ICv2 reports that DC Comics has announced that they're joining September 11, the previously announced comic benefit project organized by Dark Horse and Chaos! Comics to raise money for the victims of the recent terrorist attack on the United States in New York and Washington DC.
This will bring the project's production to 2 trade paperback volumes, each over 200 pages, which will be shipped in a slipcase in January. Most of the stories included in the 2 volume set will be in color, with the exception of those intended for black & white reproduction.
The content appearing in the two volumes will be noticably different. Volume 1, organized by a team of Dark Horse editors and editor Marie Croall from Chaos, "...is intended to reflect artists' personal responses to the terrorist events, so it won't feature established comic-book characters as a story-telling vehicle," according to Dark Horse.
Eric Drooker will handle cover chores for Volume 1, which features creators Will Eisner, Frank Miller, Paul Chadwick, Mike Mignola, Jim Valentino, Jon Bogdonave, Joe Casey, Joe Chiodo, Dean Motter, Joe Quesada, and many more.
DC will oversee the production of Volume 2, which will include favorite comic characters in the stories, but will also include some non-character driven stories. Alex Ross is the cover artist for Volume 2.
Other companies involved with the project include Wizard, Diamond, and Quebecor. Although the books are planned to ship in January, Diamond Comic Distributors does not have them listed in its most current edition of Previews, which lists the majority of comic-related products shipping that month. As a result, September 11 will first be listed in a Previews update, then re-listed in the January cover date of the publication, which will feature products shipping in March.
