Question about Wonder Woman?

I've always been confused about her origin. Is she a god? Can someone explain?

Basically, the Gods (long ago) decided they needed a human race on earth to keep people believing the them and to prevent humanity from annihalting itself. Some they chose the spirits of women whose lives had been ended before their time (injustly) and made them human. They came to give them a special island to call home (Paradise Island) a duties to perform.

One day, when they felt Ares (the God of War) had really started becoming waaaaay to powerful, they needed one of the Amazons to go out and try to teach the real world (which exists out side of P. I. -think of it as an island that exists in it's own time and place) not to detroy one another in hatred and anger. The Queen of the Amazons have been given a child (the Gods told her to mold an infant out of clay and it became real - Princess Diana) years before and now the child wanted to be the Gods' champion. Diana was forbidden from competiting for that honour, but did anway (disguised), won, and Became Wonder Woman. She left the island and went to "Man's World" to do good. We'll see how the JL show handles this on Nov 17th.
