I saw this thing on the news that claims people only remember the last dream they dreamt before they wake up. However, there are times I can recall more than one dream after I wake up. I was just curious as to who here also can remember more than one dream after they wake up.

Oh right. People have several dreams per night. Well, I can never tell when I'm having different dream, or maybe that's when the setting and "purpose" of the dream has changed (Which it does several times). But yeah, the "last" dream is usually the one most clear.

I wish I could remember more of my dreams... I'm always fascinated with the bizzare things my mind comes up with, on the rare times I actually remember.

I never know what I'm dreaming. It all seems to weird and cloudy. Nothing ever sticks out that I can remember.

Thing is, I remember a few of my dreams right after I wake up, but as the day goes by, I forget them again.

Sometimes I can remember more than one dream. But usually, it is the last one that stays most vivid, although it fades away if I dont think about it. Now that I think about it, I havent remembered any dreams in a long time.

Unless it's something out of the ordinary, I don't tend to try to remember them. For the more bizzare ones, usually if I tell somebody else about it shortly after I wake up, it will stay in my memory a lot longer. For the even more unusual ones, I have to write them down to remember all the details. Then there are some I just want to forget, such as dreams about work. I forced myself awake one time because I was dreaming about customer complaints at work. I was thinking, "I have to deal with this every day! I am NOT dreaming about this!"

That report on the news said that the human mind erases the previous dream when it starts a new one, and they claimed that you will only remember the last dream you dreamt when you wake up. I strongly disagree with that, and from what I've gathered from your responses, I am not the only one who can recall more than one dream. I wonder how they gathered their information?

I've had that before. Well, not the exact same, but a dream about work. Argh.

But remembering two dreams (I didn't even know I dreamt more than one dream)??? Well, I woke up half an hour ago and I don't remember a thing, except for me going to bed. So, I really admire those who can remember.

I find the dreams that I remember the most are the ones that help me solve a problem or give me important artistic ideas. For example I was working on a program for a high school poetry contest. The design came to me in a dream.
Also I think that dreams are just the process that our mind uses to take the days short-termed memories and making them into long-term memories. Because we process so many images a day the mind has a lot of translating to do. That is why we get some really freaky images in our dreams.

If I am going to remember a dream, I have to MAKE myself remember. It's not somethign that comes easy, and takes practice. So if you're trobled over not being able to remember your dreams, sometimes all it takes for me in the morning is to simply lie back down, concentrate on what I was dreaming, and remmeber that way. Closing the eyes again will sometimes help, too. Just be careful not to fall back asleep and be late for work!

I remember the dreams I just dreamt most clearly, but I also often dreams I had during the night - let's take today/night - I was dreaming I was on the Enterprise and the dream was really cool - then later this night I dreamt I was in a warlike zone and then the crew from M*A*S*H were there.
most of the time I can remember dreams and If I wake up I can also make myself fall asleep again and dream on :D

Same here. I made an effort to try to remember my dreams this morning and succeeded somewhat, but then I fell back asleep, and now all I have left is a blurry shape in my memory.

Ahhh. another wonderfully clear science report from the media. Don't get me started...

Anyway, I'm not an expert of this sort of thing, but I can tell you what bits and pieces I remember from the studies done on this.

Usually, you only remember the last dream you had before waking up - that is true. But there are exceptions to any rule, of course.

How much of a dream you remember can depend on just how deeply you sleep - if you're a light sleeper, you may be able to remember a whole series of dreams - you're transfering the subconscious images and thoughts from your dreams directly into your long term memory. But if you're a "normal" sleeper/deep sleeper, those images and thoughts never make it into your long term memory - they just flash by and are gone as quick as they come.

Also, you go through a number of sleep cycles in one night. Depending on how much you come out of the deepest part of the cycle each time, you may remember more than one dream. So, you might be remebering the last dream you had at the end of each cycle.

I usually remember the dreams I've had, though sometimes they are difficult for me to define. I can remember images, but not always why I had them. I often have a feeling that the characters in my dreams were very familiar and close to me, but I have no idea who they were. I studied psychology in college, so trying to interpret my dreams is very interesting for me, yet frustrating. Dreams are often not logical, which would explain why I recently dreamt Bo and Luke Duke were attacking my old grade school by shooting arrows with grenades on them.

Hmmm....We did have a dream interpretaton thread going a little while ago. Maybe we should bump it back up here for things like this? Looks like there is still an interest in it!
