd change in the mask to get used to - its sort of jarring to see his whole face like that, but once you get used to it, it seems just like the Tick we all know and love.

I just dread the Thursday night time slot. Nothing survives on Fox at that time slot. How long will it be before they go back to putting on cop videos and animals attacking and the sort?

James Harvey

Yeah - there's a chance it will find it's niche. TheWB's Thuersday line up has flourished over the year, becoming the network's #2 night after Tuesday. While the shows don't pull in 27 mill people like FRIENDS, they still pull in about 9 - 10 mill people, which isn't bad. I think FOX can do better than that.

You all forgot about WWF Smackdown, that also is a Thursday night competitor.

Popstars 2 and Elimidate Deluxe are the shows that should be canceled.

Family Guy is a 20th Century FOX show, and it won an emmy last year, that is why it came back. If the PJs were produced by FOX, they would probably still be on the air as well. Family Guy is usually better than King of the Hill.

FOX gives their animated shows a chance, unlike the WB, who would rather show garbage such as Elimidate.

IMO, WB had better animated shows than Family Guy. Mission Hill and Oblongs were infinitely better than Family Guy (and I do enjoy Family Guy, but those were better!) and look how lousy they treated those shows. It's sad, really.

I'm definitely tuning in...I wasn't much of a fan of the cartoon one though..I think it was because I didn't get any of the jokes..hehe

The face mask does bother me a little bit. The reason why the Tick (and Arthur) had that half mask with the pupil-less eyes (and never took it off) was because he wasn't supposed to be anything but a superhero--nothing but a walking costume with a visible chin. No history, no name, and no personality beyond that.

Now that you see his eyes...you're reminded that there is a person under there. It will take some getting used to.

Well, let's see what i can clear up:

As far as i know, the new Die Fledremaus and American Maid are pretty much exactly like their cartoon counterparts, personality wise. They just couldn't get the rights to the characters made up for the cartoon that weren't in the comic.

As for the "every-day life" thing, i think they just mean that to say that it's not the usual superhero show. I haven't seen the live-action show yet, but i imagine the "every-day life" thing is stuck in there to describe seeing them at a place like Dinosaur Neil's theme park. I think it's just because their superheros even in their free time.

I'm not 100% on any of this, but i'm pretty sure. And i can't wait to see it!:D

*ditto marks!!* lol. Well I hope those who gave great reviews of THE TICK live action are as hardcore fans of the animated Tick as we are. That would reassure me more.

As for FAMILY GUY, I only like the baby so I don't think I fit on either side of the FAMILY GUY battle field here. :)

I'm looking forward to the The Tick, but I'm not sure if it'll do well since it's against Survivor . Which leads me to wonder if Fox wants it to do poorly.

Yep, you are correct there. They were very much the same, but maybe a bit more risque with their humor - lots of sexual tension between the two, and some rather blunt sexual references.

Again, you are correct. Like I said, the premier episode was much like any other episode of the animated show - the "everyday life" aspects were things like Tick and Arthur in their apartment in the morning brushing their teeth. In fact, from what I remember, we get a live action version of Tick destroying Arthur's apartment looking for the hidden superhero equipment, like he did in the cartoon.

And yes, I am a huge fan of the cartoon version of the Tick.

What else is there to say, but...

Spoooooooon!!

I'm praying the easily weirded-out public gives it a chance, but just in case they axe it within three episodes I'll be glued to the set.

I'm thinking alot of the post-Friends audience will move in to watch this show instead of a repeat of Friends. Not sure about survivior. I'd like to see the show get at least 10 million. I also hope FAMILY GUY gets brutally destroyed in the ratings and FOX puts something better there - like SIMPSONS reruns.

Family Guy should come on Sundays at 8:30 and Malcolm should come on Thursdays at 8:00.

Even better, The Family Guy gets the lingering death slot at 7pm on Sundays, while Futurama gets its old 8:30pm timeslot back (right after The Simpsons where it belongs).

Even better, the dang thing just gets cancelled. I thought I'd give it one more try tonight, but the jokes were just so lame and forced that I didn't laugh once.

I missed both last night. I forgot to set the timer on the VCR. Ah, that's my life story! I have to set the thing the same moment I realize something is on that I want to see or I totally forget. :(
