I actually did a topic on this subject a *loooooong* time ago, but since I'm against thread necromancy and I'm lazy, I figured I'd make a new one. Mods, if there's any problem with this, feel free to do whatever you see fit to this thread.

Aniwho, much in the same vein as the 'critically based games that you like' thread, here's a spot where you can talk about the characters you like, that everyone else (seems to) hate/dislike.

Here's my picks, to get things rolling.
----

Kairi from 'Kingdom Hearts'
I will be the first hardcore Kairi fan to admit, she was a bit annoying at times during the game. I tend to look past (but do acknowledge) her flaws, and I see her as a very interesting character, and loveable too. I totally sympathized with her during the ending, and I even got a little teary eyed when she began to cry. :(
What really makes me angry about the Kairi bashing is the leigons of Sora/Riku fans who hate her, simply because she's 'in the way of their OTP'. Bleh, like I care... I honestly can't wait to see what role she has in KH2, and maybe people will begin to like her.

Tidus from 'Final Fantasy X'
Maybe I like him because he's different from Squall and Cloud. Maybe I like him because he's so optimistic in the face of adversity. Or maybe I like him, simply because he's voiced by the guy who did Obi-Wan in the 'Clone Wars' miniseries. :D
Honestly, Tidus gets a bad rep that he doesn't deserve. It seems like, if the lead hero isn't a jerk/angstbag/idiot, then the fangirls won't like him. Tidus just happens to be an unfortunate victim of such idiocy. I like my heroes cheerful/determined/caring/goofy, thanks. Granted, he does have his 'moments', but I love the guy. He still remained strong throughout the events of FFX; and when all was said and done, he got the girl.

Kate Alen, Roger Buster and Dai Goroh from 'F-Zero GX/AX'
When you look at the entire pantheon of F-Zero racers, you see superheroes, creatures, villians, mob bosses, bounty hunters, soldiers and teen pop idols. However, Kate and Roger are most often overlooked because they... well, they're too *plain* compared to the others. But why do I like them? Simple: I like them because they are just that: ordinary. Kate's backstory (well, the American version anyways) interests me, and I like Roger's 'blue collar' attitude to work. Granted, their machines ain't the best, but for me, F-Zero is all about the pilots, and these are two I like.
As for Dai Goroh: he's a spoiled brat. His machine sucks worse than the 'Night Thunder' and 'Blood Hawk' combined. Dai is often the butt of every joke in F-Zero fandom and most people preferred he never exsisted. Heh, I'd *love* to see him in an upcoming game... maybe with his mother as well. ;)

Lucy Liberty, Misaki Haruka/Miss Killer and Lisa Brilliant from 'F-Zero: GP Legend'
Why on earth are these three so hated before the fans can get to know them? I know why: because they replaced Don Genie, Digi-Boy and DaiSanGen, respectivley. Bullcrap, I say. That's just a STUPID reason to hate a character. Besides, Lucy is a total sweetheart, Misaki is so cool and Lisa has potential. Seriously, I think people will do a turnaround after they get to see the anime and game. They deserve a chance, IMO. Esp. Lucy. ^_^

Krystal from 'Star Fox Adventures'
Guh... my blood boils when a Star Fox fan says they hate Krystal because she 'took Fox away from me/Fara Phoenix/replacing Peppy in 'Star Fox 2''. (Fara being a character from the 1993 Nintendo Power SF comic) ... Is that the best excuse they can come up with? granted, she wasn't developed well in SFA (of which I will NEVER forgive Rare for), but c'mon! Like Kairi, I found her cool because she's enigmatic. She stood up to General Scales, which is something Fox never got the chance to do in the game. (Another fault of Rare) I can't wait to see her in action in SF2, even if some people aren't. XP

.... Wow, sorry about that.

You're turn!

Sue from Grandia. I didn't think her eng VA sounded THAT bad, and she wasn't really as annoying as people said (at least she didn't have a crush on the main character). Plus she hit pretty hard in battles, which you would never have expected.

Zidane from FF IX. Already defended in other threads.

Characters of Saga Frontier--Most people hated this game so much they didn't even get to know them. They were pretty interesting, and human too. They weren't goody goody (most of them didn't have to save the world in their quests) but not unlikeable either.

I am totally and madly in LOVE with Carlos Oliveira* (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis). Of the series, he's one of the most hated by many. Many dislike his voice actor. They think that Vincent was all wrong for him. Many said that Carlos lost his accent along the way.

All I got to say is that they're jealous. Well, they're not.

The important thing is, I got a two-for-one.

Hell!! Even Steve Burnside (Resident Evil Code: Veronica) gets more sympathy from fans who hate him!!

I don't think there's anyone else who I love that many hate. I'd have to think about it.

*I wish "Chobits" was real!!

I would have to say Sora. Most people rag on him, favoring Rikku or one of the many FF cameos over him. I really liked him, and found his idealistic, simple outlook on things refreshing (from all the angsty troubled teens that seem to populate games as of late). I find that I have grown to really like younger protagonists (ie. Gon from Hunter X Hunter etc.).

That and Haley Joel Osment is damn endearing as Sora. I wanted to hug him many a time. +_+

I really think Awesome Possum is cool. Awesome Possum Kicks Dr.Machino's Butt got bad reviews and I really like that game. Also,I think Beatrix from FF9 is cool. Is Beatrix hated, though?

Cait Sith - FF VII. Final Fantasy fanatics seemed to have this vendetta against him I've never understood.. I liked him. Fun with two surprise twists in intent and indentity. Not an AMAZING character to play, but fun. He seems to be public enemy number one for FFVII fans...

Tidus - FFX - Annoyed me intially but I really warmed to him by the end. I can't understand the dislike for him either.

Some people might not be able to comprehend this, but I DON'T hate Raiden from MGS2. Sure, he's no badass super stealth virtuoso like Solid Snake, but I prefer Raiden's cartwheel flip over Snake's tumble. As for the sissy stuff, give the kid a break. It was his first actual mission and he was fooled from the beginning by the Colonel. Plus, he was on the verge of a huge world conspiracy- I don't think many people, spies or not, would be able to handle that too well.

Besides, it shows that Hideo Kojima was still able to take risks by placing an unknown character as the hero for the majority of the game. Ya gotta give him props for not just resorting to the "same old same old" technique.

I like the character Kafei from Majora's Mask. He's kinda cool, especially when you get to control him.:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm not sure if people don't like him, but I like Foster from MechAssault. He may seem whiney, but he had some of the best lines in the game.

I like the character Kafei from Majora's Mask. He's kinda cool, especially when you get to control him.:D:D:D:D:D:Di know what you mean. when i first played through majora's mask, i was hoping there was a code or something that'd allow you to use kafei instead of link. but as per usual with all zelda games, no such luck

Raiden. Sure he cried at the start but he toughened up as the game progressed.
